3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2009

We have been at Mediterraneo hotel Crete for 4 nights at April 2009 on the basis of "all inclusive". The hotel location is not near to anything and you must rent a car to tour Crete. However, I believe it's so for any hotel in Crete.
The sea view from room was nice, but we have to use the elevator and then to climb about 50 difficult steps to get to our room. The room was big and nice but with only basic decoration, hard beds and without any luxury. We faced many maintenance problems in the room. We could not close well the shower door. Sewage problems and hot water were not always available.
The food was fine but not more than that. Since the hotel was in its full capacity, the availability of the food was somehow problematic. It was too cold to sit outside and to eat near the swimming pool so there was a problem of lack of sits in the dining room. Only in one night of four the hotel supplied some entertainment (a singer). The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The bottom line is that the Mediterraneo hotel can be a reasonable price station for touring Crete, but it can be a place for long staying vacation in the hotel itself. This is especially true for the colder months of the year when the swimming pool is useless.

We've been in October in mediterraneo hotel for a short stay, (4 days) and we had great time. Everything was nice, the weather, the hotel, the food and most of all the service and the friendly personnel.
We love island of Crete and we definately we will return.

An excellent stay at Mediterraneo for seven days. The room had been
amazing - very modern decoration and an amazing view of the ocean.I
must say its been a pleasure staying there - i consider this to be
one of the best hotels in the area. The new pool bar is great and the
staff is always trying to satisfy everyone. The aquarium at the
restaurant is brilliant and the food delicious. Hard to find an all
inclusive resort with such a variety and quality. The masage -
fitness room is relaxing and one should try it since its an exclusive
service - you have to pay extra for massage though! From what i read
in other reviews yes you get better prices for renting a car or
playing at the golf course or visiting water parks etc. I will
recommend this resort to everyone without second thought!

Mediterraneo Hotel is a really nice place for a few days of relaxation and fun. We stayed for 4 days only. When we arrived from Israel early in the morning we had to wait for a few minutes to get our room but when we got it we were compensated by the fantastic view of the balcony to the ocean. We had air condition working perfect since it was 32 degrees outside. The food had been nice with many salads and fruits. We also rent a car from the hotel to exprlore the area. We travelled to Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion. We visited a water park nearby. The water park opposite the hotel has free entrance. There are other water parks around where you have to pay to enter.
People working at this hotel are really friendly and close to our prespectives. The nights that they organized greek dancing were nice since greek music is very close to israeli music. We had a really nice time. After all what you are looking for is some nice people and some enjoyable time to spend your holidays.

Just arrived back from a 14 day stay at this hotel. The place itself was nice; very clean, modern with attentive staff. We had a teenager in tow and were given a junior suite which was near the main body of the hotel (it has recently been extended and some rooms are quite distance away from the reception, bars, pools, etc) which was a blessing! The room was spacious, modern and more than adequate. We were made aware the air con and fridge were additional charges, so no suprises, but thought this should be included as this is not a cheap place to stay! Food was good, quite varied but repetitive, not a wide selection of drinks but again, we were aware of what was on offer before we booked. You get very basic snacks between lunch and dinner (just rolls and sandwiches) and at 5pm they serve cakes (usually small biscuits and pastries). There is nothing really at this hotel for kids, I wouldn`t recommend it for families. Our teenager was bored initially, even though he is sporty and there is a great tennis court, football pitch, volleyball court and gym on site. He only started enjoying himself when he met up with other Brit kids and there were no that many British holidaymakers in residence. This hotel is very popular with all nationalities but is mainly dominated by Germans and Dutch, as is most parts of Hersonissos. In high season you get entertainment at night twice a week. Bars close at 11pm and it is a 10 minute walk to Hersonissos town, where there are lots of bars with cheap drinks, but be warned it is full of young adults and can get quite rowdy. Stalis is a 20/30 minute walk up the hill and there are a lot more British in this resort, it has a lovely beach and good bars. You can get a taxi from reception to go anywhere, but make sure you agree a price before your journey and don`t be afraid to barter! Stalis is a 5 minute car journey and they wanted €10, we haggled to €5. The beach "opposite" the hotel is a small cove, nice, but can only be accessed by walking down towards town for 10 mins then crossing under a low level road bridge, so don`t be fooled into thinking you only have to cross over the road in front of the hotel to get there...If you want to do excursions, look in the town first as the prices at some of the shops were far more competitive than the rep! The Water Park is a good day out, but not that big and food is expensive, try and take your own. If you go out for the day, you can ask at reception for a packed lunch (this is not much, just a sandwich and drink) but you need to let them know the day before. There are 2 pools at this hotel, both a good size with plenty of beds and each with a bar. We preferred the 2nd pool, which was separated from the main hotel by the driveway. It never seemed as busy as the other and had a great view of the sea with a lovely, constant breeze, which you welcome when it is 32 degrees! We had a good holiday here, but mainly because we met some lovely people and could entertain ourselves. I don`t think I would rate this a 4 star hotel, as other reviewers have said, compared to Spain, Turkey & the Caribean you get far less for your money, however, I cannot fault the cleanliness and service and we were made aware of what to expect before we booked. it was a good experience, but one I don`t think we would repeat, especially with a kid in tow....

  • Liked — Cleanliness, Service & proximity to town
  • Disliked — The hotel was boring! Nothing to entertain guests or kids during day or at night

mediterraneo is for sure a great accomodation and i cant understand some bad reviews here. i enjoyed every minute of it and will repeat it next year since....satisfaction is guaranteed.

the location is good not far from the beach - 5 min alking dist.the staff is friendly and great sense of humour for some of them. we did become friends with 2 waiters. not easy to have a personalized service at a 4 star hotel.we liked everything else - the food the pools the bars the weather - everything. a taxi drive to the city is 6 euro. its worth it since hersonissos is really lively and has great shopping. all in all we had a great time and i recommend it to everyone. for sure.
