One thing I have come to learn from this holiday is that most English people want to stay in a perfect 5* hotel with no faults but arnt prepared to pay for it so instead complain about everything and ruin their own holiday and everyone elses who has to listen!!
I am the kind of English person who goes on holiday to have a brill time what ever happens so here is an honest review of all the good and bad bits of this hotel so you can make a decision as to whether this holiday is for you or not.
Food- massive food area lots of choice every day and the buffet changes daily. There is a kids buffet but to be honest unless your children eat chicken or beef there isnt a great selection for them. You have lots of pasta on each evening and chips and oranges and melon, soup which changes daily and is nice. Go early for your evening meal when you get the best selection as they dont replenish everything. All in all a typical foreign buffet but with a lot more choice than most places. Is ok for a week but for 2 week you just want a macdonalds!!
Rooms- Very basic but very clean. No shower curtains or bath plugs but we managed showers without getting floor wet even with kids and used soap for bath plug which worked a treat! Beds made every day clean towels every day and floor swept and mopped every day and bathroom cleaned most days. Our only complaint was noisy neighbours as we had an adjoining room but as we only had one room a german family moved in next door and as it was adjoining you could hear everything they said! We just moved the beds around though to face the other wall which was much better!
Pools- 2 massive swimming pools with lots of sunbeds, a kids pool which is also big with lots of baby slides in the middle and also a slide pool. The kids never got bored of swimming of the slides! The only let down was that they were all salt water pools as the chlorine one wasnt filled up! Also go down to reserve sunbeds before 9.30am as they all get snapped up quick!
Staff- a lot didnt understand english but were helpful and worked very hard especially the ones in the dining room. They had the same staff on every day over our 2 week stay morning, noon and night without days off! The reception staff were pleasant if you were pleasant to them. If you went up screaming and shouting well then they would scream and shout back and then just ignore you and carry on serving other people which I witnessed on a few occasions! Good on em I say! I think that they could embrace a bit more of the english customer service skills i.e nothing is too much trouble but unless you go on a cruise or pay a hell of a lot of money to stay somehwhere abroad they are all the same!
Kids club/animation- the animation team did a water aerobics each morning at 11am which was really fun they then followed that with dancing in the water to their dance moves which everyone joined in on and especially the kids loved. they are very basic dance moves but it is ment for a bit of fun! there was a kids club run each day but was in a building out of the way instead of doing games around the pool but there was a mini disco at 5pm which was around the pool! The biggest let down was that there was no evening entertainment!! they have lots of space and people but just leave you to your own devices which means early nights all round!! Thank god for the kids play area thats all I can say!
amenities- there is a shuttle service to and from the beach every day at 10, 12, 2 and 6pm. When you get down there you have to visit star beach which is a free water park!! It has a number of pools inc a kids one, lazy river and lots of slides which are 8euro for the day. also lots of shops, water sports, beach, its just fab!! You cant take food or drink in but as long as you hide it in your bag no one checks! There is also horse riding on the beach which is 20 euro pp for 1 hr. We did that and was great! There is a massive water park called water City near by which is 30 euro for ad and 20 for ch inc transport from your hotel. There is an aquarium which if you get a taxi there is about 20 euro e/w and 8 euro pp entry. There is a shop at the hotel which sells 2 litre bottles of water for 60 cents and swimwear snacks, magazines and books in english!! There are a number of shops if you turn left where the shuttle drops you off and a supermarket by the horse riding center. Also there were lots of boat trips for decent prices so we found that we never got bored!! The hotel was nicely out of the way from all the noise from star beach in the evening but close enough to not be an inconvience! We were staying in a room at the back which was a 5 min walk away up a big hill! Just incase you have anyone with disabilities to make that clear up on booking!

Awful hotel, never a 3* plus, more like a 2* and that's being generous. The only good point's were the pool, which the kids loved and the Thomas cook rep, who i felt sorry for as all she did was listen to people complaining about the hotel. Why was it so bad ? first the food was the same for breakfast, dinner and evening meal, kids lived on chips and bread. The service was terrible, not enough staff, we spent time everyday clearing tables and cleaning away plates so we could sit down and eat. The air conditioning did not work all week and it never got fixed. The variety of drinks was the worst i have ever had, i have a better selection in my fridge at home, and when the beer keg is empty, you have to wait anything up to an1 hour for a new one to be connected. There's no bottled water available, ice cream is only available in the restaurant at dinner, I'm a easy going guy but this hotel really is as bad as i'm saying, do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.

We were very disappointed with this hotel. We were expecting 4 star quality and we got low end 3 star quality at best. If you have low expectations then this hotel does have facilities, but that is about it. So why were we so disappointed, well here is list of the reasons:
- All Inclusive means all inclusive, but the Eri Sun was half board, with some very limited free drinks, that you could only get at certain times
- Plates were not cleared away once finished with and you often had to eat your main and then pudding with a stack of used plates piling up on the table
- The staff were over worked and therfore unable to be attentive
- Reception staff were rude, not remembering us when we came back 10 minutes later
- The room had a shower but no shower curtain
- Our son's room had broken aircon, bedside cabinet and wardrobe, oh and no shower curtain
- No pool towels were provided
- The pool side was very slippery and dangrous and we saw many people slip and several fall.
- The plastic run off guttering around the pool was old and fragile. My oldest son put his foot through it when diving into the pool, cutting his foot in several places
- The website says three pools, but one is not open laying dorment, full of stagnant water
- The food was pretty much the same every night, the only fruit was melon and many dishes were 'cooked in a vat' type of conconcotions
- Reception wouldn't even change Cents for a Euro
- Meal times were always a bun fight, as there wasn't enough tables for everyone and food often ran out before the end of the session
- Drinks were self serve and limited. If you dont want wine, larger, fizzy drinks or ouzo forget it, it will cost.
- When we wanted to extend the room, we had to move to another room (ie we had to pack twice),which was infested with flies and ants. Oh and in this room the shower hose didn't reach the bracket on the wall!!!
- Reception wouldn't mail post cards
- The tennis courts were in a bad state of repair and equipment was shoddy. The same goes for the crazy golf putters
- There was an animation team, but we never saw them. They only did kids club and there was no entertainment in the evening, dispite having an amphitheatre
- One end of the restaurant terrace overlooked the rubbish bins, which could also be smelt
- The sound on the TV was out of synch with the picture by about 5 seconds on all channels
Finally, it's a long walk from the hotel to the town/beach, with a steep uphill climb back. Not a walk for the elderly or those with young children/buggies.
We definatly will never be going back.

We went on our first holiday to the Greek Islands as it was somewhere we had always wanted to go. The pictures of the hotel looked nice in the Thomas Cook brochure. The hotel is okay but the slog up and down the hill each day was very repetative after the first day. The photos in the brochure did not show this as they where ariel shots. It said the beach was 800m away from the sea, yeh okay!!! it was alot further. We hired a car for 3 days to get away from the one resort.
The restaurant was clean but with patio doors left open there was a problem with Wasps and Flies. The other big problem was the amount of Russian tourists who barge past lines to get to the front and hog the pool. Go to the beaches it is better to get away from them.
The bathrooms in the hotel where small and smelly and not to the best standard of cleanliness either. A couple where there with their disabled daughter and where put right at the top of the hill, when they asked the manager refused to move them. The staff are okay, but generally I found them rude, especially the Barman at the Poolside bar.
There was no entertainment apart from the Greek night on the Monday. This was a local dance group who would only get the young girls up to dance with them and most people commented how they seemed to slime over them.
The area around the hotel was strewn with litter and part of it seemed to be a rubbish tip. We enjoyed our holiday because we didnt stay in the hotel through the day as we travelled around the Island. If you want a good beach get a hire car and do a 45 min drive to Elouda.

We too were very worried after booking this hotel without reading Tripadvisor reports. But it just goes to show what this site is all about! This is a 3 star hotel, not 4 star. Yes it's on a hillside, so don't book if you struggle to walk up fairly steep hills, yes its full of Eastern Europeans - but no problem, yes there is no entertainment - day and night (the Animation team consisted of splashing and dancing around the pool for half an hour in the morning and nothing else! No games/volleyball/waterpolo etc) and I agree the staff can be a bit offish. But you can not moan about the selection and quality of food, the place was kept spotless, the rooms were cleaned daily, sheets and towels changed daily too. The pool area is great for kids from toddlers to teens, (a shame some Northern English parents cant control their kids, letting them drink, verbal the slide attendant and encouraging them to jump from one level of the pool area to a lower level!) slides are excellent fun. There is only beer/ouzo/raki/brandy/wine soft drinks so take your own Vodka spirits etc, they dont mind you drinking your own at night around the pool bar. Also take a pack of cards! Stalis beach is lovely, proper sandy beach, 5 mins or so in a taxi, they will take 5 passengers too, €10 each way, sunbeds were €4 for 2 and a parasol, beer was €2 a pint at the beach bars.

We hadn't previously checked with Trip Advisor prior to travelling on holiday as have always trusted our Travel Agent but on this occasion our teenage daughter looked the hotel up which led to a great deal of apprehension prior to the holiday due to the poor reviews. As always we went with an open mind thoroughly intending to enjoy our holiday rather than pick faults. The hotel complex is on a hillside with a steep walk up to it from the main drag which you do eventually get use to. Nearby Hersonissos Town is lively and far more stylish than Malia. Star Beach which is directly at the bottom of the hill from the hotel is very lively with a good atmosphere, although fairly expensive. The hotel guests were largely Eastern Europeans which seems to be coming the norm across Greece. Although we had no issues with them, they clearly haden't mastered the art of queuing and we found it was easier to sit back around meal times and specifically afternoon cake at the pool bar and let them descend like a plague of locusts. Once they'd grabbed all they could as if their lives depended on it there was always plenty more food brought out for everyone to enjoy. We found it often paid to go to the restaurant a little later when you didn't have to fight for a table and the choice of food was still the same. The food was generally very good and was served hot. There was plenty of choice and for anyone who's diet exceeds chicken nuggets, which incidentally I was told weren't very nice, there was something for eveyone. The drinks were limited to self service local beer, wine which wasn't great and raki, ouzo and Brandy and soft drinks. Entertainment is virtually non existent although the pool bar is open until 11 and is quite lively. We took quite a few trips into Town at night. Both pools are large and clean and you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to find a free lounger. The music around the main pool can be repetitive. On the whole a good holiday. If you go with an open mind and not just to pick faults and moan you will have comfortable stay! We travelled with two teenagers who both had a great time!
