This is a late review of our holiday at the end of August this year.
The bad bits:
On arrival to the apartments it was 4am which is the usual for the flights we were told. There was a note on the door telling us where to go and which apartment number, but no map of the resort? It was pitch black dark and we had to approach near to each numbered apartment to see if we were getting closer. 20 minutes later we found our apartment tucked in a corner. First impressions, grim indeed!
A major burn hole in the living room curtain greeted us, a ripped to shreds shower curtain, no soaps etc, 1 bog roll (which is all we ever got for 2 weeks). bits missing from the curtain rails and generally basic and unclean. Basic kitchen, no kettle? Had to use a pan, No hair dryer.
More or less the exact opposite of what had been listed in the advertising! It was everything but.
We have stayed in Sri lanka and other 3rd world type countries, and I'll this place did show at first glance in bad light indeed compared.
Later that day (in daylight), we were ushered to the pool bar to pay for the air con and safe, both which I am not used to paying extra for and for 2 weeks knocked me back for over 100 euros?
They replaced the curtain in the lounge, we never saw a new shower curtain. Adding to this we hardly over the 2 weeks experienced any hot water.
A 'special' barbecue night was £15 each and it was crap really, I've done better in my own garden!
The staff: Silvia was nice yet money grabbing, Jahnny (Greek John) the bar man was a nice bloke. Silvia's sister seemed to be something else, one minute seething and angry looking, ignorant and blanking and then bursting out laughing at the sky or something next? weird indeed!
The pool was nice, it was quiet.
The surrounding areas are beautiful and Crete itself fabulous, nice scenery, hot weather, lovely locals etc. Old Hersonisos and Koutouloufari village were our regular haunts and we stayed out til past 4am most nights with the locals friends we made on holiday. We would definitely visit Crete again, may go back next year, but will find a self catering apartment which hopefully fits the description.
Silvia's place would be great if it were maintained properly and the staff were as consistent as the money grabbing!
