“Old world charm with modern service and menus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Hotel backs on to Sheringham Park with various walks of different lengths. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely menus with good wine list. Great grounds with outside tables, some with gazebos, for sitting out.

We had a small family gathering with 7 of us staying.

We had a lovely time all round. The staff were extremely helpful and made sure our stay was what we wanted. We ate in the restaurant both evenings and chose mainly from the Table D'Hote menu which was great, if quite restrictive on choice of desserts.

The food quality was fine and the team in the restaurant were excellent.

Lovely country house hotel and great for a quiet grown up break. The staff were really very helpful and went out of their way to look after you and make you feel welcome. Sadly the hotel was let down for us by the food, a beautiful dining room, but the food was poor, lacking in taste, hardly any vegetables and meat very over cooked. i did not eat my breakfast because it was only luke warm when it arrived, the same with dinner the night before, it was served only just warm.Would stay here again but eat out. Hotel, grounds staff and everything except the restaurant were perfect.

We had a lovely room overlooking the garden. It was a standard room but spacious with large bathroom and was very quiet. The garden has a large chess set, croquet and a large Jenga so children could be easily entertained.
The room was well equipped with a kettle and drinks and the teacups were washed and tea bags replenished whilst we were at dinner.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and efficient.
Dinner was quite good-generous portions of meat and fish but we would have liked more vegetables.Breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked.
We would happily return to stay here.

We stayed here for a weekend in July and this was out third visit. The staff are lovely and the service was very good. The hotel itself is typical 'country house' and our room was clean and comfortable. The only disappointment as far as we are concerned was the food which, although presented in a very fine dining way was below what I would expect in terms of taste. The breakfast was not too bad although the eggs were very hit and miss and mostly dry. Dinner was a disappointment each evening with bones left in fish, overcooked (almost inedible) confit duck and almost no vegetables to speak of. This was disappointing as on our previous visits the food was good. Overall a nice hotel and I would stay again would perhaps eat out.

When we arrived everything was fine, we had our dog with us and were made to feel welcome. The first evening went well, we were well attended to. Second day was awful, different staff and standards fell apart. We were ignored and made to feel like lepers. Checked out and complained about the second days standards... Water of a ducks back. Checked our bill, after we got home. OVERCHARGED. Wrote and complained to 'The Dales' and Head office at 'Overstrand'. No replies.

Attention to detail very poor & gardens poorly kept. Staff training very suspect. Shame as this hotel could be one of the best of its kind. If both days had been good we would have returned on a regular basis but management of this small chain is appalling. So instead of five we can only give a terrible rating. No excuse for no reply is there.

Room Tip: Dont' go here! Quality from day to day questionable.

We stayed in Norfolk with the family's ho live there for the weekend and decided to pay the dales a visits for afternoon tea. On arrival we were met by Rachel who asked us where we like to sit. We found a lovely table under a gazebo in the garden out of the very hot sun and settled down. Rachel took our orders for tea and coffee and went away. Within a few minutes she came back with a number of tea pots , English tea in one and Earl grey in two others. The next time she came back she was carrying a large full cake stand with assorted cakes and a slate with sandwiches on this we were happy with, then she said hold on there is another one for the diabetic person as well and returned with another cake stand . On this was salmon, prawns and a large mixture of fruits. On the others were cakes a plenty. The sandwiches were very well presented and filled with salmon, ham, cheese and pickle and egg and cress. This was all washed down with copious amounts of tea and made for a thou rally excellent afternoons tea experience. Thanks the dales and Rachel for making us so welcome and looking after us.
