We again went to The blyth for our New Year break as we have done for the last 2 years. As usual we went for the excellent Aldeburgh room which we love as it is spacious and well appointed for everything we need. We also take advantage of the bank holiday to add an extra night on a DBB basis. We arrived on Sat 30th to be greeted by Owner Charlie and Rick who were generally pleased to see us as normal. After unloading the car we had a couple of drinks in the bar to catch up with everyone again. Friends from the prevous new year were also arriving and it was good to catch up with them. As my wife had just had major surgery we had to chat with Chef shuan to sort out her needs and this was done with usual minimum of fuss but with also care to attend to her needs. Dinner on the first night was exceptional and we retired to the bar to revel in Ricks sense of humour. The next day we rose to have a very lovely breakfast before heading off out for to sample the local places before returning to rest and get ready for the New Year party. Yet again as we returned to the bar to be met with a glass of fizz and some superb canapes before settling down to what can only be described as a superb dinner that although we had to pre book to help chef was of the finest quality. The dining room was decorated very nice and the tables were awash with hats and the usual Torpedo balloons that were soon be fird across tables to start the fun. Tables were then moved and the dancing began which continued well into the early hours only punctuated by the chimes of Big ben, Auld land syne sung and of course the fireworks followe by the customary bacon sandwiches. A truly top night was had by all and was really great to see everyone enjoying the night. The next morning i rose for another breakfast although my wife chose to sleep in. The day was spent on the pier at southwold and round the harbour and Southwold town before returning to listen to some Jazz at the hotel. After resting we went down to have a couple of drinks before eating another superb meal before retiring for an early night. It really was a supreb break at a lovely appointed hotel. It may not be 5 star but the excellent service from the staff , Chefs superb food, lovely clean and well appointed rooms, certainly make it for me and my wife a 5 star break. Charlie and Richard are superb Hosts and the staff of Claire, Jackie, Sam, Laurence and all the other staff are nothing but helpful and courteous at all times. Nothing is too much trouble and we will be returning again next year for another dose of The blyth's legendary hospitality. Recommended to all but for those that love a restful time plus some riotous fun this break at The Blyth is just for you. Try it we did and keep going back. Thanks to everyone for making it another great time and especially for all the help with Kims dietry needs. See you next year and hopefully during the year as well
