“A magnificent country pub with superb beer, food and hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

We have eaten several times at The Bell since it got taken over a couple of months ago by the new landlords Paul and Clare. They have restored this pub to its former glory both in terms of ambience, food and beer. Fabulous food choices with Specials menu changing twice a day. Great value for money and industry experienced professionals running the place, who spent 17 years previously runing the renowned Victoria Inn in Earl Soham. So I would not hesitate in thoroughly recommending the Cretingham Bell! It's the best pub for miles!

Sunday roasts here are always exceptional, well worth taking the trouble to find this pub. Roast beef, yorkshire pud and gravy are all very good. Good old fashioned home-cooked food. And lovely to have the veg separate. Good atmosphere, ambience, cosy sofa's, wood fires, friendly hosts. We would highly recommend a visit.

We have just spent a great weekend at the Cretingham Bell which had atmospheric character in comfortable surroundings. Our host Charles and Sarah were a pleasure to be with and made the weekend fun. The food Charles served was exceptional and great value. My aunt who is celiac and can only eat gluten free food found that Charles could adapt most of the menu for her .
We stayed two nights and the room was charming very quaint , clean and very comfortable. My family had a 40th birthday party and we found nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and it made for a memorable evening. This pub/bed and breakfast is a real gem and would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely going back again. To Charles and Sarah thank you for a lovely time x

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and comfortable and would not matter what room you stayed in

We were tootling around today, from Ipswich heading towards Framlingham on back roads, and we came across The Cretingham Bell. What a happy accident. The pub looked lovely, a big lawn at the front with just a few benches and tables; lots of space between, and a huge car park.
It looked so lovely in the sunshine that we stopped and went in, and we are sooooo glad we did.
This pub dates from the 16th century and has low ceilings, beams and lots of atmosphere.....oh, and a friendly ghost too.
The land lord and wife are a delightful couple; he cooks and she serves...and paints lovely pictures and cards that are all for sale. The lunch was good too, a really generous ploughman's, a very well filled tuna and mayo, delicious bagette and good coffee. My husband loved the real ale there; it made a fabulous shandy.
This is the perfect place for anyone to go for a meal, for people to go to paint and for those who wish to see the night sky unencumbered by light overspill.
I suspect we shall go back and take friends too. This is too good a place to leave finding by chance; everyone should go and just see how a pub can be.

Room Tip: There are three rooms, but in a place this age, any would be worth staying in.

We stayed here by virtue of voucher for dinner, bed and breakfast. Our stay started with a lovely greeting from the hosts and it all went on from there. We were in room 1 - a good sized room, pleasantly decorated with oak beams and facings. The roof line is quite low so anyone above 6ft.1.in will have to be aware. Unlike so many B&B'S and hotels there were two chairs provided which adds to the comfort. The bed was one of the best we have slept in. Downstairs there is a good bar where they serve a rather good Czech lager. Whilst waiting to go in for dinner you can relax in a cosy, comfortable area. Our dinner order was taken whilst we waited with our pre-meal drinks so that when we were shown to our table our starters were served really quickly. Our voucher deal included 3 courses with wine. As I wanted a red and the wife a white wine, we were offered two glasses of each which I thought was a nice touch. The service was excellent. One young girl who has to be one of the best efficiently served 18 covers with no errors. The menu selection was very good The prices were reasonable and the selection very good. A couple of dishes were offered in smaller portions. I selected the sausage and mustard mash with 3 sausages but 2 would have been enough. The wife had the pork. Both meals were very good. After a good night's sleep we enjoyed a full English breakfast (proper, plump, meaty sausage). So it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we can recommend The Bell particularly for a quiet weekend.
