We booked a room in advance, arrived at the hotel, only to be told that the only room they have got has no lights. The staff reassured us that there was no other rooms available in the entire hotel. We stuck with it and see if the room with no lights was workable, but it wasn't.
After insisting that we cannot possibly stay in a room in complete darkness, the hotel staff suddenly managed to find another room (after lying to us that there wasn't another one) which was a smoking room. After explaining that my husband has asthma, they then claim to give us an 'upgraded' room, which was clearly not an upgrade as it was next door to the pitch black room.
We then went for dinner at the restaurant, but found that the a la carte menu which costs £20 has very limited choice. The plates were extremely hot, but the waiter did not give us any warning. It was only after getting our fingers burned that the waiter then said 'by the way, the plates are hot'.
The food was not only of low quality, clearly a microwave meal, but was also overly salty. We therefore removed the optional service charge, but the waiter decided to add it on anyway. We only discovered that upon leaving. This is not right.
The lift made thundering noises and we do not feel safe using it and the stairs smelled of sick.
I am terribly disappointed to say, having been a customer of holiday inn for some years, I do not wish to ever stay with this hotel ever again. I hope they take these comments seriously.
