3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2010

just stayed at the brook hotel, hotel more a 1 star than 3 stars. Hot tap in bathroom was loose on the sink, cobwebs everywhere and wall paper hanging from walls. carpet was dirty and bathroom window did not have a lock on it which was a concern as it went straight onto a fire escape. room was so hot we had to sleep on top of duvet, could only open main sash window a bit as childs bed was against it.
good points: staff were friendly and breakfast was great.
i know they say felixstowe was a victorian seaside town but i didn't think they mean't the present time. good place if your on the run because no one would find you.

Stayed at this hotel last weekend (end of April 2010) for a family wedding. Emailed ahead of time and asked whether it was possible to have a room at the end of a corridor as taking 5-month old baby with us ....ended up being allocated the room right next to the main staircase, so lay awake until 2.30am first night as could hear everything going on in reception and bar and guests returning late coming up the stairs whilst other family members (travelling without children and with no special requests) had been allocated rooms in quiet areas of the hotel!

Faults with the room......no spare pillows or blankets. Room absolutely roasting hot and only a very thick duvet on the bed, so either bake under the duvet or sleep with no covers. Half used sachet of hot chocolate in the hospitality basket, which was left out for room servicing staff but was not replenished. Interesting water feature when shower was used which created a lake-effect around the WC inspite of trying all combinations of positions with the shower curtain and bathmat. Bed was very uncomfortable, floorboards creaked everytime we moved, thus disturbing baby.

In the spirit of fairness, however, must mention that the cooked breakfasts were superb on both days, although a distinct lack of choice for cereals and fresh fruit looked like it had seen better days.....

Above is an honest review of our stay, have decided not to include information regarding how the hotel and it's sister venue, The Waverley, ruined my sister's wedding and would recommend that potential wedding customers make sure that their wishes are made VERY clear to management and cross their fingers that these are followed!

We stayed at the brook hotel 29/08/09,when we booked in the receptionist said there was a function on that evening, but we were in the hong kong section and the function was the other side of the building and would end at 12 oclock, what she failed to realise was that after going up the stairs in the opposite direction of the function room we then had to turn left and overlooked the function room and outdoor area. The noise was incredible and we got no sleep it seemed to go on for ever and when it eventually ended the staff were outside making lots of noise cleaning up,like your previous reviewer we were glad to leave and was very dissapointed.

That's apart from the bit where you pay of course!

The room was not too bad for price but small and had a 'seedy' feel about it. Everything creaks! The walls are made of paper. The floor wasnt much thicker - due to a party downstairs the bed was vibrating from then noise! Not a pleasant experience. We were not told of the potential noise until booking in and had no idea of how awful it would be. According the hotel, it wasn't a problem as the party finished at 12 midnight!!!
We were pushed into booking breakfast at booking in which we refused - but it was not easy. This sums up this dump - you are just a walkng wallet.
Stay somewhere else!

LeighHemmings, Marketing Manager at BEST WESTERN Brook Hotel, Felixstowe, responded to this review, September 7, 2009
The Brook Hotel feel that this review is very unfair. The Brook was upgraded to 3 Star in May 2009 and is now a beautiful Edwardian hotel. The guest doesn't give his date of stay/name, but as most of those rooms have been refurbished, it's likely that the room was completely new with new bed/bathroom/interior. Of course, we apologise if there was any noise in the hotel on that evening. We absolutely dispute any "pressure" regarding breakfast and feel this is highly unlikely. We apologise if the hotel did not meet this guest's standards but feel this review is harsh and does not reflect the high standard of interior, food, staff and general facilities available at The Brook Hotel and the wonderful comment cards which are filled in daily, congratulation staff/food/rooms/location.

Hotel rooms, retaurant, reception and bar have all been refurbished and has recently been awarded 3rd AA star. Staff friendly and polite, food great and would recommend.
Mike, the bartender still pulling pints and a real gem!

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL, we ended up having to get the police involved.....

Five of us booked a one night stay for a friends birthday on Sat night, after myself and my two female friends retired to our rooms my boyfirend and friend's husband stayed in the bar.
The two guys were made to go into a back room of the hotel were the hotel manager and another man held them saying that the guys had to sign a bar tab in the region of £600 (our actual bar tab was about £40) When my boyfriend refused the manager physically tried to stop him leaving the room. The guys managed to get out the room and luckily the police arrived. We did not want to stay a minute longer and the police were very understanding as to the reason why!
As we left the manager was very agressive and came right up to my face at which point I felt very threated and was glad that the police were present to intervene.

A very scary night, I would strongly warn people against staying at this hotel.

  • Liked — Absolutely nothing
  • Disliked — Staff aggressive rude and could hardly speaky English, no room service, hotel very shabby& filthy

After recently staying in the Brook hotel i feel that some of the reviews i have read are a little harsh according to my experience. The room we stayed in needed a very good makeover but was overall quite clean. On both the two mornings during our stay, we were awoken by the cleaner letting herself into the room to clean. Bear in mind at 8.45am i felt this was a little unappropriate and i felt a little bit of the privacy you expect from a hotel, stripped away. The floor boards were extremely creaky - i wouldn't recommend this hotel for a couple on their honeymoon!! The hotel seemed to be catering for older couples as I was the second youngest person eating in the carvery and i am 43. Food was average, staff not english. Dont think we would return because im sure there are better hotels in felixstowe for the same price.
