“Lovely accommodation, great location, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

This was our second stay at Marni Village. I would recommend it as a place to stay! The location is great; far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Hersonnisos, but close enough to walk if you want to visit (get a taxi back, it's a steep walk!). Star beach is great, as is Stallis beach, a taxi ride away. We travelled with two children, so the water park was a must; great fun and a mini bus collected us from Marni to take us there. You are spoilt for choice for wonderful places to eat in Koutouloufari, a hop, skip and jump from the apartments. We loved Galini's, Emanuel's and Pithari restaurants, but really you can't go wrong with places to eat and drink, plus it's so picturesque! Our apartment was well situated, close to the main pool, although there are two others to choose from. Very clean, with daily maid service. Lovely apartment, just lacking a bit of storage space. Can't wait to visit again next time, and catch up with the friendly staff.

We spent 1 week in Marni Village, Koutouloufari and had a wonderful time. Marni Village itself was perfect! We stayed in a 2 person studio which was ideal for us (small terrace, bed, wardrobe, drawers, dressing table area, dining table area, small but compact kitchen space and practical bathroom). Our terrace looked onto the pool and then beyond you could see the sea. This was lovely! We only spent time at the main pool which is very nice. But there are 2 other pools which seem quite quiet and had we stayed longer would have definitely enjoyed. The staff make your stay extremely warm and welcoming. Friendly, very helpful and approachable. We went to the Cretian BBQ night on the Sunday. The BBQ was great and the entertainment was a good laugh. You have to be up for it or you wont get as much out of it. The walk to the beach from the hotel is about 15 minutes and about 30 minutes back up (quite steep but a good work out). When you get to the bottom, you reach Star beach. This is perfect for families, couples, groups etc. There are several small beaches which makes it more interesting. Sandy and clean. The waves and sea are amazing! There is also a little rocky cove which is beautiful with very clear water. We also walked to Stalis beach, which is a much longer sandy beach and worth a visit. The walk did take about 40 minutes once reaching Star beach so maybe not the best way to get there. But very scenic and beautiful! Koutouloufari village is very sweet. Pretty and friendly. We ate at Iokasti Cafe. The balcony looks onto the sea, staff were great and food good. Mojito amazing!! We also enjoyed a lovely, high quality dinner in Oniro restaurant and would recommend that. It's incredible how happy the staff always seem to be. Very pleasing. My favourite place to chill in the evening was Vinnys Garden. You can sit on sfas downstairs, on a rooftop balcony or in the rooftop snug. Free popcorn too We really did have a super time. Of course there were a few minor negatives... the beds and pillows are quite uncomfortable. The hills are very steep so long as you have this in mind and enjoy walking they wont bother you. Although the people are extremely friendly and kind, they all stand outside the restaurants/bars and and try to hustle you in. It can be quite off putting but it really is such a brilliant place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Marni Village and loved everything about it. We booked a taxi transfer from the airport through the hotel which was very easy and cost 35 euro each way. We booked a maisonette through the hotel website and paid cash so we could take advantage of the free air con offer. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome and were shown to our maisonette which had a kitchen (have to say we only used the fridge to cool water!), bathroom, sitting room, bedroom on a mezzanine level and balcony with sea and pool view. Very clean indeed.

We used the main pool every day and had no problem finding loungers even at noon. We ate lunch at the pool bar which was cheap and tasty although pretty basic (toasties, burgers, salads, crepes).

We loved the location and the village of koutouloufari. We ate at a different place each night and loved them all. Afterwards we returned to the pool bar for drinks where we were well looked after by the staff - thanks Manos and all the staff!

Highly recommend Marni and will definitely return. If you're thinking ok booking then do it, you won't be disappointed.

We were 2 families and we stayed in 2 one-bedroom flats. The bungalows are quite basic and could do with some refurbishment. The site is however very nice and very well maintained: Lovely gardens, three pleasant swimming pools. Very nice views and extremely nice and helpfull staff. Congratulations to the receptionnists ! Food at the main pool is not very expensive. I only wish they could always provide their customers with a ticket detailling the price paid. They did it a the beginning and then ... not anymore and I must say that a few times, I felt we were a bit overcharged. The hotel is located in a village with a lot of very nice tavernas / restaurants. What we really liked in Crete is how customer friendly the Greeks are. Fantastic level of service on the site and also in most of the Tavernas we went to. Don't expect to cook too much in the flats ... the cooking "tools"and hobs make it quite difficult, so this is something to consider as it will impact the holidays budget. There is however a small supermarket very close by and much to my surprise ... often cheaper than the bigger ones in Hersonissos centre.
The "Star beach" is 20 minutes walk away ... downhill when you go but ... up hill when you come back. Not a big issue really as when we felt too leasy to walk (usually on the way back !), it was easy to take a cab for 6 euros.
We really had a very nice time at Marni Village and would happily go back.

Two great weeks in a villa with its' own pool. Very tasteful, clean and well maintained buildings. Great food in the bar, very friendly and helpful staff and everything was reasonably priced. Many supermarkets in the vicinity and great taverna's in the nearby village. Recommend renting a car to visit the many amazing beaches nearby. The nearest beach is a bit far to get to with kids on foot but if you haven't rented a car you can get taxis or quad bikes. Wifi in rooms. Would definitely go back. Would like to go back right now!!!

Room Tip: The villa gives you excellent privacy..Booking directly you get free air conditioning

Just back from 2 weeks at the Marni Village, had a great time, new Pool at the top off the site is fantastic, no problem with sun beds. Stayed in a junior Suite it was kept very clean there was plenty off room and the shower was powerful. We had stayed here in 2001,2002 and 2004 and it is still a friendly place to stay.
The only downside to me was the entertainment i thought the Cuban and Brazil Dancing was a bit silly and the guy on Saturday night was ok but i am not into Reggae. I would rather have listened to traditional Greek music. The Sunday night bar b q was great fun. A big thank you to the staff, they worked very hard but always had a smile on their face, and Alex at the top bar was a laugh a very nice young guy. We were going to go back next year but will have to think off that. Nothing to do with Marni, but the Airport a total joke, the gate opens 2 hours before the flight leaves they had 4 flights going at nearly the same time, it took us 1 hour 45 mins to clear passport control and get through security, we had 10 mins to shop before flight boarded others were close to missing their flight. So something needs to be sorted at the Airport its the worst i have ever experienced. A lot off people said they would not go back to Crete and i noticed that there were no Ques for the flights to Paris. When people visit your country they should not be treated like animals leaving it.

Firstly, if you use the internet forget this place. While there is wifi reception throughout, even with a strong signal, at any time of day or night it is dial-up speed at best if not slower. They need at least a few more lines or more megabytes, so you can forget checking facebook, reading the news or anything;internet it is absolutely ridiculous. I had to go to the excellent sports cafe in the village to check emails and use the net. Terrible in this day and age to have such a slow connection, it would only cost them another 100 euros or so a month to get this sorted. Secondly, the bathrooms are very outdated and closer to a one or two star at best. They need serious renovation. The rooms are ok, we had a one bedroom superior but once again they need renovation. While the grounds etc are nice and well kept and have the feel of a luxury residence boutique hotel, the rooms fall far short of this and require renovation. Applicances etc are all old. Thirdly, if you dont have a car or motorbike forget this place, its a 60 degree hill into town and I would say at least 15-20 minute walk. I had a car though ! Next the pools which are by far not enough for the amount of people staying at this hotel. Unless you are early, forget finding a bed. Finally, our apartment was on the ground floor. Which means that you can hear lots of noise from the apartments of top, so insulation is an issue. There is also a serious issue of sewage smell because probably the sewage from the apartments ontop runs through common pipes and the open drain in the bathroom is the source of the smell! The sheets are changes twice a week which is ok BUT we found that the shower (itself a joke) matt was folded and placed as new whereas it was the same one! I have probably made the place sound worse than it is, however overall it is OK but I think overpriced and the reviews are too good for me considering I usually got by tripadvisor reviews which on this case I do not agree with. Overall dissapointing.

Dear Guest,

I feel bad that you did not enjoy your stay with us, but I would like to reply to your review as I do not agree with your comments. We do have a separate internet connection for the guests of the hotel, and most guests do not have problems using it. Occasional problems with internet line congestion or wifi signals may occur in any network, but they are fixed on the spot from our hotel staff. We never had any complain from you regarding the internet connection. If you had reported such a problem we could respond immediately and take care of the problem. I will have to disagree with you and point out a bad intention in your comments, light usage of the net like reading the news, checking social network pages like Facebook or checking emails generally runs smoothly.
Furthermore, internet lines in our area have limited megabyte bandwidth due to our location, we want to have faster connections but it does not depend on us. We also intend to have even more lines for next season so that we minimize any sporadic congestion in the network due to the load of traffic. The wireless internet in reception area also has a separate line, so it is generally faster.

Our hotel is a 3-star hotel, and we are certain that our bathrooms are of the same level or even better than of an average greek 3-star level hotel. This is true as we constantly and gradually renovate our hotel rooms and bathrooms. They are definitely not 1or 2-star level as, maliciously if I may say, described by you. About the smell, we did not had any report or complaint from you, so that we can check it. From the ladies check, there was no such smell, perhaps you may have not aired your room or bathroom at all during the day, for all we know.
We would try to help you with any problem you might have during your stay here, as long as we know about it.

Best Regards,
Anastasios Zacharopoulos
