“Nice experience in Toshali Sands”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Spending vacations in Puri and stay at Toshali Sands has been a really nice experience for me and my family. The 4 stars facilities offered by the resort took care of full comfort of us. The services provided by the pleasant staff were totally satisfactory. The atmosphere around the hotel is very peaceful and beautiful. Food from its dining was delicious and accommodation comfortable. I will recommend this resort to Puri visitors.

We are a family of three including a 4 year old . Just back from our first trip to Orissa. We had booked into Toshali Sands a month prior. As we reached the day of our journey we were a bit worried looking at the bad reviews we read. The booking process was very smooth and fast. We called for a pick up from the station as the train was late. The response was prompt and the driver was waiting for us as we arrived. Taken to the resort we were checked in immediately . The room was small but comfortable. We had many meals at the restaraunt and except for one A la carte order the food was very tasty. The service at the restaraunt was very friendly and quite prompt . We enjoyed the bengali food for the Bengali food festival that was on at the time of our visit. The buffets were also very good. A good spread . A special mention about the paneer dishes. The twice a day complimentary drops into the city are certainly useful as the resort is a bit away for the main city.
The grounds are beautifully green and vast. Lovely to see birds hopping around. We visited toshali's beach . Super. Reassuring to have a lifeguard there all the time. House keeping was prompt and fixed any problems quite fast. Travel desk helped us with our visits to different places. The front desk was very receptive. They have a extensive childrens play area.
To look at drawbacks... Toshali hosts conferences and get togethers that can get noisy. We were not thrilled to have our room right next to one such get together. We asked for a change of room they shifted us out to the back of the resort Initially we were wondering why we were given the last rooms but turned out to be good. The room was a bit older but clean and we did not have any problems with water . In addition being a bit secluded gave us a really quiet time watching the morning birds .
The resort is not on the beach so you need to plan your beach outings.
Altogether a very good experience.
As another reviewer pointed out yes you need to give good tips. But I cannot see why not. When we pay Rs 1000 a meal is it not fair too off a good tip to people to whom it makes a difference?
As travelers, as much as we are demanding should we not also be responsible. The travelers who use the facilities of the private beach etc do not think twice about growing their trash on the beach. The lifeguard was clearing up quite a bit of rash the ubiquitous chips packets, cigarette packets! Diapers!!All definitely what the Toshalis guests left behind! We as Indians become bigger travelers but still think our country is our trash can!

Room Tip: Ask for a room far away from the noise if big parties , conferences are going to be hosted

we Yvette & Edgar de souga(RCI members) found Toshalisands Resort Exceptional in many ways. The grounds, gardens, plants and lightning are superb.
The front office staff Kadir,Ashok,Shantanu, Bipin, Maheswar and all the others are very hospitable, courteous and very friendly and madec us very welcome, we arrived at 10am and were checked in immediately .

The Guest Relations Exe Monalisa is exceptionally good at her job. she has a very pleasant manner and is very helpful and made us feel at home away from home.
Mr joy adhikari gave us time away from his very busy schedule , we had a long chat and he has allowed us to checkout late as our flight is at 20hrs.
Mr Ashwini is responsible for the overall improvement and guidance of the staff and had long chat with him, it was pleasure for us really. Everybody of Toshali was very nice and gave us fantastic service to us.
GOD BLESS TO ALL TOSHALIAN

Room Tip: rooms are so beautiful, spacious and well maintained.

We didn't have a great time there. Period.

Good Experiences:
1. Away from Puri City (7 kms). Peaceful.
2. Great swimming pool (deepest at 61/2 feet, you don't normally find that in a resort pool). Very well maintained. Should take a dip.
3. Very courteous and obliging staff, great service.
4. They have leased a beach from the forest department, which is about 2 Kms from the hotel. They arrange a trip there with a life guard in their own vehicle. The ride will be through the jungle and is quite exciting. And since it is private beach, you can really have a great time at the beach. Beware of crabs though, there are like a zillion of them there. Even though the beach opens after 6 AM, when we requested for a earlier trip, since we wanted to see the sunrise, they promptly obliged. Oh Boy! Was it the most spectacular scene ever!
5. They had upgraded me to a cottage. Supposed to be more private, but a little smaller than deluxe rooms. They were quite cosy.

Bad Ones:
1. Away from the city ( you need your own transport)
2. Toilets were not very clean. In spite of getting it cleaned again, the stench was quite unbearable.
3. The A/C need maintenance. The one in my room didn't have any temperature control, used to make a lot of noise, kept blinking that the filter needs to be replaced and used to take eons to cool. Complained, but no solution could be found till the time we were there.
4. Toilet flush wasn't working and washing sink was clogged. Again, the fix wasn't satisfactory.
5. The climate in Odisha makes you sweat a lot. Don't expect to wash all that off with a refreshing shower in the room. The water doesn't wash away the soap, and the stream of shower was absolutely powerless. I feel the plumbing of the whole place needs to be rechecked.
6. Food was very very average.
7. Not many other activities at the resort.
8. Claims to be a 4-star resort (with comparable price) but leaves a lot be desired even to call itself a 3-star hotel.

Room Tip: Don't fall for the "upgrade" nonsense. Bargain for a lower price at the deluxe room it...

We had a bad time...we were there on 4th through 6th. Property is big but with no amenities, horrible food, extremely poor service. The linen and towels in the room was in bad shape, water from bore well was provided and that too without any filtration. We stayed for 2 nights, with breakfast running short on day two.

Shuttle provided was non AC and that too in such hot weather. Would not recommend a stay here.

There are cheaper and much better options around.....please look for alternates
