We had a fantastic time staying at Amazones Village Suites. The accommodation was really good with breathtaking views from our balcony - would recommend paying a bit extra for sea view!! Room had air conditioning which was ice cold - great in the heat. Good room facilities aswell although we didn't eat in the room at all - too many great restaurants nearby. Room was cleaned daily and there was free wine and water on arrival in the room, as well as fruit.
Dijan, the hotel waiter / barman (although so much more than that) did absolutely everything to make our trip really special and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed and was so friendly - as were all the staff. Tip him well please as he works so hard but doesn't expect any tips in return and is happy to do his job to make people have a great holiday. Mishko, the puppy was hilarious and it was lovely having a dog about the place - a home from home.
All the guests were friendly too and there was a good atmosphere in the hotel, especially around the pool where you could always get a sunlounger. Nice to go somewhere where there are not too many brits! Once again, the view is stunning from the pool terrace and helps you forget about the stresses of home and work!
Restaurant wise, we would recommend Mezes, a Greek restaurant in Kautaulafari, the next village along from Piskopiano. Food delicious here and would recommend the traditional mezes meal. Also 'Avli' - a restaurant down in Hersonossis which serves lovely traditional Greek food. Finally, a place called Elisavet - in the heart of Piskopiano with lovely views over the sea. Apparently, the small Greek restaurant next door to Elisavet is meant to be great too - but always busy so we couldn't get a table - but meant to be worth going to as it's run by a Greek man and his wife who cook all the food themselves.
Pub wise, there are a lot of Irish bars in Hersonossis as many Irish visit it as opposed to Malia - which is the English equivalent (and recommended to avoid). The best pub in Piskopiano was Nostos bar, run by Manos and his wife Lucy. It was such a friendly bar with plenty of free shots and karaoke - and a great atmosphere. Went there every night - which we don't normally do! One night, we ventured into Hersonossis but turned round again and came back to the village as it was far too busy whereas Piskopiano is more relaxed but still busy enough to enjoy yourselves.
Only bad thing to say about Hersonossis is that the beach is not great - but there a lovely beaches not far away if you hire a car. Lots of hills to walk up aswell so not recommended for people who find walking difficult.
So overall a great holiday made special by the great accommodation and hotel facilities, breathtaking views and friendly people. Would definitely go back to Crete, to Piskopiano and to Amazones Village Suites - and wouldn't say that about any other place in Greece that we've been to. Go there and enjoy!!! (and say hi to Dijan and Mishko!)
