“Honest Feedback”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Very well maintained, friendly staff, interesting to walk around. Cheap at €6 pp. It was quiet when we went in July 13 . 2 short videos at the beginning of the self guided tour (unless you wanted to pay for a tour guide). Also the option to rent headphones. Was meant to shut at 2pm but was open till later.

First of all thank you for visiting the Cretan open-air museum ''LYCHNOSTATIS'' and posting your review.
Actually the museum is open from Sunday to Friday, morning hours (9am - 2pm). On Saturdays the museum is normally closed. July 13 was Saturday. Probably, you visited the museum another day or a week before, on Saturday 6, when a group visit was scheduled at 3pm, so the museum was open and quiet.
In any case, we are glad you had the chance to visit the museum and thank you once again for your kind words.

“a great insight into Crete of the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

the only downside was that you had to pay extra for headphones in English to use on the tour - if you don't get them it is hard to understand what each area is about as all the signage and info was in Greek.

First of all thank you for visiting the Cretan open-air museum ''LYCHNOSTATIS'' and for using the audio-guide service.
Actually, in our museum we welcome visitors all around the world and we try all of them to have equal access to the museum experience. So, according to our visitors’ service, we provide leaflets with information about the museum in seventeen languages, including English of course, without any extra charge. More specifically, we give each visitor a detailed map of the museum along with a leaflet with the translations of the Greek inscriptions and rhymes that they come across during their tour. So, the foreign visitor has exactly the same information as the local.
Furthermore, as you mentioned, there are additional services available for the guest who‘d like to have more information about Cretan traditions & culture, such as audio-guides, films or guided tours for just 1 euro each.
Thank you, once again, for posting your review in the TripAdvisor page. Hope we see you again back in the museum!

“Very good for all Ages”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

It was one of those days were we felt we wanted to do something but not go too far away from the place where we were staying and still something that is interesting for everyone. So we chose this museum which we heard about before we went to Crete. It's a very good museum. It's 6€ in for adults and a bit less for children. When we entered there was nobody at the cashier place but once we started our own tour someone came quickly after us. The place is really lovely in terms of seeing how people used to live, you can touch everything etc. I can't fault it and everyone in my family enjoyed it. In fact my hubby who would be least interested in museums was the first who said he wanted to stay a bit longer. The only thing to bare in mind: most of it is open air so don't forget to bring you sun hat and water!

Thank you for visiting the Cretan open-air museum ''LYCHNOSTATIS'' and for posting your review in the TripAdvisor page. We are glad that you knew about the museum before visiting it. One of our aims is to create a welcoming environment for visitors. We would like to apologize for the absence of our staff at the front door. That was, probably, because she was providing service for some other guests in the nearby video-room.
Also, because the weather in Crete is usually sunny and warm, we have specially designated various areas with plenty of shade, so that visitors can take a break during their visit. For example, our fruit-tree garden gives this chance and also the café, where we offer to our visitors refreshing local beverages like cinnamon or almond drink.
Additionally, the Museum is located by the sea-side and it’s always nice to sit under the big tamarisk trees and enjoy the sea.
Last but not least, the entrance fee for children is at half price the adults’ fee.
Hope we see you again back in the museum!

“like great grandparents' home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

It's like visiting your great grandfather's home and workshop. A pleasant idea for one holiday morning, nice and interactive for children too. There was a polite lady to welcome us and introduce all with perfect English and some Czech phrases too! :) Don't expect any big historical value, just nostalgic memory about past decades in Greece. I liked the photo exhibition. You realize how hard life used to be for previous generations!
And there is a café and a nice small beach with a shower and changing room so you can take your swimsuit with you.

Thank you for visiting the Cretan open-air museum ''LYCHNOSTATIS'' and for posting your review in the TripAdvisor page. One of the aims of the museum is to make exhibitions interactive with people of all ages, so we are glad you liked that.
Our museum is not an archaeological museum, so one could say that there aren’t many things of great historical value. Indeed, our museum presents the recent heritage (19th – early 20th century) and aims to help visitors to re-live the Cretan traditions, feel the Cretan culture (this “nostalgic memory” you quote), and probably to be taught by the wisdom of the ancestors.

Hope we see you again back in our museum!
