After nearly two hundred miles the worst words one can hear when booking in are "There is a problem with your room" A quick check to see if we had strayed onto a Costa somewhere but no, this was Northernmost Norfolk. The problem being that the room was not finished - actually a' cottage' around the courtyard . We were offered an alternative cottage which was 'finished' minus phone, towels, etc and a freshly painted floor which had no window to open - only patio doors which led out onto a field and therefore could not be left open at night with the bunnies hopping outside.
We were advised that only a very late meal could be arranged, ie 9 30pm and that we could find "somewhere along the road to Hunstanton to eat". The final straw was when the single bed in the room listed like the Titanic when my mother got into it and it skidded across the painted floor.! The poor young man who attended to our plight that night then said that it was known two days before that the work on the 'cottage' booked for us would not be completed. No attempt was made to contact us and advise us of this fact.
Next morning after breakfast the manager advised us that she could phone to see if accommodation was available locally or we could go home ! We decided to move to another part of Norfolk and try and enjoy the rest of our holiday.
Such a pity that this indifference to clients was allowed to happen as the breakfast was excellent and the 'cottages' will be of a high standard when completed. By the managers own admission they were not ready for us to stay and fully refunded our deposit.
