For our first time in Crete, we wanted to have a base which could allow us to visit as much as possible of the island in four days.
The Amazones Village Suites has revealed to be the perfect choice.
We stayed in a master suite, which we definetely suggest: very big, fantastic view, very good service.
Good breakfast around the pool in the morning, with a view as fantastic as the one we had from our room.
The hotel is far enough from the confusion of Hersonissos and very close to the very nice village of Piskopiano, where we could have very nice food in one of the many tavernas.
It is better to have a car, becasue the hotel is on the hill, just a little bit far away from the beach (a couple of km´s).
If you want to visit the island, like we wanted, the hotel is in the perfect location, just in the middle of the north coast of the island.
Very good value for money, a lot of courtesy and very nice staff.

I booked this hotel through the "finest hotels of the world" websire. The pictures on this defiitely reflect the look of the hotel however the facilities listed do not. We booked a panormaic sea view suite. This was meant to include a jacuzzi in the room and wone on arrival of which there was neither. The wine I was not so bothered about, however, I was rather disappointed that we did not get a jacuzzi. The hotel facilities list on the website state that there is an "a la carte" restaurant and a jacuzzi as part of the pool. This is clearly not the case - there is no jacuzzi and the food that is served is delivered from a local take away shop in Hersonissos. The remainder of the facilities are very good, although we were asked to remain quiet one evening when we were using the hotel bar (not just us, all the guests) even though the staff were encouraging us to buy drinks. If they wasnted us to keep the noise down (and it was not loud as there were few customers in there) they should have shut the bar rather than taking people's money from them. This was not the fault of the bar staff (Marion and Lee) who were very good but a result of the owners making a complaint.

The surrounding area is lovely and a great place for a base as a holiday - as the gentleman in the review below has pointed out. The restaurants in the villages are excellent although beware of the greek wine! If you like a cabernet sauvignon and are not a huge fan of sherry beware! patrikos has a good choice.

After we arrived home, I emailed the customer services at "finest hotels of the world" to comment on the poor facilities compared to that stated on the website and the fact that as an international website I would expect the standard to be of a 4* not a 2*+. I understand that greek hotel standards can be different to other countries howeveer I would expect an international hotel website to point this out and rate accordingly. She forwarded an email to the owners and I received a very offensive reposnse from them including a comment that I was clearly wrong and that there was a jacuzzi and an "a la carte" restaurant. Please let me know if you disagree!

I would recommend the resort but would stay at a different hotel. I woudl not stay at this place again.

Special mention to Marion though who did an excellent job.

A panoramic sea view and night views of the lights of Hersonissos from the balcony of room E1 were just 2 of the pleasures I experienced on this great holiday.Myself a 60+ veteran of many foreign trips, and a cabbie chum Niall enjoyed a wonderful few days. The apartments are comfortable and practical, although a little susceptible to ingress of water,in abnormal weather. The breakfast spread was the envy of others. The bar stayed open late, and was the most enjoyed feature of this holiday. The playing of live music was tolerated by the hotel staff. Thanks to Katerina for her pleasant smile, and tolerance to ageing eccentrics.
The three villages area Old Hersonissos,Piskopiano and Koutouloufari are blessed with many family run tavernas, and is well recommended by me as a holiday venue providing a varied and interesting area to amble ,browse and seriously eat, drink, and make merry.I must mention personally the members of staff
that made our holiday so enjoyable. Katerina,Marion,Dian,Lee,Helena......SIMPLY THE BEST...
Apologies to Niko for his fruitless visit when my key was inarcerated in my room for the second time in a week...HAHAHA
Many thanks u lot for a great time...Paul from Stretford

We had a fantastic time staying at Amazones Village Suites. The accommodation was really good with breathtaking views from our balcony - would recommend paying a bit extra for sea view!! Room had air conditioning which was ice cold - great in the heat. Good room facilities aswell although we didn't eat in the room at all - too many great restaurants nearby. Room was cleaned daily and there was free wine and water on arrival in the room, as well as fruit.

Dijan, the hotel waiter / barman (although so much more than that) did absolutely everything to make our trip really special and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed and was so friendly - as were all the staff. Tip him well please as he works so hard but doesn't expect any tips in return and is happy to do his job to make people have a great holiday. Mishko, the puppy was hilarious and it was lovely having a dog about the place - a home from home.

All the guests were friendly too and there was a good atmosphere in the hotel, especially around the pool where you could always get a sunlounger. Nice to go somewhere where there are not too many brits! Once again, the view is stunning from the pool terrace and helps you forget about the stresses of home and work!

Restaurant wise, we would recommend Mezes, a Greek restaurant in Kautaulafari, the next village along from Piskopiano. Food delicious here and would recommend the traditional mezes meal. Also 'Avli' - a restaurant down in Hersonossis which serves lovely traditional Greek food. Finally, a place called Elisavet - in the heart of Piskopiano with lovely views over the sea. Apparently, the small Greek restaurant next door to Elisavet is meant to be great too - but always busy so we couldn't get a table - but meant to be worth going to as it's run by a Greek man and his wife who cook all the food themselves.

Pub wise, there are a lot of Irish bars in Hersonossis as many Irish visit it as opposed to Malia - which is the English equivalent (and recommended to avoid). The best pub in Piskopiano was Nostos bar, run by Manos and his wife Lucy. It was such a friendly bar with plenty of free shots and karaoke - and a great atmosphere. Went there every night - which we don't normally do! One night, we ventured into Hersonossis but turned round again and came back to the village as it was far too busy whereas Piskopiano is more relaxed but still busy enough to enjoy yourselves.

Only bad thing to say about Hersonossis is that the beach is not great - but there a lovely beaches not far away if you hire a car. Lots of hills to walk up aswell so not recommended for people who find walking difficult.

So overall a great holiday made special by the great accommodation and hotel facilities, breathtaking views and friendly people. Would definitely go back to Crete, to Piskopiano and to Amazones Village Suites - and wouldn't say that about any other place in Greece that we've been to. Go there and enjoy!!! (and say hi to Dijan and Mishko!)

We booked this hotel 4 days before we left the UK. We knew we were taking a chance finding it on the internet, but what a find. We had 2 suites, one for us, one for the kids (next door). The rooms were basic but spacious.Being on a B&B basis, the kitchen area was good. 4 hot rings, microwave, fridge with icebox and sandwich toaster and sink with plenty of hot water. Spa bath in a modern bathroom. There are more restaurants than you can shake a stick at in the area, but some nights it was nice to stay in and make dinner with the kids. Breakfast is a cold buffet style and you can order lunches at the hotel but as they do not have a kitchen, all food is brought in from a local restaurant. The food is good but takes a little while to arrive on the back of a moped! The large towns nearby are busy and noisy at night with all the shops and sports bars you could want, but not for us.

Being up in the hills, I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with walking difficulties. Some areas are very steep and there are lots of steps. But saying that, it is a beautiful area with a fantastic view all around. Sunrise and sunset is breathtaking. Caterina runs the hotel and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She speaks fluent English and will help you with anything. Her young sons help around the place and they have recently acquired a puppy which is very popular with the kids. The grounds are well kept and the pool is not huge but sufficient. There are only 40 rooms and the place never really seems busy or rushed, so you can relax very quickly. Other guests were mainly from Holland and Germany but lots of Greek families were there, so I think that is a good sign. Amazones is a good base to visit other areas as it is quite central. There are lots of buses and taxis, mopeds or quadbikes to hire. We will certainly go back.
