“A restaurant steadily improving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

Kroa is one of the best restaurants in Longyearbyen and on the rise foodwise. Perhaps more like a pub than a restaurant though. This time when I was there we had pizza which was quite tasty. From before I knew that beef and chips/baked potato is a dish they do really well. But the last years they have also worked on more local dishes with ingredients like seal and arctic char. Usually they have a "today's meal" which is with a local twist.

Kroa is the place to meet other people in Longyearbyen especially if you are a student or doing research. The atmosphere is relaxed with polite and friendly waiters.

I was in doubt whether they deserved a four or a three - but since they have steadily improved both food and service during the times I have been there, I'll give them four this time :-)

“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

Great atmosphere and excellent food. Look out for the Lenin bust behind the bar and the pictures of Marx and Engels, remainders of the Russian past. Simple food at lunch time (when it is a family place) and more elaborate stuff at night

“Variation on a Norwegian theme”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

Arctic Char and raindeer. Adequate service with a rustic environment. Good value for money, so therefore definitely worth a visit.

“Surprise in the Far North”

A surprisingly tasty and wonderful meal in such a "far off place." Good food and warm and appropriate atmosphere.

“Lovely food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Had a fab evening here in a wonderful wooden lodge setting with great food and perfect service.
Book early as it does get very very busy in the evenings. It's expensive, but not excessively so compared to other options. Highly recommend the pizza (especially since this is the only vegetarian option)!
If such things are important to you, it's worth noting that whale meat is on the menu here.
