“Immaculate rooms and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

One of the freindliest guest houses ever stayed at.... Central location, easy booking, immaculately clean and reasonably priced. Stayed here with family on the way to visit freinds and will definately book again and recommend to freinds.

Great for a night out with the girls or with family. The staff and food never disappoint good generous helpings nice and clean and good atmosphere doesn't feel like a hotel like some restaurants do. Very popular and good menu choice

I was down visiting friends in the town and chose the Stratton House, as the reviews were good and was recommended by a local.

The room I stayed in was well appointed, if a little cramped for my liking. The room was quite quiet considering that it overlooked the main junction. The shower room was good, but the water pressure of the shower itself left somewhat to be desired.

Breakfast was well cooked and satisfying and the staff most agreeable and friendly.

We stayed the nights of Dec 25 and 26, 2012. Room was spacious and clean. The windows are single glazed so there was a bit of street noise. Heating worked well.
Breakfast was tasty and generous although the coffee wasn't at all nice.
My only complaint was the lack of proper toiletries. A bottle of liquid soap stuck to the shower wall was all that was provided.
Had I known, I would have brought my own.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room not on the street.

We have had several lunches here over the last year - the most recent being in December. Two things stand out: the reliability of the food together with the excellence of the serving staff. Being near Xmas and not wanting the turkey we chose from the lighter bite menu. The steak and ale pie was delicious followed by an excellent lemon posset.

We visited the Stratton House Hotel again last week. It is always a treat to go there for Sunday lunch or an evening meal. We contacted them a couple of days beforehand and fortunately were able to book a table for two in the restaurant.

As usual, the food was served by friendly and efficient staff. We were very pleased with the quality of the food and we thought all their meals were very reasonably priced.

You are spoilt for choice with the menu and, as is usually the case, we opted for the roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. Their roast potatoes are scrumptious and the portions are very generous. For dessert, the syrup pudding and custard was delicious and went down a treat.

We have never been disappointed with the food or service and can recommend the Stratton House Hotel as an excellent venue for Sunday lunch or an evening meal.

We’ll be back!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We had lunch at the Stratton following very pleasant Sunday breakfast and beer festival visits.Unfortunately, lunch was not in the same league; the menu selection was somewhat "Toby Inn", nothing leaping out as unusual or even somewhat different, although the daily specials did boast Bass which my wife had and enjoyed greatly. Although the waiting staff were very pleasant and cheerful, there was an inordinate wait for our food (there was a large party on another table) even though there were sufficient waitresses to alleviate the problem. Our waitress didn't know what the soup of the day was, still managed to serve my starter with a clump of rocket even after I told her not to bother with it, there were no mussels available even though it was a Saturday and Biggleswade Market was open and Asda's round the corner, both of which sell mussels. My gammon was extremely bland in taste and over decorated with pineapple, but the chips had to be the best I've eaten in a long time. One thing that REALLY grates my gears is when you order a pint of beer and it arrives with a head larger than that of the Elephant Man and this happened twice, althogh the barmaid did top up the glass when I asked, albeit after several minutes standing at the bar.The price you pay for having staff in their formative years? A bit of a shake-up on the menu front, a more varied specials selection and some concentration by the waiting staff can only improve the place, which has the potential to be a lot better than it currently is.
