For my birthday we decided to travel to the north Norfolk coast, for some relaxing sunshine and a nice meal. As it happened, on the drive there, the heavens opened and didn't stop until after our meal was finished. We pulled into the Dunstable Arms, which my husband spotted, in Sheringham, after travelling the coast road from Cromer. There were 2 menus, one for light lunches and another full menu for lunch and evenings. It said that they also do Sunday lunch, and that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were steak, seafood and curry nights respectively. We parked on the front, but there may have been access to more parking at the rear, although the gate was closed. It was raining so heavily we didn't look. There appears to be plenty to do for children to keep them occupied. Local brews included Adnams ale and Aspall cider. The toilets were clean and well presented. We chose the full menu, and had starters of the Indian platter and blanch bait, both of which were lovely. Then steak (cooked exactly how my husband likes it) and seafood platter for me. A pity everything was crumbed and fried, but otherwise very enjoyable. I then had the chefs creme brulee, which was delicious, we also had drinks with our meal and coffees to follow. Unfortunately, my husband had forgotten his reading glasses and although he didn't like to, he gave me the bill to look at. Wow! I know we had a nice meal - but 84.00 for 2 of us? At a quick glance, I could see that there were far too many items on it, and I had to check it off against what we had eaten and drunk. It turned out that there were 15 items on it, and we had had only 9. The bill was re-presented at 51.45, I checked later and it should have actually been 51.25 but hey? what's 20p? So that was nearly 33.00 over the top. We hated to have to ask for it to be re-checked, but Jackie said she does make this mistake sometimes and forgets to remove someone else's sub-total and goes onto to someone elses tab. That is extremely unfortunate, and if it has happened before, all the more reason to be aware it doesn't happen again. Sadly, it spoilt what would otherwise have been a really lovely lunch out.
