It beggars belief that the AA have rated this establishment 4 star - it affords the same level of comfort as a Travelodge but lacks their customer service ....
Check in went well - it was all downhill from there.
Disinterested staff - no tour or even direction to facilities, one tiny washed out cardboard like towel (which you need to keep hold of as unlike most spas there aren't spares int eh changing rooms if you arrive after 10am), filthy changing rooms (dirt, tissues, paper and even pant liners on floor from the moment we arrived until we left for the evening), fixtures hanging off walls, dark and dingy rooms, huge clumps of hair, grime, caked on shower gels / conditioners in the shower cubicle. Steam room not working, pool surrounded by filthy loungers (white with smears of brown and green, cushions with stains and water marks) and the best part a Jacuzzi so laden with chemicals it bleaches your swimsuit and has a stench that you can still detect 3 showers later (during my massage the therapist noticed that I had some dry / irritated patches on my leg, when I replied that I had been in the Jacuzzi she just replied 'oh' as if it happens all the time)
Spa treatments are ok, very pricey however. Therapists friendly, a little worrying that there are no certificates visible on the walls as you might see in a normal spa detailing therapists qualifications, indeed it would seem that some therapists do not hold qualifications.....
Dated, drafty windows, TV with only 4 channels that turns itself off randomly (you have to go through a complicated menu every time you turn it back on), dated, chipped and grubby bathroom, old scruffy towels, only minimal toiletries (one bottle of body lotion for a twin room) very usual for a 4 star.
Souless and empty. Food extortionately priced, starter cold so sent back, people on next table had uncooked chicken (they were the only other diners), food thrown on plates in an odd fashion, some very odd food combinations (cheese in pastry on wilted spinach topped with grated hard boiled egg?), had to top own wine up (not usual practice in 4 star hotels), barman didn't know what Port was.
Breakfast (I think we may have been the only guests), bland, burnt on the outside but uncooked in the middle croissants, tinned fruit, no serving utensils, food left in warmers going dry and hard, lukewarm weak coffee, watery lukewarm baked beans.
Staff congregate to discuss personal lives - amusing for customers but perhaps not appropriate for guests!
All in all a poor experience, I wouldn't return as its no more than a over chlorinated pool with a few treatment rooms.
I have read a lot of the reviews on here and the responses from the Greenwood management and can only suggest that if the Manager and Director want to make a success of their venue they perhaps accept some of the points reviewers make and put positive plans into action. Perhaps a visit to an award winning spa (Titanic in Huddersfield?) would give them some clues as to how things can really be done ?
