I have just returned from my second visit to The Old Manse and can honestly say it was as perfect as the first. IMy partner and I absolutely adore everything about this superb B+B. When we originally Googled 'Luxury Accomodation on the South Coast' the web site for this beautiful house stood head and shoulders above the rest. You could tell instantly that everything oozed quality, style, comfort and thoughtfulness. So much so that we chose our holiday destination because of this glorious guest house, rather than choosing the destination first!
This time we stayed in the Egerton Suite and it was stunning. The huge Super King-size bed, was so comfortable that it was a joy to fall into after a tiring day exploring the area. The bathroom was enormous and scrupulously clean - everything just sparkled. The lovely claw-foot bath took centre stage, flanked by two wash basins and a large shower cubicle. I loved stepping from the shower, after using the lovely toiletries and wrapping myself indulgently in the large, fluffy towels.
The breakfasts served each morning in the bright, elegant dining room, really do keep you going all day. There is a choice of yoghrt, beautifully prepared fresh fruits, croissants or Danish pastries and cereals. Debbie makes her own Granola and it is so tasty, I had to have some each day! There are fruit juices too. The Sussex breakfast includes mainly local produce and is sometimes accompanied by potatoes, cooked in various ways. There is also the chance to order pancakes or scrambled eggs with salmon if you would like too. The breakfasts were always immaculately presented and the cooked breakfast was always served on piping hot plates. All this, rounded off with toast, honey homemade jams and marmalades. A feast indeed!
Both Debbie and Eric are superb cooks, as was perfectly displayed when we ate a three course meal one evening at The Old Manse. These evening meals, including I think, a two course meal, can be arranged whilst staying at the B+B. There were several choices to choose from and each and every one was beautifully presented and cooked, easily matching and, in some cases, surpassing dining out in a top end restaurant. The table was perfectly arranged, with fresh flowers and whiter than white tablecloth and napkins. Wonderful! Thankyou so much, Debbie and Eric.
There is so much to applaud about this amazing guest house. It is the absolute ultimate in luxury, comfort and hospitality. As soon as you step through the door, you feel like a friend as opposed to a guest. Once settled in, Debbie welcomes you with a drink and, the first of many, slices of exquisite homemade cake. We were lucky with the weather so we managed to enjoy ours on the sunny terrace, overlooking the immaculate front garden. Every afternoon there is another welcome slice of cake to help revive you on your return from a 'busy' day lounging on the beach, etc. On your return from an evening out you are greeted by the warm glow of the bedroom lamps and fresh milk, if required, in your room. Such little thoughtful touches make The Old Manse the perfect place for relaxation and you leave feeling thoroughly pampered and spoilt. The main assets of The Old Manse though have to be Debbie, Eric and Oliver. They are all such warm, friendly people, who immediately put you at ease. They really are the perfect hosts.
So, if you are looking for somewhere that embodies the term 'Total Perfection' then, seriously, look no further. It has everything to make your stay one you will never forget, for all the right reasons. Even the location is perfect! Just a short walk to the beautiful clean beach and an even shorter walk to the little railway station, where you can catch the train into London ( £20 for a day return, including underground and bus fares), Eastbourne or Brighton, etc.
All in all, the best B+B you can possibly hope to find on the South Coast. Forget all the big hotels, this can easily match them on the luxury front but it also leaves them standing on so many more. 10 Star Gold Award, that's what it should be! Thankyou Debbie, Eric and Oliver for making our holiday so very special, once again.
