“Very pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

The staff here are all very friendly. The accommodation was very clean, a good size (we had a double room with an ensuite shower room) and almost completely soundproof. We didn't hear a thing from the adjoining accommodation; I just got woken up by the birds singing early in the morning! The bath towels are actually people sized and I was very grateful of the shower gel provided as I'd forgotten mine!
My husband and I both have special dietary requirements and we were offered soya milk and gluten free bread to meet our needs. The only thing that would have been the "icing on the cake" would be if the complimentary biscuits in our room and the breakfast sausages were wheat-free but this is really minor.
We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

We have just come back from a stay at Homelye Farm. We rarely stay at B@B accommodation but the reviews were great, so we thought we'd give it a try. We went with friends and were amazed at the really high standard of accommodation. The courtyard rooms were well equipped, spotlessly clean (the bed linen would have graced a 5 star hotel). The welcome was great. Easy to find, easy parking. Great breakfasts. We would definitely recommend this venue to couples or families with children. For the price, I don't think this Farm can be beaten. Well done to the owners for maintaining such high standards at such a reasonable price.

We have stayed here three times now, once in 2011 and twice in 2013. Every single time we have been welcomed like family and spoilt rotten. We found out about Homelye from the tour director of a tour we were undertaking who picks up and drops off from there.
Last year during our 2nd stay I may have gone a little haywire in the antique stores and needed to send stuff home. On enquiring where the post office was - I got asked what I needed, and a box, and more bubble wrap then I knew what to do with was produced, along with tape and scissors and a offer to help.
Its the little things - like remembering after 2 years that my Mum has a bacon sandwich for breakfast addiction and asking her the first day we got there "do you want your usual?". The hosts are always happy, smiling and open with information about the local area, their connection to it, and the little out of the way places that only locals know about.
If you dont drive there is a bus at the end of the street which goes into Braintree, and you can then catch buses to Colchester and other places. This is now my default out of London accomadation, and I hope it never changes.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely.

We went to Essex last week for a friends Wedding. On searching for accommodation in a reasonable price range we were very disappointed with what was available, the normal travel Inns and Premier's really hold no appeal for us and guest houses as a rule don't offer us some space away from it all. Homelye Farm Courtyards offered the best of both worlds. Very reasonable price and our own space !
On arrival we were delighted with the setting, a lovely farm, all immaculately tidy with a tranquil feel. Tracy was there to meet us, check us in and show us to our room. Absolutely Perfect ! An old stable courtyard with the stables converted into very smart rooms with large ensuite bathroom. All the rooms have stable nameplates on them which is a nice touch. We could park right outside the door which made moving bags easy. Beautifully decorated and carpeted, with double glazing and heating, with matching pine furniture , comfy bed and white bedding, excellent plentiful hospitality tray, and lots of little extra's, sewing kit, cooton wool and buds, etc, everything you might need. Nice spacious bathroom with lots of nice white towels. Such a pleasure to walk into such a welcoming and spotlessly clean room.
We had our key to come and go as we pleased, and couldnt wait to get back there after the wedding. After a great nights sleep, we took our wicker chairs outside our room for our early morning tea, and took delight in the morning farm atmosphere, birds singing and lambs calling, it was bliss. The Granary next for breakfast, and again, a real treat ! cereals, fresh berries, juice, and then the Farmers Breakfast, huge full english. Delicious, a great set up for the day.
Nothing was too much trouble here, finding a last minute room for an extra couple with us, then setting up a table so 6 of us could all have breakfast together.
We were very impressed by every aspect and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, wish we had booked for a couple more nights. Well Done Neil and Tracy, for a job well done, providing Excellent accommodation, and a wonderful family atmosphere, Thankyou for your warm hospitality, we cannot wait to come and stay again. When can we move in ... pleeeezzee !!!! Sally and Damone from Surrey

Room Tip: No Tips !! All Excellent, though we had Bonnie's stable, in the corner which was lovely

I had to hang around for about 15 mins before anyone was visible to check in with! when she arrived, there was no apology given - just an assumption that I was very lucky to have got there in the first place, and how fortunate i was to be staying there! Once checked in it was ok. Thin walls and I heard every move of the people in the adjacent bedroom(!!) Breakfast was ok... nothing special... a shame I had to ask for the croissant to be heated up- it had obviously been in the fridge all night.
