“New, but expensive extras...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Pretty new HI next-door to the new(ish) BBC broadcasting complex in Manchester (sorry, Salford).
The actual hotel is brand new, nice-furnished rooms, decent-speed wifi (2Mb synchronous speed for free, but cr*p access system which means you can't use it on your phone etc and laptop at the same time).. Shower/bath seems to be running a decent volume and temperature of hot water.
Negatives are the auto-charging-in-room bar which "proudly" boasts "We charge you automatically if you even think about looking at anything" - well not quite but you get the drift. The big multi-story car-park next door is okay, but is a £6.50 supplement on top of your room charge (or £15 if you don't know to ask for the discount rate and get you card validated in advance). Lifts are also very slow: they take longer to more between 3 or 4 floors than lifts in Dubai/HongKong/Rio take to move between 30/40 floors: so inevitably they can't cope with the morning rush. My bed was also somewhat soggy: Premier Inn do far better. The in-room AC (I think) controls are analogue, so very hard to work out what you have set, and even on the coldest setting insist on blowing hot air much of the time.
I was booked in on a room-only rate, and was a little surprised on check-in not to be offered breakfast. Until I found out what they wanted to charge.... the receptionists are clearly embarrassed about it. That was until I saw the restaurant menu prices.. Fortunately there are plenty of more reasonably-priced alternatives within walking distance for those whose companies don't have the BBC's budget or (heaven forbids!) have to pay for it themselves.
I conclude that this is a hotel which relies from staff visiting the publicly-funded BBC next door. For the sake of the taxpayer (you and me!) I I hope they get a better deal that I did...

This hotel is fairly new and therefore the fittings and decoration are all still bright and modern. But anyone who stays at a Holiday Inn regularly might be surprised at the minimalist approach to the rooms. The only storage was a small wardrobe, which I couldn't find at first as it was behind the open bathroom door and a bedside cabinet size chest of drawers. I was staying three nights and had it been any longer, would have needed to leave my clothes in a suitcase. My bed was hard and reminded me of a much more basic hotel.
The bathroom is small, no soap and few towels, only dispensers for shower gel and hand wash. It is more like a Holiday Inn Express really. The shower water pressure was very poor.
The breakfast was okay but the fried food fairly greasy and it was make it yourself tea/coffee.
The area around the hotel is fairly desolate, except the venue is very convenient for the BBC, as it's adjacent to the studios, and the Lowry Theatre. But for me, that is the only reason to return to this rather disappointing hotel.

Room Tip: Everywhere is pretty quiet as the hotel is not near a main road.

We stayed at this hotel due to bgt, we wanted to be near the lowry theatre which it was jus across the road so it was perfect. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very pleasant. The only downside was food quite expensive. Would definitely stay there again without a doubt, would recommend this hotel!

I overnighted here on a trip to the football. Ideal location , friendly helpful staff , good food and very comfortable cosy room. I thought this was excellent value for money and will be staying here on my next trip.

Overall a really pleasant experience at this hotel. The check-in staff were lovely, as were the staff at breakfast the next day. Being a brand new hotel the rooms are in great shape, but even that aside, they're well equipped and comfortable. The only thing I would say isn't great about the hotel is the breakfast. It's a buffet and it's only ok, especially considering the price.

An outstanding Holiday Inn. Quite contemporary, but very comfortable. A new build that is extremely well run, the manager has a strong presence, and is very proactive, ensuring that the staff work as ateam.
The food is excellent, especially the lounge menu and the staff are all very friendly.

Room Tip: i recommend a high floor to enjoy the great views.

Chad and Andrea will welcome you well. The hotel is in a great location if you don't want to be right in the middle of Manchester. The hotel is clean, smart and the views are great especially at night.
