After driving down from the Midlands we received a friendly welcome with coffee & homemade cake from Pauline. We were staying for a week & were pleased to have a lovely room with Goose down duvet & pillows making very comfortable sleeping. Breakfast was served in the Conservatory overlooking the garden, at times to suit ourselves with a variety of fresh fruit, cereals & cooked options, much of which were homemade, provided by Pauline with Bob making an excellent 'waiter'. The garden was available for relaxing if required. We never had any problems knowing where to eat or places to visit. Pauline & Bob were always happy to make suggestions & nothing was too much trouble. Information on starting times, car parking etc. helped us plan each day & on our return it was a nice surprise to find homemade cake waiting for us in the room. Pauline & Bob were excellent hosts & their dog, Sky, very placid & well behaved who knew her place, keeping well away from guests unless encouraged, was a nice extra. We fully recommend a visit to Lilac Tree Lodge.

Room Tip: Bedroom at the back of the house is quieter

Pauline welcomed us at the end of a long day’s drive from Cornwall. We had corresponded over the internet and we felt like we had known her for years. It was our 52nd wedding anniversary and Pauline gave us a number of suggestions for a great dinner. We took her recommendation and it was spot on – the Groom and Horses Pub provided a wonderful relaxing end to a long day. Our room overlooked Pauline’s pretty garden and the fields beyond. We had a large bath with big soft towels and a good spacious shower. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night’s sleep. There is a small lounge for guests on the ground floor near the entrance to the pretty conservatory where breakfast was served. Pauline cooked us a nice breakfast while we enjoyed good conversation with Bob. We came to Battle in order to visit Hastings as we are big Foyle’s War fans. Pauline suggested we also spend some time in Battle so we visited Battle Abbey, the site where William the conquerer defeated King Harold in 1066. Good suggestion as it was a pleasurable and informative two hour stop before heading out to Hastings.

We recently stayed at Pauline and Bob's for four nights, seeking a quiet break in comfort. We couldn't have made a better choice. Apart from the excellent food already mentioned by others, we found Pauline's very sensible philosophy on life and Bob's Northern sense of humour was just what we needed. Lilac Tree Lodge was also in an excellent location for visiting places of interest and for walking - nothing was too far away and trips were easy to organise. We shall certainly re-visit!

After an excellent first night at Pauline and Bob's, we found ourselves in an episode of the Great British Bake Off: never had such a wonderful breakfast. Homemade granola, jam and a cooked breakfast that looked like it just popped out of a Delicious magazine. We visited Battle that day, returned to the b&b and found freshly made chocolate cakes in our room. Wow! And we had two more nights left! We had a great night sleep in the luxury pink and grey styled room. Everything is new, clean and well taken care of. Pauline and Bob are kind and thoughtful hosts, in for a chat, and provided us with good tips on what to see and where to eat in the area. Loved it!

A fantastic break starting with the warm welcome from Pauline & Bob, the very comfortable and clean accommodation and the feeling that nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast menu was excellent with home made jams, tasty baked plums, fruit & yoghurt and an excellent full English cooked breakfast. The home made cake in the afternoon was a treat! We were thoroughly spoilt. Lilac Tree Lodge is well located to explore West Sussex and further, and Pauline & Bob provided a wealth of information as to where to go and what to see. Merriment Gardens was recommended by them and was a very unexpected delight to visit on our way home. We will certainly be back next year.

Room Tip: Back bedroom has a lovely view of the beautiful garden

What an amazing B & B. My partner and I booked a last minute trip so we could have a well earned rest but also to catch up with close relatives in the area. We mentioned via our booking that I suffer many food allergies and food intolerances and immediately Pauline emailed me back to find out what I could or couldn't eat and nothing seemed to phase her. When we arrived we were met by Bob (Pauline's husband) who made us feel very welcome. Pauline then showed us our room which was immaculate and the furnishings were first class. Our room had beautiful views and stunning sunsets. We also had use of a lounge and breakfast was served in a lovely bright conservatory. Pauline pulled out all the stops and served me scrambled egg with smoked salmon on toast, fresh fruit with soya yogurt, cereal with soya milk, followed by peppermint tea. I have never been so spoilt whilst away from home and it was a delight. Bryan had the usual full english breakfast and fresh fruit salad followed by toast and a pot of tea. There is a vast menu and Pauline is very flexible if you fancy something a bit different. We stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Pauline and Bob are very knowledgable of the area and gave us quite a few recommendations as to where to visit. I would so recommend this delightful B & B and I know we shall visit again in the future.

Room Tip: Either room will not disappoint you

A warm welcome when we arrived . Delicious cake each afternoon with tea and a superb breakfast with lovely home made jams made me go home and make jam! An excellent place to stay to explore the surrounding area. Lots of helpful advice where to visit and to eat from Pauline and Bob.
