“A fantastic time again at a truly lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

We again went to The blyth for our New Year break as we have done for the last 2 years. As usual we went for the excellent Aldeburgh room which we love as it is spacious and well appointed for everything we need. We also take advantage of the bank holiday to add an extra night on a DBB basis. We arrived on Sat 30th to be greeted by Owner Charlie and Rick who were generally pleased to see us as normal. After unloading the car we had a couple of drinks in the bar to catch up with everyone again. Friends from the prevous new year were also arriving and it was good to catch up with them. As my wife had just had major surgery we had to chat with Chef shuan to sort out her needs and this was done with usual minimum of fuss but with also care to attend to her needs. Dinner on the first night was exceptional and we retired to the bar to revel in Ricks sense of humour. The next day we rose to have a very lovely breakfast before heading off out for to sample the local places before returning to rest and get ready for the New Year party. Yet again as we returned to the bar to be met with a glass of fizz and some superb canapes before settling down to what can only be described as a superb dinner that although we had to pre book to help chef was of the finest quality. The dining room was decorated very nice and the tables were awash with hats and the usual Torpedo balloons that were soon be fird across tables to start the fun. Tables were then moved and the dancing began which continued well into the early hours only punctuated by the chimes of Big ben, Auld land syne sung and of course the fireworks followe by the customary bacon sandwiches. A truly top night was had by all and was really great to see everyone enjoying the night. The next morning i rose for another breakfast although my wife chose to sleep in. The day was spent on the pier at southwold and round the harbour and Southwold town before returning to listen to some Jazz at the hotel. After resting we went down to have a couple of drinks before eating another superb meal before retiring for an early night. It really was a supreb break at a lovely appointed hotel. It may not be 5 star but the excellent service from the staff , Chefs superb food, lovely clean and well appointed rooms, certainly make it for me and my wife a 5 star break. Charlie and Richard are superb Hosts and the staff of Claire, Jackie, Sam, Laurence and all the other staff are nothing but helpful and courteous at all times. Nothing is too much trouble and we will be returning again next year for another dose of The blyth's legendary hospitality. Recommended to all but for those that love a restful time plus some riotous fun this break at The Blyth is just for you. Try it we did and keep going back. Thanks to everyone for making it another great time and especially for all the help with Kims dietry needs. See you next year and hopefully during the year as well

Room Tip: Always check The Blyth website for deals but also call and talk to the staff they will always help y...

My husband and I, along with Barney, our Labrador/Springer dog, stayed at The Blyth for three nights towards the end of November. We were made very welcome on arrival - even a bowl and a bag of treats in our room for Barney. Our room was warm and comfortable with a king-sized bed. The food was excellent both at dinner and breakfast as one would expect of an award winning resturaunt. All the staff were pleasant and very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are delighted to have found a hotel which welcomes our four legged friend. We will return in the not too distant future when we want a break from our usual caravanning travels.

Room Tip: If you like fresh air at night, Room 6 has a balcony door that opens. Although at front of hotel it...

My husband and I stayed for a two night break in late November. We had originally booked at a pub who had double booked us as they had an interent problem but bless them, had arranged for us to stay at the Blyth for the same price. We'd never been to Southwold but had friends who were staying who knew the area well. The welcome from the landlord and staff was fab. All decked out for Xmas there was a welcoming glow to the place. We were perhaps a 10 min walk from the centre but this wasn't a problem to us. I'd read previous reports that our room 'the one with the fire exit' was to be avoided! However, the decor was restful, the bed very comfy, bathroom spacious & hey, we'd be first out in a fire. Was I bothered - no. If we'd been asleep in a fire at least you'd have been woken up by everyone else trying to get out. Breakfast was lush and our 4 friends staying nearby came for dinner on the Saturday night and were very impressed. Good choice and fairly priced. Will definitely come back to Southwold and will stay at the Blyth when we do. We loved it x

Room Tip: We were in the 'fire exit' room. I think number 5 but not a problem for us. They have regula...

My partner and I stayed her in Mid November for a weekend. As we pulled up to the hotel, we both felt slightly trepidatious as it wasn't what we were expecting at all - probably our fault. However, I have to confess once inside and into the swing of life at the Blyth, we both absolutely loved it. The staff can't do enough for you, the food is not overly ambitious but brilliantly cooked - they really do have a fantastic chef here - and the general ambience is one of relaxed, calm efficiency. On top of that we were on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal and I have to say that in terms of value for money it was brilliant. Compliments to the team at the Blyth, you're doing a great job.

We popped into a couple of other hotels in Southwold to get a comparison and whilst they were perhaps more grand looking, we were more than pleased with our choice of the Blyth.

Booked this hotel late and got good room rate. Also it was recommended by a friend who stayed here earlier this year. We were not disappointed. Beautifully decorated for Christmas and generally had a friendly atmosphere . Bedroom better than expected. Quiet Warm and Comfortable. Great for a winter Break. Service could be slightly more prompt in the restaurant and some staff appeared to be in training. Didn't impact too much but might if you were in a hurry . Food above average. Breakfast as good as 5 star hotels we've stayed in!
