“RELAXING BREAK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2010

All-round a good hotel. 4 day weekend break with my wife. Food good, all-inclusive package okay, drinks from 10 am to 11pm so take some Euros if you intend to drink into the early hours. Not much in the way of evening entertainment for the duration of our stay with the exception of some Greek dancers one evening at dinner. Friendly helpful staff sandwiches and bubbly in our room on our late arrival much appreciated.
Olive Tree restaurant excellent book on arrival to avoid disappointment or make reservation via email prior.

Booked this last minute and we could't have asked for more.
We arrived at 10.30pm to a speedy check in and we were overjoyed to say the least. Very spacious, modern reception area going through to a beautifully set out little village style area. We unfortunately had missed dinner, so settled for a quick drink before venturing outside to look for something to eat. Plenty of eateries just outside the hotel, and loads of shops. Lovely comfy bed in a modern spacious room with safe in wardrobe (Pay 3euro per day at reception for instructions) and awoke to see our balcony view, Our room was 263 and we overlooked the romantic bar and pool and had gorgeous sea and mountain views. Simply stunning. Breakfast lunch and dinner all served in the Minoan Restaurant which we found had more than ample choices at every serving. We ate like lords for the whole week and didn't even get around to booking our included meal at the Olive tree restaurant...
Pools kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay, towels provided on first morning at the spa, and you can change them on Fridays, Mondays and Wednesdays. We had no trouble getting sunbeds at either of the pools, but sayng that, we were up for breakfast about 7:30am. We spent most of our time at the beach bar pool overlooking the sea, beautiful area but beach shoes recommended though as it's quite a rocky shore line but beautiful to overlook after evening meal. Staff at the restaurant were very friendly and promptly clearing up tables and resetting them throughout service. Romantic Bar's Kostas keeps the alcohol flowing throughout the afternoon and evening with a cheeky smile, and always willing to share a few words. AI drinks do end at 11pm, but we didn't have a problem with that, as happy hour (2 for 1 ) was 11 til midnight. 3 cocktails on the menu are not included in the AI package but Kostas makes sure you know before ordering.
Crete itself was really pretty and we took a couple of trips through ELA tours located just across the road and to the right of the hotel and saved a fortune compared to reps prices. We would recommend both the Cretan night in the traditional village and the Land Rover Grand Adventure tour, which took us out at 9am and included refreshment stops, a BBQ lunch at Zorbas Taverna, amazing views and insight into Cretan life and the villages scattered all over the mountains and plains. Our Driver/Guide Brian, was superb, and full of knowledge as well as a comedian, humouring us throughout the trip. Our trip also took us to the cave of Zues, which was spectacular, however, it's a very steep climb to the entrance but worth every step...We were back at our hotel at around 6pm.
We had a cracking time, choosing relaxation with a bit of tourism but you can quite easily enjoy a busier nightlife as there are many bars etc around. All in all, I couldn't fault a thing.
Just remember, you won't be in an all brit hotel, it's popular with russians, germans, italians, polish so the food will be varied as they try to accommodate all tastes, but plenty of meat, fish and pasta dishes kept us very happy throughout our stay. Also, as it's an adult only hotel, expect plenty of peace, luxury ;-)
Have a fantastic time at the Aquis Silva Beach, it's worth booking.

Me and boyfriend loved the chilled out atmosphere around the pool - we have never been to an adults only so didnt know what to expect. The top pool is more for relaxtion, where as the bottom pool by the sea is the livlier one. The pool areas were always really clean and the rooms (we were lucky enough to get a refurbished room) were great-flat screen tele's on the wall, contemporary bathroom and a good double bed (not 2 singles pushed together). Dont go to Hersonissos if you want a beach holiday - the sea is amazing but their isnt any sand, its all rocks -so invest in some of those aqua shoes. There isnt much entertainment on, there was a dance show on on the Friday and some greek dancing on the Tuesday and that was about it! There is a good mix of nationalites, there seemed to be a lot of Russians, but maybe that was cos they were so loud. The food was of a good quality but repetative - we ended up mostly eating out in the evening - however, we do recommend booking the al a carte restaurant (the olive tree) its 4 courses and really nice! this was a fab escape and we really enjoyed the break.

My partner and I have just returned from Silva Beach and we ahd the most amazing time!

The hotel was beautiful and really lived up to the reviews I have seen. The rooms are spotless and spacious and very modern. Big beds too whcih is great. Air con free and if you leave your key in the electricity slot during the day, its stays very cool for when you get back.

The hotel staff were great, - partiularly Simone and Valentina who provided the Animation for the day. You do not need to take part as there are 2 pools and only one houses the animation.

Food was ok - not much for the evening meals though. Dont get me wrong the quality was good but very limited choice.

Drinks good.

Location is great, only have to step out of the front doors to get onto the main strip and a 5 minute walk takes you into the main shopping area.

Would recommend Niki's in the evening if you fancy going out for a cocktail!

Just returned from a fabulous trip with the girlfriend to the Aquis Silva Hotel. We went for one week all-inclusive, only booking about 7 days before we travelled.

Check in was straight forward and a porter was on hand to carry our bags to the room. We had paid extra (about £30 a person) to get one of the rooms that had been modernised in the last year (there are some of the older ones still available - known as Annex rooms). The room was fantastic - two single beds, new 37" plasma TV and dvd player, remote control air-con, walk in shower (with shower gel and soap dispensers). Maids came in every day and made the room and replaced towels as required. Out only problem with the room was that the fridge wasn't working on arrival - we called reception and within 15mins they had replaced the fridge with a brand new unit.

The hotel itself was perfect - two pool areas - one beside the main bar and one beside the beach bar. Slight frustration that there didn't seem to be enough sun beds for all the guests, however this just meant that you had to get up around 830am and reserve a couple. Not too bad as breakfast was served up until 10am so tied in nicely.

The main hotel restaurant looked as if it had been modernised recently. You could either sit inside and have the benefit of the air-con or sit on the outside terrace with nice sea and pool views. There was a superb selection of food available - with fresh salads and breads, along with various meat and fish dishes. Most nights there was a theme (Asian, Italian, Greek, BBQ) which provided a bit of variety. With the all-inclusive package you also got to eat one night in the a-la-carte Olive Tree restaurant. This was a nice restaurant on the premises with sea views and food was tasty. Didnt have any problem booking this restaurant on the day we wanted to try it.

Entertainment in the hotel was reasonable. Being an adult only hotel there was water-polo, beach volley ball, darts, bowls, water aerobics during the day. Evening entertainment varied from bingo, music quiz, Greek dancers - typically ran from about 10-11pm.

Location of the hotel was superb - although in the Hersonissos resort it was quiet and peaceful at all times of the day and we had no problem with any noise at night. A 5min walk along the main road or the coast brought you right into the centre of the resort - this was filled with bars, clubs and restaurants - perfect if you were after a bit more of a lively evening. You could also walk to the neighbouring Star Beach in about 5mins, which provided water sports, bungy jumping and a small beach.

All in all we had a superb time at the Aquis Silva and wouldn't hesitate in recommending the hotel to other people.

My only slight concern is that the day before we were due to travel the travel company called us to let us know that the hotel had been overbooked by 50 rooms and would we mind being moved to another Aquis hotel in Crete (I believe there are a number of others). As we had specifically chosen this hotel because of the location and the adults only factor, we held firm and managed to keep the booking at the Silva - however we only found this out 4 hours before we travelled. When we boarded the transfer to the hotel a large number of travellers also complained of the same problem - being moved to another hotel the day before they travelled. Just as the bus was departing a rep jumped on and informed the people that had been moved to another hotel that they were in fact now being moved to a third Aquis hotel as the other replacement was fully booked as well! Not sure whether this is a problem created by the travel companies or the Aquis hotel group - however worth bearing in mine when booking.

Me and my partner booked this accommodation just 6 days before we were due to travel when the holiday we had planned to Mexico was ruined by Thompson holidays, so we were expecting just a mediocre week away that we'd paid £2000 less than we had originally planned to so didn't hold up much hopes. We were proven very very wrong by this stunning hotel. We paid just short of £650 for both of us for the week all inclusive and it beats other holidays that we've paid alot more for.

We arrived at the complex at 6am local time and we were greeted with a lovely clean and newly refurbished lobby. The receptionist checked us all in quickly and showed us to our room within 10 minutes. We were shown to room 401 which I think was probably the best lcated room on the complex as it is right next to the pool. It was newly refurbished (we had actually booked into an annex room but the hotel had upgraded us free of charge to one of the refurbished rooms) it had been done so recently there was still a slight smell of fresh paint in the room. The room came with two single beds (we do like a double so we had a word with the reception and within 5 minutes the maid had come and made the two singles up as a double bed which we were more than happy with. The room came equipped with a flat screen HD TV, fitted wardrobes, a fridge, seating and a HUGE walk in shower. I was lovely, clean and very comfortable. Also the air-con in the room was fantastic, when your dealing with heats of 35 degrees all we did is go back to the room for 2 minute to cool down, it was brilliant and was included in the price of the room.

Both pool areas were always clean and had plenty of sun loungers, don't listen to whingers when they say about the fact the sun loungers get taken up quickly, yes they do, however when you are going to a hotel in the peak summer months you cant expect much less really! They put signs up just as we were leaving saying not to reserve sun loungers which is fair. The hotel do provide one beach towel per person which I found was great as id never had this before, you pick them up from the spa and granted you hand them back at the end of your stay that is it, you are charge 20 euros if it is not returned.

The bars were clean and spacious also, we generally used the romantic bar as it had a lovely seating area with stunning sea views as you sat enjoying cocktails, also they had 2 plasma TV's in this one and a pool table. Also alt of the evening entertainment was held here. The beach bar had a small sheltered seating area with sea views near to the second pool, we only used this one once so cannot really comment much. The lobby bar was lovely with a very quiet relaxed atmosphere.

The food in the buffet restaurant, is so far the best i have experienced abroad, it has loads of choice of fresh breads, fresh salads, hot food and desserts. The bread was lovely, you could taste how fresh it was, you even cut your own slices. The salad was always cold and very fresh. The hot food had all different types of meat on offer, fresh vegetables and others, there was never a time i couldn't find anything that i didn't like, and I can be very fussy when it comes to food. The best night was the Monday barbecue night. The food was all being cooked fresh infront of you and was all so tasty, i was very impressed, also this night they had a Greek band playing and Greek dancers for entertainment whilst you eat, which we thought was a nice touch.

Under the all inclusive package you are entitled to one night in the olive tree a la carte restaurant, the restaurant is lovely, with a slightly open kitchen, its small and cosy with very fresh and clean decor, the tables dressed nicely too, if you get a seat near the window you also benefit from fabulous sea views whilst enjoying your meal. The food I have to say wasn't as good as i had expected. However the reason I didn't enjoy it as much as i had hoped may be down to me being a fussy eater. There is limited choice on the menu so i ordered what i could manage to eat this was the main let down, when the food came it was brilliantly presented. The starter i had (roasted vegetables) was ok, that's all i can really describe with this, however the main and the desert were very nice. If you like fish and meat you will love the olive tree unfortunately im not a massive fan of it so didn't enjoy it as much as i would have liked but the service and being waited on was a really nice change.

Just a couple of things to watch out for at Aquis silva beach
- Not all cocktails are included in the all inclusive so quickly check before you order but the bar staff will let you know if you order one that you have to pay for.
- After 11 all the bars remain open until 1am but your all inclusive stops at 11pm. so get your drinks in before 11.
- If you travel on a night flight and want to keep you room until later despite what ANY travel agent tells you, you wil be made to pay an extra charge (to check out 12 hours late 105 euro charge) however your all inclusive remains active until 11pm onb the day you check out so if you are not too bothered about sleeping dont worry about this as the do provide a courteous room for people departing late.
- Public toilets due to you not being able to put toilet tissue down the loo can become a little messy (no fault of the hotels just disgusting guests treating the place as a pig sty) so you may find it best to go back to your room

Overall, we absolutely loved this hotel and was easily the nicest we've staying in, and the adult only aspect of the hotel was the icing on the cake, anybody looking to stay in Hersonissos should defiantly try this complex, its fantastic.
