“A great break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

Villas Esperides was a random find through our travel agent for a last minute break. A well looked after place in a good hillside location in a cute village. The owners are really nice and made us feel very welcome. Good value and if returning to Crete again would return to Villas Esperides. Usefully has plenty of parking if you have a hire car.

We have been visiting the gorgeous village of Koutouloufari for 13 years now. This is our 2nd year staying at Esperides villas and we are going back next year.Let me explain why. After trying many others we are drawn back to Esperides because it truly feels like our 2nd home. Its family run,not too big,so very friendly and welcoming, safe, great for families, quiet, very natural, very green.Plus your in the village and what a wonderful village Koutouloufari is.It gives you easy access to the beach { those less active might need a taxi up the hill} also easy flat walking to many other wonderful villages.Hersonnisos village has weekly festival nights, great family fun! What more can i say apart from please go! You wont be disappointed.Thank you.

The most relaxing holiday we have had in years. The apts are set in a quiet traditional village about 20 mins walk from the main town of hersonissos.Basic but clean and the Markakis family who run them are very friendly and welcoming. There are lots of bars and restuarants nearby all offering great food. This is the first time we have visitied the area but we will def be back next year.

We have been visiting Villas Esperides for the last 3 years and intend to go again next year. The Markakis family make you feel so welcome, always available for a chat by the pool. Excellent set up with basic but clean facilities in the rooms. On the doorstep to Koutouloufari with its many small tavernas & bars. Highly recommend eating at Segiani's, Pithari's & Oneiro's...never had a bad meal and all reasonably priced. The location to Hersonissos is up a very steep hill and takes about 20 mins to walk down. Coming back up in the heat is a killer...taxi's charge 7 euros from the town, harbour...seems to be the going rate. Star beach is good for adults and also a purpose built family area with water slides for the younger children. All in all we love it.

It seems hard to believe that we have been visiting Esperides Villas for almost 30 years. However, each time we return we realise what attracts us to this delightful place.
I wrote a review of Esperides Villas 2 years ago and can only repeat the glowing account I gave then.
This traditional, family run, group of viilas is a haven for singles, couples and families, perfect for those wishing a self catering holiday. Although the accommodation is of a basic nature cleanliness is paramount, while kitchen equipment and linen are of an excellent standard.
It is idealy situated at the edge of the village of Koutouloufari with plenty of tavernas and restaurants to choose from.
It is a delight to stroll through the village which although it has developed over the years still retains its traditional feeling of friendly hospitality.
If you are looking for a traditional Cretan holiday then visit the Markakis family at Esperides Villas- you will not be disappointed.
Oh, and by the way, we have already booked for next year!

Last year, in june, i visited Esperides-villas for two weeks and i have to admit that i had a wonderful time. The staff and the owners of the hotel were very friendly and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. It is not a luxurious or super modern hotel but it is clean and surely covers your needs. The location was significant! The hotel is near a traditional village called Koutouloufari and just 1km far from Hersonissos. The view being provided is stunning as you can easily look at the sea and the hills around the hotel. I will definitely come back!!

Been to the Villas Esperides now 3 times! Have to say its a fantastic place and a very reasonable price.

Properties are clean, serviced regularly, and very quiet at night. Security is good and the all the facilities you need are there. Bar is excellent and so is the food.

No real problems but a couple of important points to note - STEPS. And lots of them. Plus you are about a 1km walk down a very steep hill to get to the main town. If you have any problems walking or have kids with prams etc. this is not the place to stay.

Also the pool is a little small and if there are a lot of teenagers staying then it can become quite crowded.

Overall though a well run family business, very friendly, clean and good value for money!

Room Tip: Rooms towards the front of the complex near the main gate are best - complex goes quite far back so...
