“Nice Family Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2006

We booked this quite late for the Great North Run weekend. I was quite worried after reading some reviews on this site.

Upon arrival, after a 300+ mile trip with our 2 daughters (5 and 2) we had a warm welcome at reception, and my daughters were very quickly given a children pack.

We were also given a complimentary room upgrade from the hotel.

Our room was very spacious, even with a sofa bed and z-bed set up in the sitting room area. The double bed was in a separate area, and both areas had TVs. The rooms were clean, but could have done with some minor re-decoration. The bathroom was also clean and of adequate size.

We opted for room service on our first night, and there was even a childs menu in their packs, which suited both our girls. The food arrived within 30 mins and was fine.

The breakfast was fine, and food good. Leisure club was also good, although pool could probably get pretty busy during busy periods.

The earliest we managed to book diner for was 7pm, but the dining room was pretty quite, and seemed quite child friendly, and the menu was fine for our girls (both quite fussy). The food was lovely, and portion sizes were perfect.

We would certainly go back again, even without children!!!!

Would not hesitate to recommend to others.

We were part of a wedding party and booked a family room over a year in advance.Because of a cock up with check in procedures, on the hotels behalf, approx 50 guests were left with 20 MINS to prepare for the wedding. (CHECK IN WAS HELD BACK TIL 20 MINS BEFORE THE WEDDING, as the rooms were not ready )
Each time my young son turned the tv on, , HE WAS OFFERED ADULT MOVIES.........AND IN A FAMILY ROOM TOO !!!!!!!!!
I must say, the room was at best adequate !!
Dont pay by debit card, you will be humiliated !!

I attended a wedding as part of the wedding party and I was initially impressed with the exterior of the building.

When we found our room to say we were dissapointed would be an understatement, the wallpaper was peeling, the bathroom had rather a lot of mould growing in it and there was water dripping from the ceiling.

We changed rooms no question and the more modern room we moved to was no better than a travel lodge but was three times the price. We had to return to reception again as there was no power to the room.

All in all the experience was very expensive and value for money was pathetic. I complained at reception on check out and got a shrug of the shoulders so I wrote a letter of complaint to the manager (something I have never felt strongly enough to do before) and got an appology eventually.

Stay away if you can!!!!!
