We are Braintree residents, but chose to stay a couple of nights at the White Hart, to join my family who were visiting for our wedding. Our little house could not have taken the strain of the family numbers.
I am speaking for my entire family when I say that the White Hart delivered incredible service, showed incredible patience with the oldies and managed to serve us very palatable food on the Friday evening, even when there was 150 people dining in, on a Christmas party.
For the wedding on the Saturday, the wedding reception was at a very well known local gastro pub, but the general consensus was that we couldn't wait to get back to the White Hart, to enjoy the excellent service on offer. We were back in the White Hart by 9pm and the party continued.
Both breakfasts were excellent and the stay was very relaxed. The same hard working staff at breakfast were the same hard working staff in the evening and there wasn't a moan out of any of them. What was very apparent was the way several of the regular staff took ownership of our impression of the establishment. It mattered to them what we thought, despite their junior positions. It was lovely to see.
As for the building, the refurb has improved hugely on the former "tired" building. There are a few teething problems e.g. our dodgy towel rail in room 31, but we were very impressed with the changes that have occurred. This hotel has been transformed.
We returned last night for some food and drinks, whilst still in honeymoon mode. Once again, the staff and service were exceptional and the food was very good indeed.
At £60 for a family room with a big hearty breakfast included, how could anybody complain? The bar prices are very competitive with the local pubs and on many occasions, my Guinness was brought to my table, rather than rush the pouring of it. A touch of class.
In summary, we will be back for food and drinks regularly and when the family descends upon us, there is only one place they will be staying.

We are so pleased that you and your party enjoyed your stay with us last weekend. Your comments are very kind and the whole team will be delighted that you have taken the time and trouble to write a review. We are dealing with the teething problems that always crop up with a recently refurbished building, and we are very happy with the reaction of our guests to the changes we have made. We look forward to welcoming you back soon
