“Nice hotel in a one horse town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is a nice hotel. The breakfast is free with the room and well worth a pop down if you need to eat. Great amenities (free wi-fi, sauna, television, proximity to town, great coffee machine). The superior rooms have a view of the mountains but can be obscured by the other buildings in the way. Very clean. Nice staff.

Comfortable hotel. Good views from the restaurant. Had the buffet dinner in the restaurant. Good selection of food including seal and reindeer. Expensive at £40 a head. Had a snack the following day in the Barentz pub. Good pizza and endless coffee. Rooms were spacious and well decorated.

I know Norway is expensive place, I've been there for business trip a lot of time. But still, this hotel is just ridiculous in taking advantage of its location. The other hotels in Longyearbyen are not cheap either so I guess Radisson are just doing what the other hotels are doing too: taking advantage of tourists and limited availability of hotel rooms in Longyearbyen.

I stayed there only as a place to crash before my cruise trip around arctic. The hotel serves as the starting place for the trip so I thought it would be convenient to stay there. The room was fine but it wasn't worth the price (the bathroom did not even have proper toiletries). Don't expect much from the breakfast and there are few better place for meal in the city center.

So, what I recommend is try to avoid staying in Longyearbyen if you can.

I would recommend this hotel for travelers looking for a bit of extra comfort in this village which holds the title of the Town That is the Farthest Nirth of Any Town In The world. This is a comfortable hotel and the view from the dining room paints a pleasant backdrop for the start of the day.

Did not stay at the hotel (looked too boring compared to the Basecamp Trapper's Lodge) but had lunch at the Barentz Pub which was very pleasant. The food was much better than basic pub food and the atmosphere was great though the background music was a bit too loud

Ridiculously expensive and poor service. Having the 'captive audience' of weary cruise ship travelers camping out in your lobby for up to 8 hours waiting for a room does not add to the ambience of this place. Avoid the apartments if you are a couple as they offer a bunk bed bedroom & a fold out double bed couch which is as comfortable as one would expect. Breakfast good but the rest is poor. Most of the other hotels are similarly priced & strangely decored so it maybe the best of a bad bunch.

Well, Norway is expensive and Longyearbyen is a good example. Visitors here are typically for a day or two in between a flight and a cruise so the hotels can really charge what they want as there is no option. So even though we paid a lot for a room here we felt we did OK. We ended up with a room in "the apartments", maybe because we paid top-dollar, and it was very nice. The room was large, with a desk and a couch. There are also rooms in what appear to be regular hotel rooms. Bring an eye mask as the curtains kept out about half the light and since the sun is up 24 hrs in summer here the room was always pretty bright. They have a lounge / bar that offered pub-type lunch and supper. The breakfast buffet was fabulous.

While here, definitely visit the excellent museum, and take a walk down the road to the dog sled pens. They offer dog sled rides on wheeled vehicles which we did not do but they looked like a blast.

Room Tip: The instant you confirm a cruise or any other visit to Longyearbyen, get a room lined up.
