“Not Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

This was our first family holiday and we paid a lot of money (in our eyes) for the perfect all inclusive holiday. Unfortunately that wasn't what we got. Although the room we had was ok and was kept very clean the bathroom and shower were tiny, so much so you couldn't close the sliding door when sitting on the toilet and had to fight with the shower curtain to have a wash!

The biggest issues we had were with the entertainment, quality of food (lack of it), bed reservations and the fact that on our supposedly all inclusive holiday we had to pay €1.50 per day to hire a mattress for the beds by the pool.

If you stay at this hotel expect to have to be up at 6am to reserve beds by all of the pools, on our first day we had to physically move beds from one pool to another to allow us to have somewhere to sit as 99% were reserved with towels even though there are signs all around the hotels that state is is forbidden to reserve. We brought this up with our rep but she said there was nothing that could be done.

As for having to pay for the mattresses - we paid for all inclusive so that we didn't have to spend any additional money. To then find that we had to pay every day for comfort that should be included in the price we paid was very frustrating.

The food was pretty poor and as a result we ate out 3 out of 7 nights as we just couldn't stomach any more beige, bland food. This is mass catering on a grand scale as there are 2 hotels that are being catered for but there was a complete lack of taste and acceptable variety, the children's selection was chips and rice and one piece of meat every night and very rarely was anything piping hot.

The snack bars during the day serve chips, pizza (cold) and something they claim is a toastie (2 slices of bread, half a slice of ham and cheese) in never ending streams. There may be local spirits available but if you want a cocktail that is made up of those spirits you have to pay extra. We brought this up with the rep and she said that you need to get all of the spirits you know are in the cocktail and make it up yourself! The kids are happy but it isn't great.

The hotels are predominantly occupied by French, German and Dutch, not many English at all and the English that we spoke to had pretty much the same experiences as us.

The fact there are not so many English may be the reason why the entertainment was so sexually orientated and accepted by the majority of guests. While we appreciated that the 'shows' they put on are after 9.30pm the fact that they encourage children to sit at the front of the stage while the staff perform the full monty, throw darts at each other, pop balloons in various sexual positions etc. is totally unacceptable.

The staff don't appear happy in their work at all and struggle to raise a smile. In contrast if you leave the hotel and walk up into the village or down onto the front the locals couldn't be friendlier. We strongly recommend the Nikos Family Taverna on the strip opposite star beach. Great food, prices, atmosphere and staff are fantastic.

The pools are ok but the majority are 2.5m deep and there are no lifeguards. All are salt water which the kids don't seem to have a problem with but we weren't keen. There was a stagnant water smell near the kids pools and we never saw any of the pools being cleaned.

All in all the holiday was ok, the weather was great but we won't be returning and we will be complaining to the holiday company as their online brochure is mis-leading.

This isn't a 4* hotel and if you're thinking of booking it I would strongly recommend that you read as many reviews as possible and think again.

11 nights, 11-22 Aug, 2 adults 2 kids 11 & 8
To be honest it looks to me like many people expect too much from a Greek/Crete hotel.
A 4* hotel in Greece is equal to a 3* in England, this is not a slight on Greece, the same can be said for many world destinations (that includes, on the most part Spain)
Excellent swimming pools, the biggest we have ever found. (however please note no lifeguards)
Very good service at reception and the bar.
Average/good room (very clean, very good maid service for room number 805 if hotel manager reads)
Average food (free greek night truly awful, left us too frightened to try the free Itallian night)
Daytime food Average/Good (note no ice lollys big bad point for the kids)
Location Very Good
Note, very cosmopoliton (not that that seems to cause any problems)
Truly awful night time entertainment ,without doubt the worst we have ever found (micheal jackson night lol what a unbelievable experiance (turns out that was one of the best nights)
Air con was fine in our room.
First choice rep Rosie Good/Very Good.
If the hotel sorted little easy things like icelollys and the table clearing at meal times and bigger things like entertainment, the reviews will be more consistantly good in my opinion.
Obviously I am in no position to comment on other rooms , and I fully understand how a bad room can make the whole hoilday feel dreadful.

first impressions looked lovely, but thats when it went downhill literally food was so poor could only be likened to the N.H.S on a very bad day ,horrible yukky bland slops that i wouldnt even give to my dog .the fresh " cooked selection" consisted on pasta so covered in poor quality grease the it wud slide of the plate on its own accord if tilted ever so slightly
no greek food on offer at all think 1 or 2 * and your there and to have the same old tripe dished constantly for 11 days is a bit much such delicacys as perk fish and rabbit stew
pudding was the same every meal lunch and dinner for ten days
thought maybe soups would be the way forward but how wrong could i be more cornflower flavoured slops
then there was the four bouts of gastric flu between the wife and myself over the ten days the only times we wernt sick were on days were we were out for food
pools looked lovely but where very dirty, slippery where they havent been cleaned since god knows when and they were all saltwater also with a vast majority of people never leaving them all day to use the toilet having consumed 3 gal of cheap gassy greek lager
no kettle in room, only available for €5/DAY
sun-bed matresses €1.50 each towels the same
frappee coffee €3.50 each

DO YOURSELF AND FAMILY A BIG FAVOUR DO NOT GO NEAR THIS HOTEL WITH A BARGE-POLE AS IT IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN FAWLTY TOWERS AND HELLS BELLS FROM CARRY ON HOLIDAY BUT WITHOUT THE HUMOUR HAS PUT OUR FAMILY OFF ALL-INCLUSIVE HOLIDAYS FOR LIFE IT WAS SO POOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!

Firstly the room had possibly the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in. On the first night we arrived the rim of the toilet seat had not been cleaned so that started to make me wonder. The staff inside the hotel were not that friendly, one of the bar staff at the blue room bar was out and out rude and I told him so.

They only give you one room key so there's no way of keeping the air con when you go out and if you open the patio on return the air con goes off. There are no instructions or any type of guidance, notes etc. in your room and I found it amazing that there was no kettle? Also it can get noisy as the room door's cannot open or shut without the loudest possible bang.

There was no Greek food in the restaurant and the whole thing was a get you in and get you out experience.

I also think that a few of the staff at the snack bar's could do with a lesson on how to smile.

The pool's look great but take a look at the bottom of them, sediment and dirt. One day the small pool had vomit in it and I reported it to reception who promised they'd sort it out but didn't. Our party of 8 developed gastroenteritis, which apparently was spreading around the hotel(one young girl was placed on a drip). When we asked the reception the first thing we were told was that it was not the hotel!

The hotel cannot give you Euros so make sure you take them as the ATM is quite a walk.

Also the beach is accessible only by means of a busy road so you also should be aware that if you wish for change from the pool, it is not that straightforward.

In relation to the entertainment I do not think that it was very documented as to what the kids could do. There was no real encouragement for them or prompting you had to go and look for it yourself so that was disappointing.

Also don't be fooled be the word 'zoo', it isn't a zoo it's prison and the donkeys, goats, birds and tortoises probably felt the same as the holidaymakers. Trapped in a place where nobody cared.

Room Tip: moan, scream and shout.

Upon reading the reviews and being a little put off by them at first we had an amazing honeymoon at this hotel. Upon arrival we were given a family room and told that we had to change the next morning but that was ok as we didn't want to unpack that night anyway. When the morning came we asked reception to come and help us with our bags which they did without hesitation. When we were given our room key and found our room we couldn't believe what we were seeing! An amazing room with views out to the sea, a jaccuzi bath and a lovely clean room with air conditioning for free. We loved it an being there for eleven nights was amazing! We loved the top pool which seemed a little more upmarket rather than round the Olympic pool which had the reps around doing activities throughout the day but had some good music whilst you were sunbathing. The food was ok except for the fried pasta which was every night on the show cooking but there were two show cooking with the other doing like pork or burgers which suited us. There was a great selection of Greek salads which we took advantage of, they were delicious! We found the staff in the restaurant ok but especially during breakfast even if we had our coffees on the table and then both went up for our breakfast we would often find our coffees cleared away which wasn't so good. One night when they did this my husband actually said something to one of the waitresses. Other than that though it was good food. The restaurant also opened around 11pm where you could go and help yourself to the cold buffet which was a bonous when you had had some drinks! The drinks were ok too and you could have as much as you like for free! So overall an amazing holiday, so please don't read all the bad reviews as some people are just picky! We would definitely recommend it and revisit! :)

We had a fantastic flight over with Thomsons on their new Dreamliner flight then the holiday went down hill! The family room they tried to put us in was disgusting, bathroom needed a complete refurb, dirty, basic room with very basic furniture. Balcony had massive AC unit on it, no view of anything as squashed in corner. Very disappointed so went back to reception to be told no other rooms available so I rang First Choice to complain and said I was refusing to stay (I have never complained about a room before so please don't think I normally moan!) suddenly a room became available which was on other side of hotel, bigger brighter room but still bathroom needing refurb, but we accepted the room as only there for 1 week and wanted to get on with our holiday. After the hotel man left us I opened the fridge which was full of ants, ants all over back of fridge, dead ants in drawers! There were hairs all round edge of room where it hadn't been cleaned! Terrible! I thought I had already complained enough and though maid would clean properly next day but no, the floor didn't get cleaned!! Hairs there all week, sheet put on bed but toppers just left in mound on bed not made properly! No water in fridge (nothing) Pools lovely especially top pool. Not enough sunbeds so we had to set our alarm at 6.30 to put towels out as by 7 they had all gone! Had to pay for towels and mattresses. Adult entertainment was the worst we have ever seen. Unprofessional, miming, not appropriate with children around. Hardly anyone even clapped! One night they had songs from different eras and had images of twin towers 911, Sri Lankan tsunami showing!!! Hardly what you want to see, terrible images of
people suffering! Restaurant and
bar staff very friendly.
Pool bar was very nice.Lots of steps as on mountainside but fab views of the sea.
Food edible, drinks ok.
We made the most of the pools and our 9 year old met friends so had a good time but I would not recommend this hotel.
On departure I glanced at the comments book in reception and couldn't believe the terrible comments in there-everyone wrote the same so you would think management would act on this!
We have been to many 4 star hotels and this was not 4 star!!! We won't be returning.

This hotel was one of my worst experiences, ever. The staff was down right rude. I have never encountered a hotel with staff as rude as this one. Everyone that worked at the receptionist was not helpful, talked down to you and one particular one was very racist. The food was terrible, it was the same lunch and the same dinner every night. It was not all inclusive by any means. You had to pay 3 euros to get a mojito. All of their crap alcohol was free. It is nowhere near the beach, and it fact is quite a walk to get to the beach. They had entertainment every night THAT YOU HAD TO PAY TO WATCH! All inclusive? No. The rooms were disgusting. One morning my cousin woke up to ants in her bed. Also the AC in our room blew. They did not change the sheets everyday and anything that you called front desk for would take HOURS for them to respond to you. By far, the worst hotel, the worst staff and absolutely the worst part of our trip. If you are reading this- please do not waste your money on this hotel. I understand it is cheap but pay more for a better experience.
