“New Owners serving great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We went to the Red Lion last weekend and tried the food as we heard good feedback. Gavin the new landlord is also the chef, and a very good one at that.We both had the Lion burger which was superb, and i must agree with previous reviewer who said the chips were the best they have tasted. Have been drinking in Red Lion on and off for a few years now, and it is often known as the Dead Lion because of its lack of atmosphere. but the other night the place was rocking. Gavin and his team seem very keen, and if they keep serving food like we tasted the other night.then they should have continued success.Good luck to them, and hope they keep up the good work.

“New Owners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

My partner and I wanted somewhere to eat after walking our dog on the downs. I had already looked the pubs web site up and it looked great. When we got there the eating area was fairly busy so we thought that this was a good sign. We both ordered the Steak and Mushroom pie with mash and veg. The Landlady told us that they had only been in the pub two weeks.

The food was presented very well and everything was great. If I had to make a negative comment it would be that the pastry was uncooked underneath and wasnt fantastic(although I liked the pastry on top but my partner who is not a pastry fan wasn't as keen) but everything else was good pub food. The pub is tired and the toilets not too good but not really a fair comment as they are new owners/landlords and they were friendly and they have got plans to decorate etc.
So good luck for the future and we will definately come back as the food that was coming out for others looked very good too. The menu choice was very good considering they have only been there for a few weeks.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

Went for lunch on a Saturday - very impressed. Cod and chips the best I have tasted - our waiter told us it was fresh from the morning and it certainly tasted so. Good value, great service. Food served all day and a large sheltered beer garden to boot.

Highly recommended!

“Fantastic food & service on every visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

We live lical to the Red Lion and since Caroline and Alan took over it has become a place we love spending time.

If we want to eat out, we head there every time. We have been to 'carvery' places before only to be put off my mass produced vegetables and people with plates piled high like they have never eaten before! Horrid! Not our thing at all. At the Red Lion the focus is on quality! Locally produced ingrediants made into a meal by someone passionate about food and good service.

We often take our very small children, we are always welcomed like one of the family. Our eldest, 3 years old, is always given a home made meal with vegetables. My kids will only eat vegetables at the Red Lion- what does that tell you!

Overall, the Red Lion has been transformed by Caroline & Alan and we think its really quite special!

Def worth a visit

“Traditional Local pub/restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

I frequent the lion often. Alan and Caroline work tirelessly to provide a relaxing atmosphere with good food at an affordable price. The beer is never less than perfect and Alan has snatched a pint out of my hand that he had looked at it from six feet away and decided was not up to standard....headed off down to the cellar and changed the barrel...I had not even thought about not drinking it...It was fine but Alan said it looked cloudy...Never had a bad pint or meal at the lion since alan and caroline took over.. :-)
