“Top place in Braintree”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Superb food. Pleasant experience all round. Menu variety. Well presented. Not cheap but not expensive at all. For the food standard I'd actually say it is cheap. Try this place disappointment is not an issue. Bream is to die for !

“Good but they should lower their prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

I went there with my family and I have to say first of all that the waitress was very helpful and kind. All the food was nicely presented however the pasta looked and tasted a little cheap and there was too much cheese sauce. Having said this however overall it tasted nice as well as the dessert, however it was advertised to have meringue in it but it didn't. Also nice décor, tables nicely laid out. Good and would return but they have to lower their price to attract more customers.

“Watch the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Despite having eaten here many, many times their pricing still annoys. I eat out most days and at least 3 times a week in the West End of London. La Piazza charges equal that of similar Italian restaurants as in London and yet neither the food or service match those of London. As there is no competition in the town they are charging to much.

“Authentic Italian - Brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Arrived at La Piazza quite early for lunch about 12.30pm - so it was quite quiet in the restaurant so I chatted with the Italian waitress called Valeria about the restaurant, the food and Italy.

She recommended the sea bream on the specials board as it had arrived fresh that morning from Billingsgate market. The fish was baked and served with white wine and herbs but I asked if I could have spicy tomato sauce instead. She said it should be no problem. She checked with the head chef who said he could make a traditional Sicilian sauce (a family recipe).

It sounded very good and I asked whether it could be served filleted (which was no problem) - as I don't like to see the the fish head. The plate arrived with a selected of vegetables and sauteed potatoes which accompanied the fish well. The sauce was spicy with cherry tomatoes, capers, olives and other ingredients.

I learnt, from the waitress, that most of the staff there are from southern Italy as the restaurant owners have family and friends in that region. Most of the food comes from the markets in London and is selected by the chef himself, some comes from Italian suppliers and some special items are flown in by Italian family or friends.

The main course was great and the wine list was extensive - I choose a bottle of Italian white (Orvieto) to accompany which was excellent.

Several of the desserts sounded good, but after consideration, I choose the Nutella Cheesecake which was perfect, well presented and definitely homemade.

Overall, a great lunch - excellent food, wine and great friendly service (and great coffee) - for me the perfect Italian meal

“Amazing Italian Restaurant - The best in Braintree by far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Have taken guests to La Piazza a few times now and each visit has been good. Friendly staff and amazing food each time. The care and attention that the chef takes to ensure the quality of the ingredients and range of food on offer is unprecedented. This last time I chose Sea Bass from their specials board which was very tasty. It's nice to find somewhere which serves good food and isn't a chain restaurant.
