“A pleasant weekend away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

I booked this hotel as we were due a visit to my Mum in law, but she had been booked
in for an operation, so we didn't want to stay with her. Our Son and his wife also chose this weekend to visit, so we booked them in too, and were pleasantly surprised to find that the hotel was dog friendly, so they could bring their lovely collie. We had eaten at the hotel before, twice for lunch.
The lady who took the booking seemed a little uncertain, but assured me the rooms were booked. When we arrived there was a slight hiccup over the number of nights booked, but there was no real problem. The room was lovely, very clean, everything we needed, and an enormous ensuite.
The breakfast was very generous, the staff were helpful. In some places you get one rasher of bacon and one slice of tomato, but not here. We had booked dinner that evening, and were very pleased with the meal. There is a lot of choice, not just the 'posh fish and chips' which seems to have been referred to on here. The only complaint was from Mum in law who couldn't read the menu as she has poor eyesight, and is not used to dining by candlelight.
We also had Sunday lunch here, this is a very acceptable carvery, and is extremely popular. again the food was generous, I struggled to finish my main course.
Overall it was a very pleasant weekend, but we did find the hotel a little bit too warm.

I made the mistake of eating at The Cooden Beach Hotel - avoid the restaurant at all costs as it is grossly overpriced (that's an understatement).

This hotel is charging appalling rip-off prices for its food, i would avoid eating here at all costs as it will quite simply leaving you speechless for the prices they are charging even for a plate of fish and chips. At the Cooden Beach a plate of fish, chips and peas will set you back nearly £20!!!

I wouldn't expect to pay this in London let alone a shabby backwater hotel near Bexhill. Do your self a favour and save your hard earned money and take a walk to the local fish and chip shop instead - the quality, taste and price is 100% better at the local chippy.

Insultingly overpriced, i was not the only one who was complaining on this visit - says it all.

Thank you very much for your comments and for bringing this to our attention, we have now undergone a thorough review of the items on our menu and their prices and have now removed the Posh Fish and Chips from the TDH Menu, we are now offering this as a special dish in the restaurant at the price of £11.50 which is the same price as the local pub.

Stayed here Friday night hotel staff very friendly and helpful and the facilities in the public areas was pretty good but do not feel that the hotel rooms warrant the price that is charged. Very small rooms - bed only standard double and not very comfortable where details say most rooms have king size - shower could not stand up in properly and I am not very tall. They are charging rates for a four/five star hotel.

My husband and I have just celebrated our marriage with a wedding reception at the Cooden Beach. We would like to thank Jacqui and Jenny for their assistance as our wedding planners. Jenny and Jacqui could not have been more helpful. They both certainly very reassuring during the planning stage to a nervouse bride-to-be!

The food was gorgeous, we received excellent service and we had a fantastic day. The team at the Cooden Beach could not have been more helpful. We would also like to thank our lovely 'toast master', also from the hotel, I am sorry but his name escapes me.

Also a big thank you to Karen Austin our decorator. She made the room look stunning with her attention to detail. Karen did us proud, it looked so pretty when it got dark with all the fairy lights! We loved the chair covers and the pretty purple bows and decorations.

Thank you all for making our big day so special.

Emily and Andy Gooch x

Stayed again this week - in business. Restaurant still very disorganised. 3 staff on duty - still took 20 mins to get a coffee and place an order - but only 3 tables occupied!

This hotel has PLENTY of staff - but no GOOD management input and oversight.

I have often frequented the hotel and had afternoon tea in the gardens during the summer which has been excellent.
On this occasion I dined in the restaurant and we had 'posh fish and chips', our waitress was great but the meal was grossly overpriced at just a shade under £18 each.

There were no prices on the menu so
Maybe we should have known better...however I couldn't believe the price when we got the bill so i questioned the amount. Bearing in mind this is a 3 star hotel in cooden not London or Brighton which astonishingly is asking 4/5 star prices.
For what was a mediocre meal.
We've eaten at Jamie olivers and various other restaurants in London and Brighton where we've had a much better meal and paid considerably less.

In fact I will go as far as to say it was offensively and grossly overpriced. We like to support local restaurants but we will not be returning.
