“Lovely hotel and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a weekend break in July on a secret escape. We upgraded to a spa room when we got there which was a fantastic move. We were in the attic new build part with skylights which we were able to leave open all night and we weren't overlooked. Spa bath was ace, used it a couple of times during my stay. 3 course meal was included with the deal with a bottle of wine, this was superb, really nice meal and breakfast was lovely too. Not sure what happened with other people but we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return and recommend. Short drive to Durham for a day out also and late check out was a nice touch. When you stay at hotels of the same calibre frequently, you don't expect to be 'wowed' every time - you just don't. You expect them to be clean, accommodating, comfortable and you hope they have facilities of the same standard too.

Redworth Hall, for the most part was all of these things. Certain parts of the hotel were better than others in terms of looks and presentation. From the outside it looks good, the gym and pool were great, the restaurant was clean and quick with nice enough food.

The grounds are lovely and the staff are all pleasant and helpful. The carpark is of a reasonable size however not all of it is lit so you can expect to walk a fair distance in the pitch black with suitcases etc.

The room! Ours was Room 406. A tired looking room with wobbly legs on most pieces of furniture, a quite badly broken velux roof window and blind that wouldn't shut or cover respectively, some non-working ceiling lights, rickety tv cabinet and then some other shabby aspects that let the room down.

Overall the stay was okay, and the room was workable but certainly didnt WOW me. Its not a room I will remember fondly, no redeeming features, just another hotel room that was slightly worse than some others I have stayed in.

I would have liked to have been wowed. That happens infrequently though I find, disappointed but it would not put me off trying this hotel again in the hope I was given a better room.

I would have complained more but to be honest, relatives staying with us had similar concerns and were shown other rooms that were in a similar condition so I chose to put up and avoid on this occasion the hassle.

We came here with work . My bedroom was lovely but I couldn't work out how to use the shower and the jacuzzi bath had the plug in the middle so every time you sat near it, it let the water out. The toilets stunk of uncleanness masked by an overwhelming perfume. The mixers were flat as was the beer. The food was diabolical and the staff were flustered and disorganised. The function room stunk of cleaning products and was tired and basic. The hotel was boiling hot. I will not be going there again.

I was given a room in the old part of the hotel. Spacious and clean with a whirlpool bath -a good start! However the peace was soon shattered by a regularly banging fire door immediately outside the room. The room was too warm despite turning the radiator off, due to a large heating pipe running through the room Food was very average. Used the gym- ok. Pool area looked nice.
Have stayed here before but in the modern rooms, which are smaller, further from the main entrance, but were much quieter.

I felt I should write a review for this as so many people have written negative reviews. I too booked through Secret Escapes and got what I thought was very good value for money.
We were not segregated in the dining room, each time we ate at a different table and each time the service was very good. Our inclusive meal was tasty, well cooked and well served including a bottle of house wine. The afternoon tea (also included) the next day was delicious and far too much food, we couldn't possibly have finished all the cake! This was served in the bar, again good food, very good service.
Our room was 210, accessible by lift if needed, clean and with a nice view of the courtyard. This is what it is, a chain hotel offering good deals. We visited Durham, just half an hour away, used the pool which was fine and chilled out a bit at the end of a road trip for our anniversary. The other places we stayed in were more "boutique" and unusual but Redworth Hall finished things off nicely with a couple of relaxing days. The surrounding grounds are lovely and the general standard of the hotel very good.

The hotel was beautiful in lovely grounds. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The whole experience was ruined by the food in the restaurant which was cold and badly cooked. We had to pay extra for the potatoes and the vegetables to go with the meal. The service was bad having to wait 30 mins between each course. Coach loads of elderly people arrived at the hotel which made the restaurant staff over worked as the restaurant was full of people. Will not go to this hotel again.

Had tried to book Hardwick Hall but had to settle for Redworth Hall and I am glad we did. Fantastic location and steeped in history. This was a business stay for colleagues from Sweden so I was hoping to impress them accordingly. They were suitably impressed. We had booked four rooms and my colleagues said they're rooms were excellent. I had a room 110 and it seemed tired furnishing wise. However it was in the older section of the hotel close to the bar. We drank in the bar which was a little small for my liking and with 200 guests staying that evening was a little busy and understaffed. We ate in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and service albeit a little forgetful when more drinks were ordered, but this may be just because the hotel was busy.

Breakfast was a queue away from being great but again the hotel was busy....nonetheless a worthy four star rating, we will be back.
