Stayed at this hotel from 13th-20th August with my wife, travelling with Ocean Village as part of a cruise/stay package.
Arrived 7 hours late from Gatwick courtesy of Thomas Cook Airlines (what a wonderful efficient outfit they are!). First impressions were disappointing and not what we were expecting. The room, 1601, was sitauted at the top of a very steep hill, which meant you couldn't just pop back to the room if you'd forgotten something.
The patio area was sitauted in an alleyway between 2 buildings. The furnishings were very basic but it was very clean. We aslked to change but were told this was impossible as the hotel was full.
The hotel itself is very nice, but let down by the rooms and the hillside location. It's also in quite an isolated position next to a very busy main road (watch out crossing),with a 30-40 minute walk into Hersonissos, but only 15 mins into Stalis, which has little character.
We had a broken shower head which was reported, but not fixed all week. Also when you showered the drain overflowed on the floor. The following day it started to smell and was reported..again not repaired but the bathroom was disinfected very day after.
The staff attitude was poor, leading to inferior customer service.
The food though was good and plenty of variety at breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was very busy and dress code went out of the window, with a lot of non UK clients wearing shorts in the evening.
Lunches were also good and reasonably priced. As others have stated the drinks are expensive and beer is 2 euros cheaper outside.
There are 3 pools..top for families, middle for adults only (although no one pays attention to this), bottom pool is lively and is the place to go if you wish to join in the activities. We used Pool 2 and there were always plenty of sunbeds, with no need to reserve one.
The entertainment at night was not great and was not on every night.
They advertised a greek theme evening with a barbecue poolside, which they tried to promote every day, but wanted to charge 17 euros each which they said was for the entertainment. This is an awful lot of money, particularly if you're travelling with kids as they still charge 8.50 each. We refused to pay and ate in the restaurant as normal. You could actually watch the entertainment for free as you had to walk through Pool 1 area...it didn't look much to me and comprised of just a greek group.
All the hotels we've been to throughout Europe normally put on a theme evening for free.
Overall we were disappointed with our stay here. The decor of the Hotel says four star, but the standard of the rooms coupled with the isolated location coupled with poor customer service, would class it a the poorer end of 3 star.
If you stay at this hotel ,make sure your room number is less than 1100, or you will have a steep climb. If you have any kind of mobility problems, then avoid this hotel.
