“Seal Skin Seats”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

We had a private dining room, which was astoundingly furnished with seal skins and it made the environment really cosy. Held within a little glass house, we had views of the streets of Svalbard, which added the rustic touch to the atmosphere we were dining in.

Service was attentive and I really enjoyed the food that was served, which is really just bar food done up nicely, but it was altogether quite comforting, especially in the far north!

“Nice play to eat”

The food is ok, maybe not outstanding. WIFI access is for free. Staff is friendly but not very attentive.

“Recommended!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013 via mobile

A great place with lovely interior showing Svalbard's history and culture. Possibly the best pizza I've ever eaten. The prices are alright, too.
On the downside, their garlic dressing was basically mayo so they loose cookie points there.
Overall great food and atmosphere and I would recommend it to everyone.

“So-so service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

The atmosphere here tries to pay homage to Svalbard's history so there are exposed wood beams and a lot of animal skins hanging in the restaurant. However, it's also quite unappetizing to eat with a mounted deer skull above your table. Our table in particular had an enormous painting of a bloody polar bear shot by a hunter. I understand that certain foods are part of Norweigian culture but it's still a shame to see any sort of whale or seal on the menu.

The menu itself had rather few options. 2 of us chose the soya + beer marinated chicken sandwich with chips. The chips were fresh, but the chicken breast was a little dry/tough. I've had better & I've had worse. The third person in our group had king crab, but for the expensive price, only received two legs. There is a changing fish of the day, soup of the day & slow-cooked meal of the day. This was the first restaurant (out of many so far) that did not serve complimentary bread.

Service was slow and 8 out of 10 times we had to flag down a server for more water, or dessert, or SOMETHING. Most walked right by us too. The restaurant is expensive by our American standards, but the steep prices are typical for Norway. Also, I'd recommend a reservation any day of the week.
