“Overall good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

We recently stayed at the George Hotel in Battle. We struggled to find somewhere at short notice with a family room so were pleasantly surprised with a nice quiet room with very comfy beds. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and well decorated, however the water pressure in the shower was low and unsatisfying (hence the lower score). Also it was good to have free wifi however the signal was unreliable for the one night that we stayed there. The choice for breakfast was varied and nice and there was lots of it. The staff were friendly. Overall we would stay there again.

Had a nice stay at the George Hotel in room 1. However on arrival was greeted by a male receptionist friendly enough but over stepped the mark with a comment regarding our room " As the kinky room" making us feel bit sleazy, about the hotel and room. The hot tub was quite dirty and we had to clean it before use, there was also 2no cracked floor tiles which were dangerous. Apart from that the room was quite comfy. Location was excellent and breakfast was good value. A nice retreat for a night away.

We stayed at The George Hotel on the Saturday of a Bank Holiday weekend. The car park is small and once you have a space keep it! Reception was unattended but when we rang through the response was very quick. Check in was easy but there was a language difficulty when we asked if we needed a sticker for our car as there is a car clamping sign up. No sticker is required. We stayed in Room 4 which was lovely. The room had recently been refurbished and it was lovely. The bathroom was great; the shower was very effective. We couldn't find a bar as the downstairs had been converted into an Italian restaurant which was very busy. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and we would stay here again.

My fiance decided on a whim that it would be nice to go away for an evening and so we decided to search for a little bit of luxury and look for a hotel with a jacuzzi bath / hot tub. A google search bought up this hotel, and at £90 for the night it was by FAR the cheapest hotel we could find at short notice. SWe requested an early check in and were told that this was not a problem, nor was a late check out if required.
The hotel is RIGHT in the middle of Battle High Street - keep an eye out as the car park is a little bit difficult to spot and is also quite a small sharp turn off the road.

The entrance is at the back of the hotel through the car park, the lady on reception was very friendly and welcoming and offered us help with our luggage which was a lovely touch. Be aware that the hotel is attached to an italian restaurant and this is NOT part of the hotel.

We went into Room 1 - it is the most BEAUTIFUL room and we were really pleasantly surprised!! It looks incredibly luxurious with a beautiful dressing table! There is a wine cooler in the room which was a lovely touch, we bought some beers from the Co-Op across the road to enjoy for the evening, There is a flat screen tv on the wall with your basic Freeview channels.

Now for the piece de resistance - the bathroom. It was AMAZING! Huge, with a massive jacuzzi bath. My fiance and are on the larger side and it fitted us both in no problem. The only downside with it is that the water doesn't stay warm for too long and once you've filled the bath once, it's about a 2 hour wait before the tank is warm enough to have another full bath. Be warned also that the jacuzzi is VERY loud - we had an issue where it kept turning itself on, and when we went downstairs to find out how to turn it off, you can hear the jacuzzi running when you're down in reception! Small matters though, as we really, REALLY enjoyed everything about the room and bathroom. The bed was really comfortable and plenty big enough for the both of us!

As a tip, we spent the afternoon in the pub next to the hotel - The Bull Inn - which was fantastic, well worth a visit during your stay!!

We left feeling SUPER chilled out and relaxed and, for £90, we feel that the hotel was AMAZING value. Only deducted one "point" for the fact that there was no bar / room service at the hotel and I feel that if this were added it would really make the hotel 100% perfect!

Room Tip: Room 1 without a shadow of a doubt!!!

Lovely hotel. Nice clean room with all necessary amenities. Small detail but plenty of milk provided for coffee/tea making in room. Makes a change. Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice.
Friendly staff, happy to help.

I travel alone on business, so I am not looking for a luxury boutique hotel. All I'm looking for is a comfortable bed, a good warm shower and some friendly staff.

The George Hotel had a comfortable bed, but that's it. To say its basic is an understatement. As somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights it was ... OK, but if I had booked this for a weekend away or a special occasion, I would be gutted. It's tired, old, a bit dilapidated - just a bit wanting in all departments. The bathroom was the worst aspect for me. It was pretty unclean, the window had broken so had been boarded up with cardboard and there was no proper shower, just a showerhead that you had to sit in the bath to use (see photos).

As others have said, don't expect a warm welcome or a cheery goodbye. You get someone if you go to reception and dial a number at which point a group of young lads appear at an upper floor and peer down at you. A bit weird.

I will not be back

Room Tip: I had an attic room. I wouldn't recommend an attic room

The room was 'tired' I could have lived with that if the service had been better. On the last night we discovered that the making of the bed had consisted of pulling the quilt up, the sheets remained scrunched and untouched. The breakfast was ok, but no bar & nowhere other than the room to sit in. Would recommend you try elsewhere first.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the main road, the lights make it daytime in the room!
