“Very nice indeed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Everything was very lovely.
The breakfast was very nice, and the room was extremely quiet. The drain was a bit blocked in the bath/shower, but everybody has those sorts of problems now and again.
Others have talked about the getting back in time, but isn't the main reason we stay above a pub so that we don't have far to go?

Room Tip: The one at the back. Extremely quiet.

This is a fantastic pub which has become so through the hard work and attention to détail from it's présent owners.
Only one thing to grumble about if you want and that's the général portion size for fish and chips is wasteful.Way too big, unecessarily too big perhaps that's the size that the fish comes out of the box but it's too big ,with too many chips. The mushy peas were the right size d' portion .
I wont eat fish and chips again here unless I have starved myself for at least twenty four hours before. I am a big eater but the fish and chips battered me!

This is a delightful C16 pub restaurant which provides a very good atmosphere, good service and very good food. Would recommend. The menu should suit most people and is very varied with a good choice of starters, main course and desserts, there is even a children's menu.

As a local . I live 3 doors away . Where else to celebrate 5 decades than my local . Matthew and Gillian did me proud . It was a balmy summers evening when 90 guests descended and mixed seamlessly with locals . The food was superb. A traditional English buffet as I requested with joints of beef gammon and salmon and home made salads . Pimms on tap . a great band blending in to the ambience . ( more tea vicar ... very good entertainment ) They bravely lit a 50 candle birthday cake and as mum said "cut her fruit cake to perfection " so everyone got a piece. My relatives took over the 3 rooms upstairs . such a lovely friendly pub . I also use it for business people coming to stay . So much nicer than london . They have brought the pub to life in the 2 years they have been here . Fiona

Room Tip: It's clean and newly refurbished and honest value . It's not trying to be boutique hotel and...

We could not recommend this place more highly. My husband and I stayed here for a night during a cycle ride from Belgium to UK and really enjoyed our stay. We booked back in April through Travel Republic - a very hassle-free booking. We were staying on the Sunday night of the August Bank Holiday and didn't arrive until 9pm, but we couldn't have had a more friendly and warm welcome from the owners. Having got into our room, we went down to have a drink in the bar and were very pleased we did. There was a small group of locals enjoying a drink and we were made to feel very welcome and a part of the fun atmosphere!
We explained that we would be leaving early in the morning and they were more than happy to provide a breakfast for us, that we could help ourselves to in the morning.
Our room was an ensuite double, decorated beautifully, very comfortable and spacious.
Our lasting impression is that nothing was too much trouble for this lovely little pub and we would happily stay there again if we were in the area.

The c16th Old Vine is situated in a small village on the Kent/East Sussex Border and ideally suited as a base for visiting many nearby National trust properties. It is a perfect pub - warm welcome - old beams - log fire - good range of beers and wines - wide menu for both snacks and restaurant. Comfortable accommodation - spacious bedroom and ensuite bath. We stayed only for a couple of nights but would happily return. Please remember that the pub is closed between 3pm and 6pm as this is the only opportunity the landlord/lady have for time off. If you arrive before 6pm try visiting the Tea Rooms in nearby Wadhust - tea pot sign hanging outside - another warm welcome here.

We spent five nights at The Old Vine and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms, which were redone in 2012, are immaculate. The hospitality couldn't be faulted either, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were cooked to order and more than generous. We have no hesitation in recommending The Old Vine, and look forward to future visits. Thank you Gillian, Matthew and staff.
