“Very comfortable, great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Good clean, nicely furnished accommodation in seperate section aside from the main hotel in the basil room ( number 21), prompt service and very interesting menu with excellent presentation of food in the conservatory restaurant.
Breakfast was very good, with a variety to choose from.
All in all a great place to relax and chill after the "rush" of christmas and our thanks to the hosts for providing us with such a relaxing short break.
The following morning was spent on the beach of Brancaster...one of the most gorgeous places in North Norfolk !

Thank you for a lovely review, I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Brancaster beach is indeed one of the best, we are so very lucky to have it just a short walk away - I hope you managed to see some of the local seals on your visit, they're amazing to watch. We hope to see you again in the future.
Kind regards, Margaret

We spent a few days at Titchwell Manor between Christmas and New Year with our dog.

Had a nicely appointed large room in a modern block separate from the main hotel building plenty of room for the three of us and a huge bed. Nice little extras including a cafetiere, fresh ground coffee sachets and cookies in a little jar.

We had to eat in the bar as we had the dog with us. This was no hardship - indeed far from it as you are presented with the bar menu of 'classics' (which happens to be right up my personal street) and also the a la carte main restaurant menu with its array of culinary delights - this really is seriously good food.

Breakfast is either the tradiitonal cold fayre or an interesting selection of cooked dishes some of which I haven't seen elsewhere and were quite delicious.

Staff were friendly, attentive and helpul throughout.

On the 'minor gripe' side the shower in bathroom was not great and the shower screen over the bath just didn't work and the floor flooded each time we used it.

The hotel lounge could really do with being a bit larger (I counted only 14 seats) and we couldn'y get in after dinner on our first side so had to enjoy the excellent liqueur coffee at our table.

However, those small things aside, I can honestly say this place is definately worth a try.

Room Tip: Overlooking the herb garden

I am glad that the three of you had a lovely break with us over the festive season, we love having dogs to stay at the hotel, though we do appreciate that some guests prefer to dine without them so hope you understand that we restrict their access to the bar areas. As you say though, we serve our entire menu (including our tasting menu) throughout all dining areas, as some people prefer to have fine food in a more informal setting - some have even had our 8-course menu out on the terrace in the warmer months!

We are pleased that you enjoyed the food with us, we think that as a hotel, breakfasts are as important as any other meal, so try hard to make it interesting and varied and it is lovely to hear that this extra effort is appreciated, thank you.

Thank you for the feedback on the shower screen, it has already been fixed so hopefully should not be an issue. I'm sorry you couldn't enjoy a post dinner drink in the lounge on your first evening, sometimes it does get busy, but particularly in the winter months when everyone wants to sit by the fire (the Christmas tree also lost us two of our usual seats!)

We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Margaret

Thanks to a special mid week offer my husband and I booked for the night, this was our second visit to Titchwell Manor and again we had a wonderful relaxed experience.
Check in was smooth and Maragaret showed us to our room which was number 7 just across from the bar. Last time we stayed in the Oyster room which was larger but we did have the children then.
The room was lovely had everything we needed, loved the biscuits delicious & the bathrobes.
In the evening we enjoyed a drink sitting on the lovely sofas in front of the beautiful open fire so cosy while we chose what to eat in the restaurants.
The food was excellent I had the Houghton Venison this was the best I have ever tasted & the puddings were to die for. We finsihed off with coffee back in the lounge in front of the fire.
Breakfast was also the best ever the choice was amazing.
We were so sad to check out and just wished we could have stayed longer everyone at Titchwell were amazing so friendly we left feeling so relaxed and will definitely return and hopefully next time we can stay in the Potting Shed
Thank you Titchwell Manor this was perfect just what we needed

Thank you so much for your kind words Jayne, we are delighted that you enjoyed another stay with us. We certainly agree, the Houghton venison is amazing, we are so lucky to have such brilliant produce available on our doorstep in Norfolk. Let us know when you're able to come again and hopefully you can experience the potting shed!
Best wishes, Margaret

We stayed in a traditional room, situated in the courtyard (not the main building). The room was nicely decorated with a fireplace with a log burning stove (ready for lighting). The bed was comfortable, but the location of the room meant you had to keep the blinds drawn or people/cars going past could see straight into the room. The bathroom was dated with a shower fitting over the bath and a shower curtain (I hate these). Could hear people moving about above us and bathroom noises - water running, etc. Last time we stayed in a herb room, The breakfast was excellent. We did not eat there in the evenings. Nowhere really to sit and enjoy a drink before dinner. The sofa area is soul-less and not very inviting and the seating in front of the bar is too much like a cafe. Dogs in both areas - we went out to find a pub instead. We enjoyed our stay but would not hurry back. Weekend prices are high and there are lots of other places in the area. The area has really gone upmarket over the last couple of years with a lot more choice for eating and sleeping.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts and comments, these are always appreciated, both praise and constructive criticism. I am sorry that our public areas in the hotel were not to your taste, most of our guests rave about the inviting lounge area which has plenty of comfortable seating and an open fire for a pre-dinner drink. We do request that dogs are restricted to the bar area, so they perhaps should not have been there on this occasion. I can only apologise that you did not enjoy these areas.

I am pleased that you had a pleasant stay, we do understand that the room backs onto the rear of the hotel, which can be accessed by car, but hope that because the room is dual aspect, with the other large bay window looking onto the garden, guests would not usually find it disappointing. We are indeed very lucky that North Norfolk has become so popular in recent years, it is lovely that visitors to the area have plenty of scope for enjoying different establishments, we particularly enjoy the range of dining options that area offers us as locals.
Kind regards, Margaret.

We stayed in the Potting Shed for 2 nights Sun til Tue and the whole stay was superb. Check in was smooth, the room was well appointed and the main hotel area had a warm & cosy feel. The restaurant had a very good al a carte menu and an award winning taster menu. Both are very nice and relatively okay price wise. Staff we're polite and friendly. The open fires and comfy sofas were a huge plus point. Location wise it's brilliantly placed to explore north Norfolk and although placed on the main coast road we weren't bothered by traffic noise at all. Free wifi is available in the main hotel but not in the Potting Shed and there's little or no phone signal so don't expect it! On the whole very well recommended.

Your words are very kind and much appreciated, thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review. I am delighted that you had a lovely stay with us and enjoyed our open fires - so lovely at this time of year, particularly after a blustery day exploring the local beaches! We can only apologise for the lack of phone signal, some areas are better than others around the hotel, but unfortunately the phone companies do not favour us in rural Norfolk, though some guests do appreciate the forced 'switch-off'! I hope we will be welcoming you back again in the future.
Kind regards, Margaret

I've stayed before and prefer the main house. This time I was booked outside but moved back in quickly when I said I wanted to be. My room (6) wasn't as unique as the one I had perviously (2) but as it is November, essential maintenance is taking place and think Room 2 is getting some attention.

My room was comfortable but for me, was a bit more corporate (pale matching furniture) than I'd expect of this lovely original comfortable hotel. I like the quirky bright prints and antique furniture you see elsewhere in the hotel. The service is as always really good. Food is great though for a female midweek business traveller I'd also welcome some simple veggie stuff. Lots of steak and chips type meals and the puddings are to die for although resisted the temptation.

Titchwell Manor is England at it's finest. Under stated, elegant, warm, friendly, stylish. Do check that the room you are booked in is what you expect. Many people raved to me about the lovely garden hut rooms so there is something for everyone.

Room Tip: Some rooms in the main house tend to have more character if that is what you seek. Also handy if the...

Thank you very much for your review and feedback. Interestingly, as I type this room 6 (as well room 4) is having a redesign by Shaun Clarkson, who is responsible for rooms 1, 2 and 3, please do let us know your preferences on your next visit so that we can try and book you into one of his rooms again, we love the quirkiness of their style and hope that several more rooms will be influenced by him in the future. It is lovely to hear that the hotel is so nice for a business traveller as well as being a getaway.

Eric tries to ensure that we have several vegetarian dishes on between the bar, a la carte and conversation menu, but if you let us know when you check in, he or one of his team would be very happy to come up with some simpler dishes for you too. We hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Margaret

We stayed for 3 nights with our daughter in a family room in the main building. The room was very spacious, with a single and a very comfortable king sized bed. We had stayed previously in a 'Herb Garden' room and were keen to try the main hotel. The whole stay was excellent and we were reluctant to move far in the evening, especially as the meals served in bar area were of such a high standard. The fish & chips were superb.
Breakfasts were varied and again of a high standard. The fact that Titchwell RSPB reserve is so close is a real bonus for birding visitors. Definitely a place to come back to again.
