This place was well worth a visit and as a member of English Heritage we were able to get in for free.It was full of history with a lot of its rooms remaining unrestored with original lockers, sinks, baths and peeling paintwork. Its is worth getting the audio guide as you enter so that you can get an understanding of the history of the fort whilst also being able to find your way around and knowing exactly where you are situated.
The fort is a bit like a maze and a brilliant place to explore with its many corridors and linked rooms, some displaying replica guns,a viewing station,a reconstruction of the boot room.
The fort is on two levels entered via stairs and each section numbered so that you find your way around easily.
There was a shop selling the usual gifts and books, porta loos were also available which were clean when we visited.
As the fort is very close to the beach, you can take a walk into Felixstowe and also watch the comings and goings at the docks.
I would recommend a visit here if you enjoy a bit of history and nostalgia
