Very remiss of us not to thank ou before today BUT THANK YOU for a wonderful evening - surprise 60th birthday party. You and our team run a slick operation that many an establishment could (or should) learn from. Fabulous food, great company, glorious rooms and good breakfast too! See you soon

Room Tip: Room 5 ..go on treat yourselves!

A group of us, had a meal in the restaurant, restaurant/bar staff not friendly, didnt have the wine we wanted, food disappointing, steak not cooked as wanted and we all had different, but no one was very happy with their meals. Also there were too many children in the bar wouldnt recommend this pub.

Mayfield is a beautiful, old village with this pub at its centre. We ate in the bar, although I have eaten in the restaurant before, as it was a Thursday and the bar had a really lively yet cosy atmosphere.
The staff were really nice, and the food was delicious - we had pate to start, and goose, and for mains we had lamb, and guinea fowl - all was great.
It's quite expensive if you are just after your standard 'bar food' but you don't mind as you're in such a nice atmosphere and having really good quality food.
You could easily pop in just for a mid-week drink as well, as the bar had a really good feeling of not being segregated. On previous experiences, the restaurant for lunch has been lovely too.
The building really makes it a special experience as well.

We tend to eat in the bar for the atmosphere and the open fire and the food never fails to impress us, if you want great pub food then you cant go wrong with the Middlehouse. We will happily drive 20mins (and past many many other pubs/rests) to have a sunday roast dinner here. We tend to go around 4pm as its a little easier to get a table in the bar. Just wish this was our local!

And in our opinion the staff have always been fantastic.

Very disappointed. Rude, Rude, Rude curly haired female member of staff. Made to feel 'eat up and get out' on Mother's Day.
They offered a 7pm sitting. We were the only ones.
I wonder, if the restaurant had been full, they would have been setting up for breakfast, smashing glasses under my husbands chair and generally being intrusive and disrespectful to our privacy, for the entire meal. I DOUBT IT, we were clearly not important enough.
Have to say the food was very mediocre, the Eton Mess was inedible (tasted shop bought powdery plastic) and the staff, the rude, rude curly haired female member of staff in particular, was all very unsatisfactory.
Shan't be going back there for a very long time.
£120 for mediocre food and rude service. Not good enough, left feeling very bitter about this experience.
