After nearly two hundred miles the worst words one can hear when booking in are "There is a problem with your room" A quick check to see if we had strayed onto a Costa somewhere but no, this was Northernmost Norfolk. The problem being that the room was not finished - actually a' cottage' around the courtyard . We were offered an alternative cottage which was 'finished' minus phone, towels, etc and a freshly painted floor which had no window to open - only patio doors which led out onto a field and therefore could not be left open at night with the bunnies hopping outside.
We were advised that only a very late meal could be arranged, ie 9 30pm and that we could find "somewhere along the road to Hunstanton to eat". The final straw was when the single bed in the room listed like the Titanic when my mother got into it and it skidded across the painted floor.! The poor young man who attended to our plight that night then said that it was known two days before that the work on the 'cottage' booked for us would not be completed. No attempt was made to contact us and advise us of this fact.
Next morning after breakfast the manager advised us that she could phone to see if accommodation was available locally or we could go home ! We decided to move to another part of Norfolk and try and enjoy the rest of our holiday.
Such a pity that this indifference to clients was allowed to happen as the breakfast was excellent and the 'cottages' will be of a high standard when completed. By the managers own admission they were not ready for us to stay and fully refunded our deposit.

To say we were disappointed with The Titchwell Manor Hotel is a kind euphemism. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, looking forward to staying in a room with a garden view and having a very high standard regarding furnishings and fittings. The room we were given in one of the outside 'cottages' was terrible, THIS ROOM SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN LET-OUT. Firstly, there was an incessant dripping tap (sink badly marked so it must have been a problem for a while), then an awful stench from the drains and to add to the misery the walls were so thin you could hear absolutely everything from the room next door. The garden view was a piece of scrubby lawn probably 1m sq and the bath/shower was terrible. The quality of furnishings was very, very poor indeed considering the 'feel' the management want to create for this hotel.

The Titchwell Manor Hotel's restaurant is in the conservatory at the side of the hotel. The food is of a very, very high quality so expect a quite considerable wait for your dinner (probably around 2.5 - 3 hours for three courses). We also felt the low lighting (candles and the odd table lamp) made it a little too gloomy and more lighting would have been beneficial. The staff were attentive.

Needless to say we didn't sleep at all well in the shabby room and checked out the next day and stayed at the excellent Virginia Court Hotel in Cromer for the remainder of our stay in North Norfolk.

[One final point, due to the close proximity of the marshes there seemed to be an awful lot of flies in the restaurant with no measures (apparent) to try to alleviate the problem]

July 2004. Stayed 3 nights at this wonderful hotel on the North Norfolk coast. Great room with enormous comfy bed & lots of extras (even a teddy bear!). Fantastic views over the RSPB reserve & down to the beach.
Great staff, friendly & attentive, made us feel very welcome & comfortable. Had breakfast & dinner each day - haven't eaten such beautifuuly presented & prepared food in a long time & the service was impeccable.
Pimms in the sunny garden completed a lovely weekend. We thoroughly recommend Titchwell Manor & will definitely return.
Great location, being near RSPB & National Trust reserves, footpaths & beautiful sandy beaches.
