“Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We stayed in the superior deluxe room as a family of 2 adults and 2 young children. The room is amazing, beautiful, luxurious and.... It overlooks stunning castle and cathedral grounds. The bed is so big that it can accommodate 4 adults comfortably. The room can accommodate 2 extra little beds for the children. Breakfast is excellent. I am not a waffle person, but i had 2 servings that morning. Staff are friendly and informative. A great castle experience!

We visited to have a cream tea as I had vouchers from Buy a Gift. The welcome was warm and we were shown to a nice spot in the study. I was dissapointed that different teas weren't on offer and I had to request sandwiches as they hadn't checked what offer my voucher related to and assumed the cheaper option. That said this was sorted and extra cream and jam on request. The quality of cakes, scones etc was good and tasty. I would recommend this treat and the castle enchanting with lovely gardens.

My family and I recently stayed at the castle and simply did not want to leave. The staff there is amazing, the accommodations were perfect, the food was unbelievable, and the whole experience was truly memorable.

We were married at the castle on the 2nd of August 2013 and stayed in the Henry VIII suite for two nights. The experience was magical and wonderful. The suite was stunning, with the magnificent and extremely comfortable, four poster and the view of the gardens from our bay window particular highlights. The lounge and library areas are welcoming and very comfortable whether it's for morning coffee, afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks (and we've tried them all!). The team at the hotel were incredibly friendly and accommodating, our every wish fulfilled cheerfully and efficiently. They operate as a very professional, friendly and very happy family. The meals in the hotel and our wedding breakfast were of the highest culinary standard, enjoyed by 2 and 84 year olds equally! We cannot recommend the Castle and its staff highly enough whether you are celebrating in style or just fancy a delicious meal in the lovely octagonal dining room. If you can't decide what to have for pudding they thoughtfully provide a taster plate of all of their desserts. We will be regulars from now on.

Stayed here for two nights for a mini honeymoon and we are very happy with our choice. It was quite expensive but well worth it. We had the Woodstock room which is huge with a lovely four poster bed. The room is in the turret being accessed by spiral stairs and it had stone walls and a lovely fire place with many features in keeping with the age of the castle (will add some photos). The service from the staff was very good with nothing being too much trouble. The food was delicious. Not much to do on site other than archery and walk around the gardens but Thornbury is only 2 minutes away in a car and its also close to Bath or Bristol. Overall a perfect trip and we will definitely return.

For a truly unique hotel experience then Thornbury Castle is the place to stay - A hotel that is steeped in history, beautiful to look at and provides extremely comfortable/luxurious rooms.

Each room is different and styled individually. My wife and I stayed in the 'Buckingham' room which was comfortable and decorated tastefully and in keeping with a 500+ year old building.

We stayed on the top floor in one of the adjacent buildings and had a great view of the gardens. Surprisingly the room was equipped with a good wi-fi signal which was an added bonus.

Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of cereals, breads, croissants, juices, etc., and also the full English Breakfast.

Thornbury town/village is a 10 minute walk from the hotel so if you fancy a Chinese, Indian, Thai, Italian or Fish and Chips, there are other options for an evening meal.

If you look around, you can get some good deals - We paid £130 for a classic room which I think is pretty reasonable.
