“Don't even think about it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2011

We are in our early 60's and have travelled frequently to lots of different parts of the world, quite often going cheap and cheerful and not expecting too much, but we have had some wonderful times. I can honestly say, the Pela Maria is the worst place we have ever stayed. Please believe all the bad reviews, I didn't because I have read bad reviews about other places we've been to, and they have not turned out so bad. I just assumed this would be the case in this Hotel, but boy we were in for a shock. Forget it if you are British, you are not catered for in any shape or form. The food was a disgrace, no change, no choice and repetitive beyond belief. If you had gone with children, I'm sure they would have found nothing suitable except chips, which were on the menu every day. I CHALLENGED THE OWNER ABOUT THE FOOD BUT HE INSISTED IT WAS OK. This Hotel has it so wrong, they shouldn't be allowed to stay open unless they completetly overhaul everything. Me and my Husband are not fussy people, we did not expect too much for what we paid, but this was way, way below our expectations. We wouldn't go there again, even if it was free, please please beleive all the bad reviews, they are so,so true.

Room Tip: Just don't go there

my partner and myself have just returned after one week at the pela maria hotel on 12/10/2011.the rooms are very small and basic.the cleanlyness is very poor.the food is absolutly discusting and all leftovers are regenerated the next day disciesed as a differant meal.the food is always cold or lukewarm.the pool area never gets any sunshine as its totally in the shade at all times, making the sunbeds a total waste of time.the allinclusive hours are incorrect as stated.as the actual hours for free drinks is 2200 hours and not 2400 hours.you can only have certain drinks after 2000 hours,it just so happens that the soft drinks mixer always broke down at 2000 hours every evening as they had large qantities of orange left over from the days meals that had to be used before you could get a mixer of your choice.

i really dont know where to start with this review, everything about this hotel is terrible and i feel very angry and annoyed that we spent our hard earned holiday money on a place like this!
we stayed in the pela maria from the 4th october 2011 to the 12th and i can honestly say i would never stay here ever again. on arrival ( 11pm ) we were told there would be no food or drink avaliable even thought we were all inclusive. our room had black mould all over the walls and was filthy. the next morning we complained and were told that there were no other rooms avaliable but suddenly after stating we wanted to be moved hotels a room became free!! this room was also mouldy and damp and was only cleaned once in the week we stayed. the towels were only changed if you physically threw them on the floor outside the room and the bed sheets were not changed at all.
the food was shocking and we had to spend all our extra money on eating out for all most every meal. the bar only runs till 10pm and after that you are charged. The staff are very helpful if you are willing to put a tip in their jar every time you go to the bar, apart from that the reception staff are very rude and unhelpful and the manager could not be any less bothered about complaints.
the pool is freezing and the sun never even hits the sun loungers so there is really no point in them being there! the whole place if filthy dirty and we saw cockroaches on several occassions. a few couples we met on the holiday also had black mould and bugs in their rooms and the hotel had refused to move them or transfer them.
please please please do not stay here, i cannot describe just how bad this hotel is and i would hate for any one else to make the same mistake as we did.

My wife and I have just stayed in the worst hotel ever lol!!
But the staff were great and obviously work under duress as the owner (Mr Miagii from Karate Kid lookalike! lol) Thinks we British only "like our booze!"
We did in fact have a great time and created a great alliance with our Mother Russian friends!!
The food in fact was ok .....bit repetative but something on menu for all!
The rooms very basic and dampNot much hot water, and beds uncomfortable.
Great location and fantastic resort.....if the ownersspent some money could actually have a gold mine on their hands!!
We had a great time and hit 2 days of terrible weather....but will return to Hersonossos again

Room Tip: Complain on arrival1

I went on holiday to pela maria hotel with my partner, sister and friend.I was not expecting a 5 star hotel but i was not expecting ants in our rooms either. The food was repeated every other night pork pork and more pork,if u dnt lik eggs ham and cheese for breakfast ur stuck the soup bowls was broken or had a chip in them we ended up eating 90 per cent of our meals out.The drinks, the pop was flat but the larger and wine went down well. The rooms was ok apart from the ants the shower was realy small.I would not go back to this hotel or recomend this hotel to anyone.we are not picky people and i didnt want to write a bad review but after going there id say find a different hotel.

This place really sucks, please believe all the bad reviews. We didn’t and suffered for it as we thought that we could cope with most things and are not usually picky. We have both stayed in better youth hostels.

Lets begin with the room, the 1st room was damp, mouldy, the roof outside drained onto our balcony which was too small to fit 2 chairs on, the safety deposit box was sat on a chair and the air con didn’t work. After an argument we were moved to another room which was slightly better but had at least 3 square feet of mould on the ceiling over the shower, no bathroom ventilation, a balcony with gaps large enough to allow a child to fall through, someone elses dirty underwear left in the back of the wardrobe, towel changes were infrequent and every new towel had holes in it, bed linen was only changed once in two weeks, the beds were never made, with sheets just folded and stacked at the foot of the bed and to keep the key in the door at night for fire safety you could not have any electricity for lights or air con and you could not open the door without the key in it – try that in the dark.

In relation to fire safety there are no working fire exits, they were either locked or blocked, the only stairs were broken and the handrail was broken off the majority of its mounting brackets. The communal areas of the hotel were just as bad with broken floor tiles and uneven floors causing trip hazards. The bar did not improve as all drinks were presented in half measures in plastic cups, served by one bar tender even at peak times At least half the cups were chipped and there were never enough of them, plates were in short supply resulting in very hot plates being used straight from the dishwasher -try that for your salad!!

But nothing could ruin the main course anyway – school dinners would have been three steps up from what we were served every day. Not a Greek dish or Greek influenced dish in sight. We know that very often all inclusive is basic and merely refuelling and have had this on other holidays, but did not expect to have reheated chicken nuggets for 3 days in a row when they were so hard that you could not cut them. The most entertainment was watching someone trying to cut one of these chicken nuggets and sending it shooting across the dining room like a bullet. Hilarious- or it would have been if we had not been the ones expected to eat this rubbish.

Please don’t expect to get a reprieve when you go to the pool area, there are 15 loungers all complete with cigarette burns, 2 umbrellas for shade and when you get in the pool don’t expect to get out. The ladder at the deeper end had only got one step at the top and the one at the shallower end only has 1 step at the bottom. The pool is ‘swept’ each morning but the same dining fork was in the pool for our whole 14 day stay.

The staff in the bar and restaurant were very pleasant but could only do what they were told too by the manager which resulted in the all inclusive drinks being reduced in our second week so that you could only have half a small plastic beaker of drink at each visit too the bar.

This place is so far from 3 star – please believe us. We spend a fortune in hiring a car and getting away from the hotel and on additional food and drink which we brought from some lovely tavernas. So we did have a good holiday despite this ridiculous example of a 3 star hotel.
