AC rooms are small and have cheap furniture, cheap bedsheets, blankets and grey towels. No table to open your suitcases. Cheap plastic chairs to sit. One electric socket to run TV only. No sockets to charge your mobiles or laptops (even railway platforms and trains have these now a days). No bed switches to switch off lights.
Bathrooms are in equally poor shape. Accessories are old and cheap. broken taps. No ablution jet/spout in western toilet seat. No stool (Chowkie) to sit in the bathroom.
They charge Rs. 500/- extra for so called AC Suite which has the same standard except an additional small cabin like room with a two seater cheap sofa.
Staff at reception was uncourteous and claimed that they did not require any recommendations from the clients for this hotel to others.

Puri Hotel once famous for specially Bengali food is no more. I had stayed number of times in this Hotel for the last 15 years..This time I found rooms are in pathetic condition.Puri Hotel once famous for food is now, not upto any standard quality. There is heardly any maintainence of rooms. In other words you will find in the room, broken furnitures and fixtures.Pathetic rooms in terms of size and cleanliness. Walls and bathrooms. Room Service is worst.Only advantage is that ,you can get panoramic view of sea, by sitting in Balcony. The front or Reception office are not at all cooperative. But among all the Hotels in sea beach , the rates are comparatively cheap.

i was there in puri for about 5 days trip. It was a very bad experience in this hotel. bad service will be provided to you and when you ask for something to the manager, then he says he can not give it to you. Very bad conducting person. Rooms are not good. But they charged about 1000 per day. At last you will get no service and you will have to pay the money for no service.

First, a note of caution: this hotel is not normally available to foreigners - only Indians. However, I was travelling with a group of Bengali friends and they bent the rules. (This isn't exactly racism, but for economic reasons half the town is designated for foreign tourists, and half for locals.)

The rooms were spotlessly clean, but rather lacking in facilities. No hot water, no toiletries, no satellite TV - just local. No top sheet - only a thin polyester blanket. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but there are plenty of places to eat within a short walking distance. The bathroom is a "wet room" type, and the porcelain is rather stained and tired looking.

The hotel claims to be the closest in town to the sea, which is credible. The view of the waves crashing on the beach was great.

The hotel is rather noisy, with noise from the street until quite late at night.

Note that check-in/out is at 7 a.m.. If you're travelling back to Calcutta by one of the overnight trains you'll probably want to book an extra night.

Overall, the hotel is fine for its type. However, I believe it to be rather expensive at about $40 per night (but that's at peak season over new year). (I wasn't paying, so I can't be 100% certain about the prices.)

Room Tip: Go for a room at the front of the hotel facing the sea. These are larger and nicer than some of the...

In Puri, you are bound to have lots of choices while choosing a hotel, but if you are not sure which one is good, its better to stick in Puri Hotel. Nicely located and a delight for the Bengali's of the good food in the resturant. Room service is good, but it is not available 24 hours, which they make clear in the beginning - after lunch hours till 5 PM, and post 11 PM, you will not get any service, which is the only -ve thing in found in this hotel.
Moreover its no point in taking non-ac rooms as it is in the backside. However the room rates are Ok, which makes it an ideal place to stay with good food.

Room Tip: do not go for a/c rooms, as they are not sea-facing...if you are in a big group, take the suite in t...

I booked a "suite" thru e-mail. The "manager" did not bother to respond on time in sending booking confirmation. However, he did so on reminders. What surprised me most is that in the current days of electronic mail transfer, the manager "refused" to provide bank details and wanted booking amount by draft only. They also do not accept payments by creidt card. This raises serious doubt about their integrity about "clean business" and points to novel way to evade tax, while they are collecting the same from customers.
Anyway, we were shocked to see the "SUITE"on arrival on 26th Nov. It is a small ordinary room with a LCD TV and a noisy small AC. The bath room was horribly dirty with all sorts of funny water connection. You put on the geyser and hot water flows from all taps, though the hotel claims that no hot water connection in the shower(to prevent children from accidental burn from hot shower!!!) . There is no way one can mix cold water with hot flow. Lilens are not changed daily. Bath room is not cleaned unless told. Towels are torn and dirty.
Currently the hotel appears to run on ancestors' "reputation" only. The current directors simply want to continue cashing on the reputation and live a lavish life. They are scared to interact with or meet customers but leave the whole operation to few incompetent persons at the reception. Any hotel with a mind to serve a customer right would not shy away from computerized booking etc and accept credit card payments that many of the newer hotels are offering.
Though it is located at the best place(fotunately this one and Victoria Club Hotel got the opportunity of the position by hard work by their parents), I shall advice all sensible people to avoid Puri Hotel as far as possible. This should be advertised as a most ordinary and poor quality hotel by the directors in the home page. After innumerable visits to Puri, I am pained to experience such a miserable time for me and my wife.

It would not be out of place to mention that Bengali tourists(non Oriyas as well) are very ill treated by almost all vendors and shop owners, who use foul languages and jestures even to women(elderly and old) without any provocation.

Alas how is there could a "SWARGA DWAR" survive with so many of "Rakshash" moving all around !!!!

Room Tip: See then believe. Sea side rooms give a better view of the sea. Suite is a misnomer.
