Not sure if everyone else has noticed, but Premier Inns are now no longer competing at the bottom of the market. Whilst there is no inherent reason why they should, and there's a lot to be said about a strong brand where you know what you're going to get,for me, they need to find some way of reducing the "accommodation by numbers" impression they give.
This one, like most others, is clean, handy, not excessively expensive and staffed by people who have obviously been trained well. Unfortunately, you're never going to come away thinking that you want to go back. Staying there is a necessity, not a pleasure. The problem they, is that the market is changing, and there's a lot of places out there that can offer everything PI do, but with....a bit of heart.
I know that's a bit cerebral, and probably wont help anyone make a decision whether or not to book, but it's the feeling I get every time I stay at one.
Putting that aside, this place is absolutely fine. No complaints, and, as usual, the on site pub/restaurant does the same mix of reliable/simple food. Again, nothing to provoke a meaningful complaint, but nothing to get the taste buds genuinely excited.
