“Friendly, Beautiful, Stunning.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

Me and my girlfriend recently spent two weeks at Palatia Village in Hersonissos, for the price we paid it was safe to say we did not have the highest expectations of the hotel. Oh how wrong we were! We arrived late at night and where met by a welcoming George (the owner) with a very welcome complimentary drink. The studio apartment was very clean and minimal, which is exactly what we wanted. I only have one slight gripe about the room itself. The shower was not of the highest standard and the floor often flooded, although with the scorching heat beaming through the window, it cleared up in no time.
The swimming pool is one of the most clean and picturesque pools I have seen, including stays in 5* hotels. The sunbed, bar and pool area were absolutely spotless and I can not praise the staff highly enough. Yes there are a few wild cats that wander around the hotel, but they stay out of your way and most are even friendly (or brave) enough to come and let you stroke or feed them.
Food in the hotel is priced reasonably although we chose to venture out and try the local bars and restaurants which themselves are very reasonably priced.
The location is fantastic also. A 5 minute walk down the hill and you are in the main street of Hersonissos, just 10 minute walk from the sea. The town is thriving with shops and restaurants and all have very competitive prices. The strip is friendly and not seedy as some I have previously been to have been.
A quick trip in the opposite direction up the hill leads you to the 'Old Town' which is a must see. a very traditional and beautiful spot high in the mountain. the tavernas are traditional to the point that you may be excused for thinking you had been transported back in time. The food is also more authentic and similarly priced.
The Cretan people also could not be friendly. Always smiling and not creepy or pressurizing.

All in all it is hard to fault the quality, cleanliness, location, and visual beauty of Palatia Village, and I dare say that my girlfriend and I will be returning next year hopefully for a similarly fantastic experience.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to have fantastic views of either the ocean down the hill or picturesque mountain v...

Thes apts are a very good standard when Marie took us to our room 22 we were pleasantly suprised at the view i suppose you would call it a distant sea view overlooking the bay.
you dont get a toaster or a microwave and initially we had no kettle but that was soon sorted for us. The air con is 8 euros a day pretty much a std for a greek island we didnt need it in the day time as being at the top we tended to get a nice through breeze, we had a studio which to say the least was big rwin beds large w/drobe 2 sofas table and chairs and of course a balcony the bonus was a bath and shower. The location could be a struggle unless you are fit or prepared to use taxis its about 15 mins walk downhill to the harbour and 20 mins walk up to the old town not forgetting Pislpiano which is about 25 mins walk to get here turn right out of the apts downhil 200 yds and right again this doubles back behind your apartment its a bit of a treck but worth it for a visit to David Vegra Restarant. Pool and ground are kept beautifully and the rooms are cleaned every other day, not a lot in the way of entetainment but the BBQ nights ok at 10 euros.
The only negative i would say the drinks are a bit pricey at the bar 4 euros for a large beer and you dont get happy hour her. The owners are most fiendly and if we visit Hersonissos again this woud be top of my list

Room Tip: room 22 and 25 have a bay view

Just got back from a fantastic stay with George, Marie, family and Rocky, Palatia village is a great place to stay just a 5-10min walk from the main road, and town centre, rooms are clean and everything you need is there, we stayed self catering and cooked a few times in the apartment there is a Spa shop just to the right on the main road. George puts on a Greek BBQ night on a regular basis and gets everyone that is staying to mingle and chat which adds to the atmosphere along with the homemade Rakki George shares with everyone There is a few cats (like there is everywhere in Greece) but we loved them and even adopted a kitten whilst we was there!! The beaches are only small in Hersonissos so we caught the bus to Mailia which only costs €3.20 for both of us I would recommend Dolphin beach bar.
Old town Herronosis is a short walk to the left up the hill its well worth a visit especially on a Monday or Thursday when they do a traditional Greek night including dancing and music.
I would highly recommend Palatia village to anyone.
Thanks George and Marie for a great stay and making us feel part of the family.

We've just come back from a week staying at the Palatia Village. Small friendly complex, George and Maria were wonderful hosts the BBQ and Greek dancing night was fun. Lovely Poole, plenty of sun loungers. Loved Rocky the dog. Clean and basic but a really chilled out holiday which was what we were looking for. Salads at lunch were yummy with a nice cold beer.

My sister and I stayed here for 10 nights in mid Sept. We were looking for a chilled holiday and the Palatia Village was perfect! The apartment was very clean and spacious and towels were changed regularly. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the pool area was always clean and there were plenty loungers available beside the pool. George and Maria are very welcoming and make you feel very at home, everyone was very friendly, can't speak highly enough of all the staff!

The food was traditional and varied every day. George puts on a barbecue once a week which is lovely! It's about a ten minute walk down to the main street and shops, which isn't so good on the way back as it's uphill, but we rented a moped which again I would recommend to see a bit more of the island. I would mention that there are a few cats around the gardens which some people might not like, but they are very cute and don't cause any problems. Overall a brilliant place to stay - would recommend to anyone.

My partner and I stayed here for a week B&B mid September, and it was lovely. The apartments are spacious, clean and set in lovely gardens. Breakfast was quite basic, but adequate.
George and Maria were great hosts, the pool is lovely and all in all very relating.
Palatia is located mid way up a hill, on a wide Tarmac road so it's easy underfoot, but dark at night. 15-20 mins stroll down the hill takes you into the port of Hersonissos, where there are plenty of bars, restaurants and shopping. Without doubt Mykos Taverna is the best around, reasonably priced but always busy so be prepared to wait. Other places we tried were a bit mediocre.
In this area a large beer is 3-4 euros, main meal (souvlaki, mousakka, etc) 7-10 euos. Fish dishes are more.
From Palatia going up the hill, about 2km or 20 mins until a T junction is reached, there are three beautiful villages. Its a bit of a hike, pleasant early evening, but take some water!!!
Old Hersonisos is to the right (500m) with cobbled streets and traditional tavernas. Go left at the junction and on to the villages of Piskopiano and Koutoulafari. The restaurants here have balconies overlooking the bay, its quite a view. Food quality was excellent and better priced. 5 courses 12 euro. There are some lovely places to stay in these villages too.
Car hire is about 30 euros a day (Fiat Grand Punto) and easy to organise locally. Going around we were shocked and quite sickened at the number of fur shops around. Just in the Hersonissos area there were 15. These seem to be very popular with the Russian tourists who we encountered quite a lot, and notable for their rudeness, absent manners and non existent etiquette.
Overall you won't go wrong if you select Palatia Village for your stay.
