Owner description: Aquaworld - Crete's first Aquarium - opened in Hersonissos in 1995. It features local sea life and reptiles from Crete and from all around the world. Most of the animals are rescued or are unwanted pets which have found a new home at Aquaworld. Our philosophy is simple - bring people and animals closer together and, inevitably, people will begin to respect and care more about the animals!

“such a small place, such a big experiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

at first, i was a little disapointed. what can a small place like this offer, very soon i changed my mind' when the amazing cupple "disturb" us. every fish or animal had its own storey, which was told in such nice way, and if i thought the visit will take a few minutes, i was mistaken, i didn't want to leave. i never came so close to sneaks, and this visit showed that they don't only bite and leave. to hold them and not to be scared? i didn't think i could. but yes' i did it tanks to the cupple. i recommend every one to visit, but here is a warning. don't just go there and take pictures just to say "i have been there", to to khe cupple, you'll see you'll never want to leave/

“Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

What a fab couple who run this place! There were lovely tanks with well labelled fish, a large giant tblind turtle and for me, the best thing, snakes, loads of them and you get to handle them, although I gave up when John got the 48Kilo one out! There was a giant tortoise, dont get in the way unless you want to be trampled! You have to go and see it for yourself, its small, charming and you will get a friendly welcome, 6 Euros for unlimited visits.

“Well worth a visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Although this is a rather small establishment it's well worth a visit if your in the area.It calls itself an aquarium but there are also snakes and large reptiles all of which have been donated or rescued within Greece.visitors get the chance to get up close to these beautiful creatures and to see them being fed by the owners.

“Enjoyable couple of hours....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Really worthwhile diversion if you're interested in this sort of thing....loads to see. As always with such places, they concentrate on the "glamour" fish but you could actually learn about the sealife you see when snorkelling. Very good value and it's run as an educational and research institution primarily. We hired a car so found it easily, but the bus service along the coast road appeared to be efficient and was recommended by other travellers.
