“Amazing private villa with pool in heart of quiet Greek village of Koutoulafari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2011

6 of us went and stayed in one of the 'villages' three private villa's. The villa had two double bedrooms with balconies (each with outdoor table and chairs) and one twin room downstairs with French doors right out to the pool. Bedding is made every day, bins are also emptied daily. Bedding and towels changed every second day. There is a private swimming pool which is cleaned every third day. There is indoor and outdoor tables and chairs for 6, plus 6 sunloungers and a parasol. There are three communal pools (one infinity) all with snack and drinks bars, tennis courts, jacuzzi's and saunas. The reception is open 24 hours. village of Koutoulafari is a two or three minute walk away which hosts very authentic greek restaurants, some bars and some shops. major town of Hersonossis is about 10-15 minute walk away. Airport transfer took around 35 mins from Heraklion. Marni was perfect and very sad to be home!

We've been staying in Marni Village for 10 days and we really enjoyed.. pool is very clean, however some tiles come unstuck from the bottom so you can easily hurt your feet. Food in the hotel restaurant is average, nothing special i would say.. coctails are very expensive - 6e. In Hersonissos you can get them for 3 - 3,50e each. rooms are spaciuous enough, but you need to pay extra for the aircon, which is 5e a day. It's a really long walk down to the main city of Hersonissos, so if you like a night life i wouldnt recommend it for you. Rooms have been cleaned everyday, but towels are being changed every second day. Rooms closer to the main pool are more noisy, so if you like to go to bed early it may be a problem.. ask for a room in a quiet part of the hotel, like we did and it was ok.

Room Tip: there are rooms with a balcony or with a terrace.. balcony is very small so option with a terrace is...

We really enjoyed our stay, but this was due to the fact that this is more of a resort where there's nothing to do around the area but relax and sit by the pool all day (and we REALLY needed this after a busy trip in Italy). If your goal is to sight-see or have a more adventurous stay in Crete, I'd suggest you stay in Heraklion (the city central) instead. But we very much needed down time and this was the perfect place to stay.

However, one bad thing is both me and my friend got bitten by bugs/mosquitos like crazy during our stay here... we're not exactly sure whether it's because of the hotel itself or the area we walked around in.

Another thing is, the bed sheets/covers weren't that comfortable, so it was a bit difficult to sleep. But for the price, what can you really expect?

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Marni Village. No praise can be too high for the excellent service and friendliness of the staff. It was my Wife's birthday whilst we were away and the Marni staff left a small gift in our room to wish her all the best, it is nice touches like that which made our stay even more enjoyable.

Just a tip, if you are eating out there are many good restraunts in Koutulafari and Old Hersinnissoss but we found the best one to be a tiny place in Piskopiano called GEVSIS, it is run by one lady who cooks, does front of house and serves drinks! Try it out for really top greek specialities especially the KLEFTIKO and STIFADO!

Hotel was excellent, very friendly and helpful staff. Clean apartments, cooking facilities bit limited in the studio( 1 cooking ring and 1 warming ring) although does have a grill and oven, not a problem for us but worth mentioning. Linen/towels changed regularly and maid service daily.
Air conditioning was charged daily at 5 euros per day in June which was needed when we travelled!! 3 pools all lovely, pool bars all lovely and staff very helpful and friendly.
Bar food was also reasonably priced and very varied and tasty:) We can't really comment on the entertainment as mostly went to the village at night, but the night we did go it was a solo singer and he was fine.
Internet facilities are available in reception and is very reasonably priced, as are games such as pool etc.
The hotel is situated 15-20mins walk from the beach however is is great as it's downhill on the way there and on a very steep walk on the return journey!!! Not for the faint hearted!! Plenty of taxis available though at 7 euros if walking is a problem.
The little village of Koutouloufari is within a 5 minute walk with lovely restaurants and bars very traditional.
Would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the Marni Village for one week this June. The complex grounds are very pretty. We stayed in the family suite which is a really good size, it overlooked the pool and the views from the balcony were fabulous. The staff were always friendly and helpful. My only moan (and it is a very small moan) was that the bathroom could do with a refurbishment, the tap on the sink had seen much better days and the flow of the shower, which was a hand held shower over the bath, varied between good and a trickle, however the water was always hot. Plenty of loungers available while we were there, but possibly could prove a bit crowded around the main pool in peak season. Koutoufoulari is a lovely village with really good restaurants, we tried several restaurants and did not have a bad meal. After reading recommendations on previous reviews we visited Galani’s, and were not disappointed, the food and service were outstanding. We would definitely return to Koutoufoulari, and would look at the Marni Village for our return trip.

Absolutely loved Marni village and Koutoulfari village. (Hersonnisos bit of a dump though - except for a very fine bakery!). Pool perfect, staff very friendly, food fine, entertainment better than expected. View unrivalled and prices very good.

Recommend for families and couples - not for groups crazy to party (because you'll ruin it for the rest of us!!).

I hope to return to Marni next year.
