I have never written a review before, but as I am just booking a table for my parent’s 25th wedding anniversary at Thornbury Castle, I thought I would share my experience with you.
For our year anniversary, my boyfriend booked a week of surprises, and going to Thornbury Castle was one of them.
As we drew up to the Castle it was just magical, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it looked, and the little lights that lit the castle up only added to its beauty.
When we arrived at reception, we were greeted by some very smartly dressed gentleman who took our coats and wished us a happy anniversary with big genuine smiles, which really did make me smile also. At first I really didn’t know what to expect as the venue is very posh, and the vast majority of people there were extremely upper class, and to be honest didn’t seem very fazed by the fact they were in such a beautiful place. It seemed a normality for them, but me being a 21 year old working woman, wining and dining in a castle is not exactly an every day occurrence! After my first view of diners around me (and if I’m honest how rude and snooty they all were) I really wondered what my experience would in tale.
However, it seemed that the staff there were a completely different story. They were brilliant, and made us feel absolutely fantastic. They couldn’t do more for us, and I can not even describe how friendly they were and special they made that evening for us. I will always remember our waiter, he was Italian like my partner and he really enjoyed talking to him(he even showed us a photo of his daughter, I think it maybe made a refreshing change for him to speak to normal people!) He was just a really genuinely nice man who was fantastic at his job.
The food…well it was the nicest I have ever tasted in my life. The presentation was perfect down to the last detail. I even took photos of each plate I had…people were looking at me probably thinking what a weirdo, but I really didn’t care! It was just too good to be true!
At the end of the meal we were brought out a plate with ‘Happy Anniversary’ written in melted chocolate on it with home made chocolates. It just topped off the whole evening.
At the end of the night as we were leaving, one of the staff showed me some fancy dress crowns and capes they had and we both put it on taking photos! We were all laughing so much and it just made me see that the staff there really do want to make your evening special and one to remember.
So all in all it was perfect. Classy, friendly and funny…I would love to go there for every anniversary if I could!
The only down side for me was the other diners. It made me angry how ungrateful and rude they were to the staff (the dinning room is smaller so you can pretty much hear some peoples comments. But I have to say I did have a giggle at some points about how ridiculous they were!). But none the less, the staff were so professional and there positivity just glowed which I admire.
So as I said I am actually booking for my parents to go this weekend so I can pay for them to experience what I did, and I know they will love it!
I hope this review has been helpful!!
