“A Step Back in Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

We visited the Maltings Hotel, Weybourne recently for a weekend. On first approaching the hotel we thought it was closed, not a car in the car park and all in darkness. We approached the front door and entered a rather dimly lit reception area. The hotel dates back to the 1600's and is clean and comfortable, our bedroom was wonderful, furnished with old style furniture and a huge 4-poster bed. The en-suite had been refurbished in the 1970's but was desperate for an upgrade, however it was clean and we did have a shower. The bar area was quite small but two good size lounges. We had a superb breakfast each morning, the usual fruit juices, fruit, and beautifully cooked main breakfast, toast, tea or coffee. The evening meals were pre-booked from breakfast, each evening we decided the eat in the hotel to save someone driving. The food was excellent and the evening meal made our weekend.

Room Tip: We had Room 6, with a 4-poster bed, a huge comfortable room, lovely.

Lovely quaint little hotel/restaurant. Like stepping back in time. Lovely friendly hosts. Spotlessly clean, good food. What more can I say except that it was very good value for money. Well situated in the coast, with beautiful surrounding scenery and only a short walk to the beach.

If you are an overseas visitor wishing to have a classic English 'Faulty Towers' type experience this is the hotel for you. Decor probably hasn't changed since 1972 and it is packed full of quirky features.

But the bed I had was comfortable and the breakfast was good so was fine for our brief visit.

Hotel was like a step back in time, all things good. Our room was huge with a comfortable 4 poster bed with nice crisp white sheets, everywhere was spotlessly clean. All the amenities, great breakfast and lovely hosts. Weybourne is a beautiful coastal village totally unspoilt. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Recommend the four poster room at the front. Dog friendly too

We spent three nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room (No 6) was spacious and the four poster bed very clean and comfortable. The food both breakfast and in the evening was delicious and very generously portioned. The chef certainly knows his business and the menu, by and large, concentrates on doing simple dishes well. The proprietors run a happy ship and both they and the other members of staff are friendly without being either intrusive or obtrusive. The hotel is set in a pleasant village quite near to a beach where one can see the sea without having to resort to a telescope or binoculars!! We found this a very homely place and would recommend it. If you seek five star luxury this is not the place for you, but if you want a hotel with a certain olde worlde charm this is it.

Yes it's outdated and the rooms were whiffy (fusty damp smell). Food was excellent. Pity as it has such potential. Not value for money and I would recommend you stay at the pheasant further up the road. Chalk and cheese and not much difference in the price!

The Maltings is a pleasant step back in time. My room was old fashioned but very clean, very comfortable, big and in good order. No shower, but piping hot water immediately available for the bath. The owners are friendly, looked after me well and there was a nice relaxed feeling about the place. The evening meal was good and I will certainly go back there again.
The 'main road' on which the hotel is to be found was not noticed at all. There is a good village corner shop (and mini café) just down the road for sandwiches etc for the daytrips, plus a pub with good beer (the Ship) and the pebbley beach is a short walk away.
