This place is a real rip-off. They know they have a captured market - I imagine most guests are there to attend one-off events at Clearwell Castle, so aren't likely to return - and they certainly exploit it. My single room was old-fashioned, dirty and uncomfortable and the breakfast that some my friends ordered (I didn't bother having been put off by the dirty rooms) took 45 minutes to arrive. The bed was really flimsy, with ridiculously protruding springs. The furniture was old, mismatched and in a poor state. The carpet was really grotty and all the surfaces were mucky. The bathroom was too - lots of black mould and horrible stains. The water was off when we got back from the wedding at about midnight and didn't come back on until 9am the next day. Not necessarily their fault (?) but the managers' attitude was very flippant and dismissive and it summed up their attitude to their guests generally. Despite the fact that this place is so close to the castle, I would strongly recommend that you don't stay there - it is a terrible place and to add insult to injury, they charge a fortune. And I would imagine most people don't complain because they've just had a nice time at the Castle and don't want to spoil it. Get a taxi to another hotel, take a tent, sleep in your car - anything but stay here!
