“Poorly run - but has so much potential”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011 via mobile

Stayed here last week (aug 2011) and thought our bedroom was ok - perhaps a little noisy due to the road outside .. It was fairly hot when we stayed and thought we would eat outside - but there were too many smokers for this to be poss. So we went to the Mark Cross in up the road - very good food and didn't get to eat here. Did learn that the landlord was leaving by someone at the bar - he said they had not been successful and wanted to move on - seemed to account for the lifeless in the place - shame as we rather liked the pub.

This was booked as a birthday treat and was a really relaxing weekend. The rooms were spotless and the food was excellent. Breakfast was enormous!! Altogether an ideal place and we will definitely go back.

This hotel provides a very comfortable stay , with good friendly service from the excellent Hotel manager who pandered to our every need. It provides a typical country Pub area which is a very pleasent place for a quiet drink. Most enjoyble of all is the food provided in the restaurant and the superb breakfast in the morning. All in all a great place to spend a few days.

The inn is now owned and run by twin brothers who were excellent hosts for our stay whilst visiting the area. The room we had was very clean and comfatable, and even has a four poster bed. The meals served both in the bar and restuarant were of the highest level, not sure where they have found the chef but first rate.
We would not hesitate in recommending this inn and look forward to visiting it again very soon.

We live in walking distance and made our first wander along the back lane to have Sunday lunch yesterday. The welcome was charming (the landlord introduced himself by name and shook hands - a good start for a village pub!). The Sunday menu was simple and traditional, but the brie starter was anything but ordinary. Likewise the roast dinner - perfectly cooked fresh veg for a village pub Sunday Roast?! oh yes :-) the wine list offered some interesting options and our super bottle of Graves 2002 didn't disappoint. It really just needs to be chock full of locals nattering to add the finishing touch to this plainly and elegantly restored old inn. Just what the village has needed for a long time, well done Richard, so glad you chose Wadhurst. See you again very soon.

We had travelled from Southhampton and sightseeing on the way and left it quite late to get a room. The welcome we received from the two owners was very good and we could get in for bed and breakfast. The owners had not been in the place very long. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very well cooked and served and we left feeling replete and ready for another day .
