“Very nice holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

A beautiful sea view place, in a quiet village located a few km from main town Tinos. Apartments are well furnished, in perfect conditions.; the manager has proved very friendly and helpful for all the needs we had. I suggest to have a car or a motorbike in order to have the opportunity to visit all the beautiful villages and beaches of the island. Very nice!!!

The location is about 6 Km from town, in a very quiet place only 5 min walk from a beautiful beach, with very clean water. The apartments are well furnished, clean and with a beautiful sea view from the terrace. The hotel also offers a nice restaurant and good food. The manager is a very pleasant person and you can ask him every thing you need, including information about the island, beaches, restaurants, etc... I suggest to rent a car or mortorbike in order to visit all the island beaches (someone is 25 km far) and the villages (about 40...) that are very interesting and different. Don't miss Tinos island !

My wife and I have spent our the last 12 summer holidays in the Greek islands (we live in Brussels). We usually take 3-to-4 weeks off and try to cover 2-3 islands. In some cases we have just spent a month between just 2. We have been to islands in all the main clusters: the Argo-Saronic, the Cyclades, the North Aegean islands, the Dodecanese, Ionian Islands, and islands the Peloponnese Peninsula. We have been to 20+ islands. This summer (the summer of 2011) we are doing a first: repeating an island, Tinos. We spent last summer here, and the reason is the Porto Raphael Hotel. We have never come across a more hospitable, more relaxed, more "consumer friendly" family run hotel than Porto Raphael. The Desypris family which runs it can never seem to do enough for you to make your stay perfect. We stayed in 2 different flats last year: a beautifully outfitted one room accommodation, and then a larger 1-bedroom flat with the most magnificent view of the sea, with Mykynos in the distance (where we spent an additional week). We had numerous food options. My wife loves to cook so we took full advantage of the kitchen in the larger flat. But the Desypris family also runs one of the best restaurants/tavernas on the island which is part of Porto Raphael. The menu is quite extensive with daily specials and the treats prepared by the family matriarch were mouth watering. And the eggplant concoctions she creates are fabulous. Nevermind the best moussaka we have ever had on any island. Yes, perhaps I am waxing lyrical but the food is great. And there is a wide selection of other restaurants and taverans in the area. So that, plus gorgeous views, a stunning garden on which all the room overlook, a beach a stone's throw from the hotel (where the beach taverna delivers your beer to your lounge area in a chilled wine cooler and 2 glasses, all for 8 euros) and
we were in heaven. Mykonos and Syros are a short hop away by ferry, and the island of Tinos has a wide range of sites and spots to see. It is also a major religious center (a simple Google search will give you the scoop) and there are tons of clothing, jewelry, cermics, etc. shops to choose from. For a totally relaxing holiday I simply cannot recommend a better place.

Room Tip: When you book, ask for a sea view. There are a string of rooms on the 2nd floor with great views bu...

We absolutely loved our stay at Porto Raphael this past June. The grounds were lovely and immaculate, and our upstairs apartment was beautifully designed and absolutely spotless. The whole place had a very relaxing vibe and a great balance between friendliness and privacy.

Owners (and brothers) Ioulianos and Isidoros could not have been more helpful to us, accommodating our 10:30pm arrival, and their taverna is excellent. It has a lovely view of the sea, and the food is delicious! The grilled wild artichokes are a must, as is the artichoke omelet (wild artichokes are local to Tinos). Tinos is known as an island for "foodies" so definitely ask Ioulianos to recommend his favorite restaurants to you - we went to all of them, and they were all fantastic (Bourou, Thalassaki, Metaxi Mas, Perivoli, Koutouki tis Elenis).

The hotel is conveniently located away from the bustle of Tinos Town (which isn't a big city, but still has the most activity and noise on this peaceful island) and we enjoyed the location. We had a car (I highly recommend Vidalis Rentals, another incredibly helpful family-run service), so we went out exploring the island each day. Getting back to the hotel each afternoon/evening was easy, and it was so nice to come home to our freshly cleaned room. We enjoyed having a kitchenette, which we used to make our own breakfast each day. (There is a very good supermarket called Cash & Carry not far from the hotel just outside Tinos Town, and since it's not a large island, we were amazed by the quality and selection at this store.)

The sitting room and bedroom of our suite even had candles, which was my lighting preference at night because the energy-saving bulbs they use are too bright for me. The bathroom used different bulbs, though, a lot softer and warmer. (I'm weird about light.)

Our only mistake was staying only 5 days on this stunning island - we would love to stay on Tinos much longer next time and would definitely book the wonderful Porto Raphael again!

Room Tip: Our upstairs apt. (#25) was very quiet with a nice view of the sea.

Myself, my brother and my boyfriend stayed at this amazing place after a hectic encounter with Santorini and to our relief it was everything we were looking for in a real holiday. Everything was easy, with a smile and we didn't even have to worry about getting to the hotel, which is a little way out of the port, as one of the owners kindly offered to come in a pick us up. The hotel offers all meals, so if we slept in, or got back late, breakfast and dinner were always options. They also advised us to hire a car, A MUST DO! In order to see the island... each village was unique and quaint. Jullianos was the main person who took care of us and he was great. This is book marked for sure for a future holiday.

You instinctively know that your stay at the Porto Raphael Hotel will be exceptional as soon as you arrive when you see the smiling face of the charming Ioulianos. Together with his brother, Isidoros they provide the most amazing experience in the most beautiful location. The appartments are immaculately clean (thanks to Marianna) the decor just perfect and the views are to die for. From our room, we stayed in room number 45, we could see Naxos, Paros and Mykonos. As you sit on the balcony you can also see fantastic palm trees, a perfectly planted garden, a small beach and of course the sea. At night I slept like a baby due to the up to date window glazing. We did not want for anything, nothing was too much trouble and even when it came down to booking flights to return to the UK Ioulianos took care of that without any fuss or bother. You definitely need to hire a car here but the hire charges are extremely reasonable and the roads are easy to use. Tinos itself is absolutely stunning with the most magnificent coast line. We had to cut short our trip to Tinos this time but we will definitely be back soon. I have scored the Porto Raphael Hotel 10 out of 10 for all the catagories because that is what it is, 10 out of 10.

We found this hotel on internet in 2008 ... and already went 3 times there for hollidays.
Why ? Location : you can walk to the beach in 5 mns, or go to walk in mountains as easier.
Rooms-apartment-studio : so nice, cosy and very clean + pratical as you have a room + kitchen + balcomy with table ... where you can admire the view or check your emails as they have the internet wireless.
Family-welcoming : Julianos did welcome us so nicely and that's just great (espacially after a quite long trip from switzerland to Tinos by car + ferry).
Food : it's quite rarte in Greece (lol) to find good and warm food ... or a bit different from greek salad + moussaka ... so go there ! You'll enjoy the view from the terrasse and in the plates ...
we did go there in june and this time in april, because we appreciate the nature and quiet ... so if you prefer to go out to dance and meet ppl, just choose july or august ;-)
Try it, you wont regret : Porto Raphael is a lovely place !

Room Tip: Avoid easter or 15.08 ;-)))
